I struggled with the question of what vehicle I wanted to camp in and possibly have to live in. I ultimately decided a minivan was the best option for me so I would never have trouble finding a place to park at night, better gas mileage, city driver, etc. So not too big, not too small...just right.
Van is all well and good... if you already have one! Since the Covid construction bottleneck combined with the huge growth in home deliveries driving demand for vans, you absolutely cannot get a runner for the price of that tent box... which suddenly makes the tent box the only option for the majority who can't pay the ridiculously inflated van prices.
If you look at it this way that tent box is nearly £1000 but the car it’s sat on is £6,000 so we’ll the car get a van then convert the van for £700 simples
Tent looks good but it's the van for me every day of the week. Getting up in the night for a wee could be dodgy with the rain coming down and that ladder. Thanks Shaun and nice to see you and Liam making a video together again.
A Pee bottle will sort that although make sure you direct the ol' chap correctly otherwise you end up with a damp sleeping bag and side. As I found out recently 🙂
I would prefer the van but when you take into account insurance, road tax and everyday driving the roof tent makes more sense. Not as secure as the van or can be used in as many locations I presume but its down to running cost and how many times you get out and about. I can see an argument for both.
I think the roof tent only seems like a good idea but there are far more advantages to the van setup. If you buy a nice small midsized van especially if it has removable belted seats in the rear then you wouldn't need to own a car aswell. You can't be stealthy and pop up the tent in a quiet street or carpark when you are winging it on a trip.
It depends on your use case scenario. There's plenty of places I can take my suv with a tent that a van simply wouldn't be able to get to. A tent allows you to convert your daily car into a camper. Whereas a van is much better for comfort but you need a second dedicated vehicle which you're not accounting for in the price. Between insurance, mot and tax that's another 1-2k a year not even considering maintenance costs. You also need a place to keep the van when not in use. whereas a tent can be reasonably easily stored inside the house. Ideally I would love to have both. An SUV with a tent for more remote getaways and a van for glamping
no matter where you're sleeping as long as youre with good company in the great outdoors it's time spent well as it could be. I loved this video shaun!!!!
I bought a cheap second hand trailer and put a roof tent on top. You don’t need to pack anything away if you need to use the car and the trailer is easy to store at home.
After a hard days work I’ve enjoyed again your new content . Please keep them coming I can’t imagine how much time it takes to put them together . But personally I’m enjoying them

Ive just found the channel so don't know if you have solved the problem but. The best cheap heating source is a night heater you can get good ones for under £100. Its what lorry drivers use. They hardly use any diesel and can plumb them to your tank or use the little tank you get.

Happy vannig mate ...
I've had both before I have neither now here's my not so popular opinion haha. Tentbox or any other brand is great if you want a camper but can't afford the van, insurance, tax of another vehicle. I insured my camper for the year you could insure it as you use it I suppose. Tentbox will go on almost any vehicle it does work out cheaper especially around MOT time with an old van. Both are as easy to pitch as the other tentbox took me 2 kins and the camper took 2 mins to plug electric in etc. Now I do a lot of wild camping and I can safely say a small tent from a so called Premier brand would set you back as much as a tentbox. So all things considered they are good value. Lastly its a personal opinion, I'm 32 so I am fine getting in and out of a tentbox, older folk will find it hard. One last point stealth van camping is easier than tentbox camping in a layby. In the end both went as my transit camper was too much. And the tentbox went because I would use it rarely.
Another great video, I’d definitely choose the cozy van, which is looking very homely now btw, that tent looked it might fall off the car in the night 😮
Nice to see you back filming with Liam. I think I’d go for the van, I wouldn’t be able sleep in the tent - I’d be worried in case someone opened it. As someone else mentioned, you should swap for a night
I just bought a crv 2.2 diesel and I’m working on turning that into a no build stealth camper, my initial thought is remove one of the single sides of the rear bench, then make a wooden level platform for a single air bed that I can also use for storage and still fit a bike down the side. Make shift black out window covers, jet boil and a pack of wet wipes lol job is a winner
Deffo the van for me Shaun, I love camping but am getting a bit too long in the tooth for it now. The buildings looked like fun to explore in the dark mate.
Camper van over tent box I used one hated it as you have to put the tent down everytime you want to go somewhere the tent box was comfy but inconvenient
I think the tent looks a bit wobbly, but I wouldn't want to do all the work to rebuild a van. Hmmm, I believe I will have to stay at home or take a day trip 😁 Looks lovely though, especially the morning coffee in the sun. I am not so fond of ghosts 😳👻😉
I chose a tent box because I dont have the space or budget for 2 vehicles. For me a van isn't practical full time and the tent box is ace on my little 4x4. Id love a van conversion in the future but a tent box is perfect for me right now 😁

The roof box sounds like s lot of money for something that isn't durable. I'd rather sleep in the estate car, or if there's no space left in there, build my own deck on a car roof rack, pitch a cheap tent on it, for £200? Self built campervan will always be a better experience. The only good thing about rtt is youre off the floor. Other than that, its just a tent, nothing more.
By the way, nothing about tent box is british. Apart from the lads selling their gear. Selling it as british. Bought one of their awnings, discovered the truth then.
@@LoveSundays Czech Republic mate. Fast efficient delivery, lovely peice of kit but not made in the uk which is 100% the impression your given from tent box.
Only the renovation cost is included not The cost of the van it’s self. Same goes for the cost of the car! If you include the van cost it would be £3700 but the car plus the tent would be £10,000 so the van is still cheaper
The only advantage of these tents is you are off the floor whether thats for weather or security reasons. I'd rather sleep inside the car or have a small pop up tent you can simply pitch next to the car out of the wind.

Any good quality tent for the ground will be at least $1000, so if the car top tent lasts and doesn’t leak then the price is worth it.

My van still cost less than the car he’s got the tent on though 😂
@@LoveSundays fair point
Self built campervan will always be a better experience. The only good thing about rtt is youre off the floor. Other than that, its just a tent, nothing more.
‘Rough as arseholes’ - he’s gotta be a Brummie. 😂😂
He is 😂
@@LoveSundays I’m new to your channel and now I know you are Brummie-friendly, I’ve subscribed 😂. Take care and keep safe.
Thanks for watching Jayney. I’m friendly to all walks of life 😂
@@LoveSundays I get that vibe from your content. Off to binge watch a few. 😀
Way too creepy for me in that old abandoned building.
By the way, nothing about tent box is british. Apart from the lads selling their gear. Selling it as british. Bought one of their awnings, discovered the truth then.
That’s good to know Alan. Which country are the made in?
@@LoveSundays Czech Republic mate. Fast efficient delivery, lovely peice of kit but not made in the uk which is 100% the impression your given from tent box.
Is the price of your van all in? Cost of the van and doing it up? How did you find a van that cheap
Only the renovation cost is included not The cost of the van it’s self. Same goes for the cost of the car! If you include the van cost it would be £3700 but the car plus the tent would be £10,000 so the van is still cheaper
@@LoveSundays amazing price on the van too! I need to look around more aha
well the van is more expensive and the insurance and all? i mean i wish a van can be jsut like a normal vehicle should be easy!!
Which airfield is that?
How could you put up with them sheep
i agree the van wins esp when there are ghosts about lol
Loads of ghosts about that night John
Those tents look easy to set up, but so expensive.
Agreed
The only advantage of these tents is you are off the floor whether thats for weather or security reasons.
I'd rather sleep inside the car or have a small pop up tent you can simply pitch next to the car out of the wind.
