Didn't he even gone as far as to have 6 more immortality on top of his pre existing immortality? Wukong in myth is legit so overpowered for a non-omniponent character. I think there's a reason why characters inspired by him tend to be on the OP side. Take Son Goku from Dragon Ball for example.

The golden hoop, which is given to Tangseng(Tang Monk) by Buddha, to subdue Wukong to protect him during the journey. It has a spell and when Tangseng chant it, will get tighten and make Wukong headache. According to the novel, after Wukong finished the journey, Buddha already removed the golden hoop and give Wukong freedom. But here in the opening intro, Wukong is definitely cheated by Buddha.
Unfortunately the english dub doesn't really make alot of sense if compared to the chinese dub in which which he actually talks about how he has done his duty by protecting tripitaka on his journey and only wanted a life of freedom to live in Huaguo mountain away from the heavenly court afterwards, yet the heavenly court came after him with their army and killed his compatriots. also side note relevant to the story is that he actually fought everyone in the heavenly court before the journey and won and was unparalleled until buddha himself almighty smack him into the base of the mountain. haha
我很慶幸身為中國人可以直接聽到原本的配音。還有中文發音的模型口型,太感動了。 I'm glad that as a Chinese I can hear the original dubbing directly. There are also model mouth shapes for Chinese pronunciation, which is so touching.
The buddha didn't smack him, since he knew he wouldn't be able to catch wukong even if he fought with him. (Wukong is known to be very sly and would run if he find himself in a disadvantage) He made a bet with Wukong, if wukong won, he will take over the jade emperor seat, if he lost, he will stop his disruptive actions. While he was distracted, he was trapped underneath the mountain and sealed to prevent him from shapeshift and running away

It is not surprising, but yet still refreshing and exhilarating to see a "realistic" depiction. There are so many such examples in the game play videos.

You can see some of the characters or gods or deities in Chinese temples. The book "journey to the west" put some stories behind them, kind of like Marvell created a story around Thor, or Percy Jackson around Greek mythology. Since the book has been around for 400 years, some part of it got merged into the mythology. The monkey king never became any part of Chinese religion, so it is solely viewed as a book character.

"Foreigners" is a big word, friend. Use it parsimoniously. You cannot place some people as the head of a group yourself. I can guarantee you there are outsiders who know chinese history more than chinese people.
Most people in China and Japan probably don’t know much about Greek, Germanic, or Celtic mythology of Europe. The culture and people you belong too often influence your knowledge about different parts of the world.
"Journey to the West" is one of China's four great classics. It is a mythological masterpiece with a history of hundreds of years. This novel has influenced the entire Asia. According to the novel, after Wukong finished the journey, Buddha already removed the golden hoop and give Wukong freedom. But here in the opening intro, Wukong is definitely cheated by Buddha.
Unfortunately the english dub doesn't really make alot of sense if compared to the chinese dub in which which he actually talks about how he has done his duty by protecting tripitaka on his journey and only wanted a life of freedom to live in Huaguo mountain away from the heavenly court afterwards, yet the heavenly court came after him with their army and killed his compatriots. also side note relevant to the story is that he actually fought everyone in the heavenly court before the journey and won and was unparalleled until buddha himself almighty smack him into the base of the mountain. haha

The buddha didn't smack him, since he knew he wouldn't be able to catch wukong even if he fought with him. As a Chinese who read, listened and watched so many interpretations of some of the scenes, the feelings of watching the "real" speed of "flipping through cloud and riding the fog" (腾云驾雾) is quite different from someone who never imagined such movements. It is not surprising, but yet still refreshing and exhilarating to see a "realistic" depiction. There are so many such examples in the game play videos.

One more thing, the monkey can create a lot of avatars by just pull some body hairs and blow them. The avatars can fight as the distraction and hide the real monkey to give the fatal blow. This ability is useful when fighting large size enemies.
It will be much more fun to play the game if knowing the original story. All the other characters have their own stories and skills.

It is a blessing to have the Chinese coming into AAA games. Chinese drama... Holy shit it is fire! Or what about Ever Night and Legend of Chusen?

You can see some of the characters or gods or deities in Chinese temples. The book "journey to the west" put some stories behind them, kind of like Marvell created a story around Thor, or Percy Jackson around Greek mythology. Since the book has been around for 400 years, some part of it got merged into the mythology. The monkey king never became any part of Chinese religion, so it is solely viewed as a book character.
