Sony's greatest effort is the original PlayStation imo. My favorite Sony console.
I will never forget chilling in Best Buy with my buddy and seeing the Playstation for the first time in it's display case showing off Battle Arena Toshinden.
At the time I was a big Sega fanboy and scoffed at Battle Arena Toshinden compared to Virtua Fighter 2. I still think it's a better game, but I remember going to a birthday party, and my friend got a Playstation. After playing Wipeout, Loaded, Tekken, Toshinden and few other titles we were converts. It wasn't that Ridge Racer, Toshinden, etc were leap years better than Panzer Dragoon, Daytona, etc it's the fact that they were on par with them, and Sony was cranking out a few new games each week vs Sega which was lucky to put out 3 games a month.. if that.
I still have my Saturn, (it might even still work.. ) but sadly my original PlayStation died from over use. It sucks to have a console die on you, but when a console dies from over use - it's a sign it was well used.

I will never forget going to a friend's house and being amazed by how real Resident Evil looked. Also, I wasn't used to seeing DMV's in games, so the intro vid in RE blew me away!

Nothing change in Nintendo's philosophy. Nintendo will still be Nintendo. They rather take care of their IPs than take a gamble on many new ambitious IPs at once like Sega did back in the past.

Last week I bought a PS One because my brother's original PlayStation stopped working. I used to play my brother's PlayStation a long time ago till I got a Nintendo 64 which I still have. I played the NES but when I first played the PlayStation, it was crazy. Now that I have a PS One I've gone back to playing Twisted Metal 2 and Spyro :)

Playstation changed the entire world just like some people commented on here. My favorite console (all of them, psp, ps2, etc). I have owned all of them and many games, even though later on I ended copying a bunch of the games I once owned at first and sold later cause of lack of needed money haha.
I think that in the end it was great the betrayal and all that stuff happened for sony to stand alone and come up with this. I can't imagine how things would have looked today if Nintendo and Sony would have been merged to this console.

Well with two consoles selling over 100 million units a piece and their third selling 80 million I'd say they did pretty good. Oh did I forget about the newest one they just dropped three months ago that is the fastest selling video game console of all time. Selling faster than the original Wii.

I grew up with SEGA and Nintendo but the arrival of the Playstation really sparked a new flame inside of me when it got to gaming. Playstation really blew me away with titles like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, C&C, Tomb Raider, Syphoon Filter, MGS, Resident Evil, Rayman, Oddworld, Loaded just to mention a few.
Crash Bandicoot was the 1st game i remember playing for the original play station

I found interesting that PlayStation didn’t have any gaming studios of their own when they started but nowadays (2018) they own arguably the best ones out there, I think they’ve always been aware that you need to be fair and thankful to your game developers and they will keep producing exclusive hits.

I personally think the Xbox as a brand will just end up as a client on PC. I mean the XboneX might be great hardware, but there's nothing to play on it, and the average gamer doesn't have a 4k TV. They might prove us all wrong and machine gun a load of awesome exclusives at us in the next two years, but with what's happened to Halo etc.... not really optimistic.
PowerfulTimmu Nintendo did that first, with the nes, though that console is what saved gaming there is no denying that Nintendo went too far. They sued the game genie and lost, only allowed development to make 5 games per year and signed developers into jail cells by forcing them to only make games for them. And SEGA isn't dead. At least one new Sonic game is supposed to be coming out (as far as I know). Also, the first PlayStation outsold the Sega Saturn due to the lower price, according to Wikipedia.
It certainly looked that way not too long ago. That may not be the case at the moment, but other than Sony's Playstation division, they're not doing so hot as a mega corp.

As much as I like Nintendo and love their games, I have to say this was great for us in general. Imagine if sony stayed with Nintendo and sega was of course dead, Nintendo would be a powerhouse who can control the market. Competition is needed for lower prices and better games.
Well Sega wouldn't have died if Sony stayed with Nintendo. The reason PlayStation became a success was because they targeted an older demographic which is something Nintendo never had the balls to do. Most older gamers would've stuck with Sega or went the PC route but I doubt Nintendo would've had complete control of the market like they did in the 80s

In the aftermath of World War 2, a bandicoot named Crash helped the people of Japan rebuild from the ashes.
As Crash gains more and more ground in the stacked crate and small crevice world, the tomb raiding industry grows by leaps and bounds, and by the mid-1990's, the war for pictures of Lara Croft is red hot.
The idea of working on another "Sonic's Ass Game" is nothing new to Crash. But now, things are different. Hand-in-hand, Crash, and the people of the Mushroom Kingdom, team up to bring Sonic to his knees, and Knuckles to his...knuckles. But Crash is about to face a bitter betrayal that will change the course of platforming history.
The Mushroom King's insecurities lead to a dramatic climax in 1991, when he closes all pipes leading to Naughty Dogistan. Now, more driven than ever, Crash sets out to make a platformer unlike any other. At first, Crash plans to release one that has pipes and power blocks AND springs, checkpoints, and loops. In 1992, two-hundred units of this "Segtendo"(or as it was originally named, "The Nintega Chronicles") are manufactured, but are quickly scrapped into twisted metal.
Crash decides to wait for the next wave of electoons to enter the battle arena toshinden, and intends to capitalize on metal gear technology. Crash knows that the road ahead won't be easy, but he has an ace up sleeve that will dazzle the entire platforming industry. Detailed and smoothly-rendered area maps of Lara Croft's naked breasts.
After watching the failure of platformers like Astal very closely, Crash realizes that titmap power alone isn't enough to come out on top in the world of stacked crates and small crevices. Crash does everything he can to round up third-party developers to...well, develop the nude pics, and is able to sign 250 in Japan alone. He also spends 48 million Wumpa Fruit to purchase the Lemmings, thus ending their colony wars, and changes their name to Team Buddies. The next step is ensuring a successful launch in the US and Europe.
To pull this off, Crash spares no expense. With this new mindset, Crash sets out to conquer the United States. After a nationwide tecmo super bowl marketing blitz unlike any other, Crash launches what he calls the "Tenchu Twisted Metal Gear Time Crisis Tobal Titmap Tekken Tomb" in the United States on September 9th, 1995.
Shortened to "Playstation", it picks up more and more sales, thanks to powerful hardware, and a collection of exclusive dames with other tits. Crash's Playstation proves to be a juggernaut that plows through all common bitch shit. The success of the Playstation goes beyond even Crash's sexpectations. Today Crash remains number one, and is still going strong. Like his orange penis in the mouths of virtua hookers."

Always been proud to have Sony gaming devices ever since I was a child.
I have almost all of them next generation magazines on the video thumbnail stored. They were the highlight of my childhood reading lol. The quality of the thick smooth cover, it felt so premium. Every month just waiting to see what new stuff might be coming soon.
Kids these days have no idea what we went through. The wait.... but It was cool just getting a slow drip of improvements.
Got our minds blown multiple times through time.
I always struggle to understand how my kid is happy playing games with crappy graphics. But I guess kids these days have never been starving for something new, they started to exist with so much choice, its now about being social and satisfying their reward system with a more natural pathway. What we went through, the slow drip really sorted the people who had a passion for tech, there were long stretches of boredom and frustration, but I think it made me the curious person I am.
I even tried to force my kid to start with 8bit and work her way up through the generations... but growing up with the iPad, there was just no interest. I don't blame her. I played those games, and they sucked! I just sat there as a kid like, when is it going to get better.
I feel so nostalgic about the games which are shown throughout the documentary. Nintendo and Sony, keep it up the good work !

PlayStation is a globally powerful brand for a reason, its in the top 5 or 8 most popular and recognized brands in the world iirc.
PlayStation is the only console brand that is not a Nintendo product to make it to a 5th console, Sega Dreamcast was their 4th, Atari only made 4, but the PlayStation is still going strong with the recent release of the PlayStation 5.
I'm getting my PS4 for Christmas this year to go with my Xbox One and my Wii U. Then I'll have all 3 8th gen consoles.
I respect all companies for each of their consoles.

I was a Nintendo kid in the 80's and 90's. When the Playstation came out I confused it with the 3DO. I remember thinking, this is the company that made trash games like Hook and Hudson Hawk. I told a friend it would never survive. Oh how wrong I was. I own every Sony console 1-5, PSP & Vita. Playstation is my primary console while Nintendo is my secondary console. I've never felt the need to buy a solitary X-box.
Side Note: 2020 does not have robot baseball teams and was absolutely horrible.
