G'day mate, bit of advice which will save you big time! When you put the straps inside the car - Be careful of that because if it rains your car interior will be SOAKED as the water will drain through the straps into your car! Best to leave the straps out mate.
I installed a rooftop tent on my sedan and it's the best decision I've ever made I can go places where others can't reach and I get the most amazing views while keeping its compact size😊
Hi mate just a bit of advice. When undoing the velcro do it from the centre towards the corners, the stitching on mine's come a bit loose on the corners because of that. Other than that it's a great bit of kit!
I’m thinking of buying one of these. I’ve ordered a 23 Dacia Stepway with the new modular bars. Great video. You’ve definitely made my mind up for me. Thanks.
Looking to put one of these if not a smaller one on a 2004 subaru* outback sedan, they seem really neat and offer you guaranteed solid ground to sleep on when you otherwise can't trust rough terrain, as well as requiring a smaller area to set up camp. Hopefully it'll make a nice addition to my dream compact roadtripping setup
@xiolage yeah my uncle is the road tripping type and put me onto this sort of setup, found your video useful on how the proportions of these tents are to smaller cars. Safe to say it's a need
Hi have you had any trouble with the roof bars, I got a tent for my focus only to read that they are not suitable for the plain roof like you have, I'm thinking just do it anyway but if you say yours fell off I maybe won't 😂
Looks great mate! I have a mk3 focus st too and I’m also looking at getting one of these tent boxes! So this video was really helpful in seeing what it would be like on it. Do you have an genuine Ford roof rack do I see there? There’s so many roof racks I’m a bit unsure on which one I need to get 😅
Thanks Mark, yes so this is sat on a genuine Ford roof rack. I felt like the OEM would know best how to hold this much weight and to be fair it wasn’t too expensive either! 😁
@@xiolage ok thanks for that, did you just go and get direct from a Ford dealer or elsewhere? I know I’ve seen them on eBay saying genuine Ford ones, they’re around £160-180? Have you had chance to use the tent yet or are you doing soon otherwise and will you be doing a video of it?
I got them from a Ford dealer selling on eBay, probably the same post you’ve seen. I’ve used the tent and the video is coming out tomorrow. Took everything off and no damage/dents. Happy days. 😁
@@xiolage Just watched your camping trip video, was a really big help with having a focus like you and seeing what the tentbox is like on it! Was there any reason you went for the black one over the orange or did you just like that one better? I thought it might feel a bit dark inside in the day but at the same time I suppose you're mainly using it at night. Also got myself a genuine roof rack second hand off ebay for £50 in great condition so pleased with that :) one quick question as it didn't come with the instructions but do you tighten up with the screwdriver that comes with it until it clicks? I felt like I did it pretty tight and was a bit scared to go anymore with it but didn't get a click. I also put the numbers of each end so 1 was passenger front and 1 drivers front then 3 pass rear and 4 drivers rear, does that sound correct too? Thanks for any help, have definitely subscribed for more content!
Some places that sell these say not to use these with your kind of roof bar fixings, the same kind i have on mine, thay hook under the door frame. What do you think about this?
Hello mate. I'm thinking of buying a rooftop tent for my focus as well. It's an 18 plate ecoboost hatchback. Do you know how suitable the roof is for having a tent & people on top? Seeing mixed things online about loading capacities so trying to get a better idea.
Depends how big is big. At the time of recording I was 17 stone with the other half being 7 stone. Held absolutely no problems. I think the max is 300kg. 😁
How's it held up over the last year - any advice? i read we need to buy a condensation mat? struggling to find a waterproof encasement cover to fit the mattress though - 140cm x 240cm
We sold ours due to getting a van but it was fantastic while we had it. We just got some humidity/condensation packs and left them in there. Just grab yourself a comfy mattress to go in there as the standard one isn’t the best!
@@xiolage re the mattress - we read that people just added toppers or did you completely replace yours? sorry to bombard, hoping to get out in it this weekend and be comfy from the start
Good vid, I’ve been looking into roof top tents. How has yours held up so far, have you had any buckling around you roof bar fixing points on the car? I checked the roof load rating on my car and the manual says 100kg max, factoring in the bar weights and a tent box lite @ 50kg and my 8 year old son I’m getting close to manufacturers roof load limit. Technically I couldn’t even sleep up there on my own?
Hi Ron, yeah no issues here as of yet all well. The max load in the handbook references to a dynamic load meaning max load when driving. The actual max load of the roof is usually around 3-4X that. TentBox says max load of 300kg plus the tent (50kg). Im definitely not light and me and the other half got up there no problems. 😁
@@xiolage Thank you for your reply. Makes perfect sense now. Anything above manufacturers load limit in terms of dynamic will affect the cars handling breaking heavy etc. When stationary load can multiply 💪🏻
Hey there, quick question about that roof rack you got, where did you get it? I see it says Ford on it, is it factory for another vehicle and it fits on the focus?
Great question. It takes 2-3 people and about 10 minutes to undo the nuts. If they can do it without being stopped or seen then I guess that’ll be how long. It’s a massive pain in the ass.
@@sailingachilles7810 Just ordered the Lite XL. I'm not too bothered about mpg. I own a Volvo V70 2.4 D5 with a 500ltr roof box attached carrying over 80Kg and was averaging 51 mpg during a 1150 mile road trip 2 weeks ago in the Highlands.

I'm thinking that the ladder being doubled as a support is a bit risky
It asks you to not use it as a support 😊
@@xiolage may be; but I cannot see how it won't buckle under weight without a support.
