Wukong is not slept on fam. China drops an animated movie for Bro like every other year. He has live action adaptations too. Not to mention inspiring Goku(Japanese) and Mori Jin(South Korean). He has a whole lego Cartoon where he'a a mentor, which was made to introduce legos into china. DC comics made him an official Superhero like a year or 2 ago too Wukong is pretty much the BIGGEST cultural icon on the planet and the MOST Popular Trickster character in fiction. Nobody in their right mind sleeps on that monkey😂

Alot of the blockbuster movies and top Manhwas back in 2015 and before are from the Mythology too. I didn't know about the Lego shit tho, that's news for me. When I said slept on as in the Western side of things. Only recent years has more people associated Goku with Wukong, and the many arts, games inspired by Wukong. A large plethora of people still don't know who the fuck Wukong is or his lore. Chinese mythology in general, to me, is still slept on in its potential. I don't know how there hasn't been more large scale games based off of it. Off the top of my head I can only think of Asura. I'm surprised there isn't a GOW level franchise off Chinese mythology yet. This game is about to give Wukong and the Chinese culture even more exposure.

A lot of this is early footage, developers took a survey from everyone who played the most recent demo and supposedly bosses are going to be more active and quick with their movements. Also you're very right about it being like a main character game, in the story Wukong is basically an unstoppable immortal force and only ever really gets beat by people using magic hacks.

It's action combat. Souls games didn't invent action combat, and action combat doesn't make it a Souls-like. It's a story ARPG like GoW, Jedi: Fallen Order, or FF16. The spells and abilities have cooldowns, you have a skill tree with an experience bar that gives you skill points for that skill tree, you don't drop your experience and have to go pick it up, there are gear rarities and the gear has abilities on them, and you have a single weapon with RPG elements to upgrade it.

Only recent years has more people associated Goku with Wukong, and the many arts, games inspired by Wukong. A large plethora of people still don't know who the fuck Wukong is or his lore. Chinese mythology in general, to me, is still slept on in its potential. I don't know how there hasn't been more large scale games based off of it.
Off the top of my head I can only think of Asura.

It's action combat. Souls games didn't invent action combat, and action combat doesn't make it a Souls-like. It's a story ARPG like GoW, Jedi: Fallen Order, or FF16. The spells and abilities have cooldowns, you have a skill tree with an experience bar that gives you skill points for that skill tree, you don't drop your experience and have to go pick it up, there are gear rarities and the gear has abilities on them, and you have a single weapon with RPG elements to upgrade it.

And Goku is a salute to Wukong (Their name in Kanji/Hanji is literally the same).
