This video helped me a ton. I've watched several other videos to help me optimize my settings, since I'm streaming from a crappy laptop. I had no idea my internet was ALSO an issue. Such easy little fixes, and although I'm not streaming at the same quality as those who stream on better computers, lag was not an issue, and for ONCE, Streamlabs wasn't yelling at me for dropped frames/lag/etc. I'm no longer chomping at the bit to buy things I can't afford. For now, this is enough. Thanks!

Possible topic or question about something I've been trying to figure out. What's the best way to go about networking with people and/or getting your name out there (without being a douce haha)? I'm already doing the grind, playing games I want and such, and got the stream going decently well imo. I'm honestly not doing it to try and make a career of it, just trying to have fun and meet new people and communities, but it's hard to do some things without viewers. Example, Dead Cells stream integration. Tons of fun, but useless without people.
I found my livestream to lag for the first time since I started so I looked for solutions and after searching numerous videos yours is by far the daddy. One video was close with the alerts etc but you explained the layering and rendering which even though I’m not overly tech savvie I totally understood. Thank you sooo much for this and it’s now time to put it into practice. Fingers crossed 🤞. Great video as usual.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I’m not dropping frames but the stream isn’t as smooth as it should be
Maybe check your framerates in your Video tab to see what FPS you're using in recording or streaming
It entirely depends on what you're doing as well, and can narrow down to hardware. I have two capture cards. One is specifically for retro consoles and the other is for HDMI. The one I use for retro consoles has HDMI, and even DVI and VGA inputs, but for some reason the HDMI capture drops frames (Not severely, just enough for those sensitive to microstutters like myself). My Elgato HD60S is smoother for HDMI purposes. So I use the Elgato for HDMI consoles like the WiiU and Switch, and the Startech USB3HDCAP with modded drivers I use for native 240p input over component for my retro consoles for near emulator quality from real hardware. Originally I was just using the USB3HDCAP, and while microstutters won't matter for most people, it was driving me up the wall and I'm glad I hadn't gotten rid of the Elgato that was supposed to be replaced.

Hey man - Just wanted to give a huge thanks to you for all of the videos and advice! I've been watching all of your stuff since I got into streaming and it's helped so much. This video was a huge one for me though, because recently I've had framerates dropping rapidly during live streams. I was literally in the process of adding upgrades to my list on Amazon to fix it before I thought about checking RUclips for advice. I'm still going to upgrade my computer, because hell yes, but thank you for helping me solve the issue sooner!

First off, amazing video as always. Something I've experienced which has caused myself to have lag issues is a simple tick box on the Advanced settings on the Output tab. It is called "Enforce streaming service encoder settings" if you're still experiencing issues, try un-ticking that box. It may help. Also, for people running with the NVENC H.264 Encoder (Graphic Card) on the Advanced tab there is also a tick box called "Use Two-Pass Encoding", un-tick that box as well. These are just two other tips for peeps, however if you follow what Harris is saying, i'm sure this will eliminate most issues.

@@Konixity thanks. I need to keep my laptop on charge as it drains my battery to 10% after 25 mins. however when I have it on charge there is a screeching noise.
my cpu when in OBS is says 23% and my activity monitor cpu says 21% ( and is red)

Also, you may have covered it in another video, but in case you didnt , you can enable performance mode on streamlabs or obs, it disables the preview so it does not display twice.
U forgot to talk about webcam, it uses a lot of cpu, so i use 2 webcam sources set up differently. For the full screen web i go for it's full resolution, and for the gaming scene i've set up a webcam source to 320 cuz it's a small image anyway.

Alpha gaming gives you the answer to fix it but with reasons too, that’s why I love his channel, he makes you understand the problem and why
Definitely a 2 PC setup is a great option. So much so that the biggest video on my channel is about a 2 PC setup that you can do for free (utilizing OBS NDI), so long as you have a decent second PC already (and you don't need as much as you think). I love doing content on stream optimization, this was a great watch. Thanks.

When you live in an area that still uses old copper lines from the 50s and 60s, there is no hope for better internet unless you can find some really good wireless or satelite.
BEFORE ANYTHING: If your problem is internet, go wired. The problem can be the crappy Wi-Fi chip within your pc.

Manually setting the Core Affinity can improve the quality greatly aswell while maintaining a high encoder preset ✌
I just want to say thank you i know this is your older content but i rewatched this over and over again trying to prep i never did a full stream that i wanted to i just been testing and playing with others that stream or did quick test streams some how i have 10 followers somehow and i havn't even streamed more than 4 hours now i am trying to get it to look right and sound right i have a vision and want to hit that before i even let people see my face
