- We met Kali in San Diego and enjoyed being neighbors, as we caravan'd with her and some other vanKookz around San Diego for a bit. Kali is from New York and she is traveling the country living in her Ford Focus. Getting better gas milage than every body out there!

Wow ! Just wow. The spirit this young woman has to just get on with it....this van life thing we love. She is awesome. Comfy bed. Less is more. I could go on...and I usually do ! Lol time on your hands when you live this way. We know that one. Time for just being. That's important. Taken too much stuff ? Everyone does. It's a learning process. It's not easy letting go of our 'normal' cluttered lives. Plus it's hard to know what you'll need until you've done it for a while. It's the same backpacking. I started wild camping in Europe a couple of years ago and at first I took so much it spoiled my walking. Now I'm down to under 3kg including a 300g sack. Happy travels everyone. John
yes John, I know what you mean. I don't know how many people gave us the advice of "take less." We then would narrow it down to fit in a BackPack and thought that was enough too, but like you said, after carrying around stuff you MIGHT need, that you don't actually use is a burden. We had to cut our trip short in Indonesia because we moved out of a van and into our backpacks after Australia and New Zealand. We had entirely too much stuff! Always bring less! Like she said, bring less, then cut it down even more. Thanks so much for watching. Happy Travels :)

Do you have the gap from the trunk to your rear seats that makes it not level? Are you just using the foam to keep it level so it’s more comfortable to sleep?

I’ve been in my car for the same time and I have the same car! I usually just tilt my driver seat back and I have step stool to put my feet on since I’m super short. In the colder months I’ve slept on my back seat with a cushion. But now since it’s been so long and I’m wanting to travel more to different states and sight see and hike… I do want to get a stable bed to get good sleep.but I’d like my bed to cover the entire back and make it higher up to put everything storage wise underneath except my guitar lol I don’t think that would work.

Does everyone take their seats out?
With all the junk in the car its a huge danger . Not sure how you can see out of the car. When you get a flat tire will be a chore to change tire. Got a Ford focus myself 233k miles so far zero problems. Did sleep in it a few times . Not so good for that too small. Best thing about a focus is fuel economy 40 mpg highway or so . Sure was cheap to drive when gas was only 2.00 a gallon.
Yeah the good ole days when the average American could afford to fill their tank up.
What do you do for ventilation seriously when it’s time to sleep and you shut all those doors and the engines off how can you breathe in something like that in warm weather yet alone hot

This is crap....I had a ford focus and I lived in it for 3 mts ...it was the worst time of my life and don't recommend it to anyone......

@@Vankookz now I live in a very luxury 3 bed mobile home in a really beautiful area with too many amenities to say and iv never been happier although it did come at a whopping€100K which I had saved through work and an inheritance so living in my ford focus for me was a nightmare while waiting for said mobile to arrive...
Just to be Fair, Ford Focus is not idea car to live in, hell it even couldn't provide comfort for backseat passenger

@@cachino2080 It's not the best suited to it but it can be done and this setup is very comfortable. Traveling is best when the gas prices can be put in check. And that Focus gets very good mileage
