How very refreshing to listen to an interview that scratches more than just the surface. Very interesting to get more insight into the mind of Tuomas Holopainen, probably the greatest musical mind of his time.
And.. i think one can also hear the mutual understanding and respect of those two, and the real joy of discussing and sharing things. So nothing like an official rutinely done interview but a conversation of two like minded lovely people. ♥️
One of the greatest interviews I've seen with Tuomas, I would like to stress on the fact that he always uses the term "bizarre situation" rather than the term used all over the world, I believe he realizes we are in a spiritual would that tries to disconnect us from our origins, hence the last two albums. As a musician and a composer he is wise to stay away from politics but you can feel his frustration. He talks about empathy, without it we are not real humans.
This man is a genius of our time so humble so visionary & optimistic. I’d love to sit and have a meal with him. Thankyou for your comprehensive detailed respectful interview. I envy you just for being in my idols presence
Thank you Peter! There are not too many interviews with Tuomas. I learned a few things I did not know before. It was interesting to hear more details about the mosquito that was named after Tuomas, Sciophila Holopaineni, that it was found in Savukoski in Finnish Lapland. I have some relatives who live in Savukoski. It is quite small place, Savukoski literally Smoke Rapids. Fossile of a previously unknown crab species was found and named after Nightwish, Tanidromites Nightwishorum. A beetle was named after Floor, Tmesisternus Floorjansenei. Another thing was named after Floor, in Finnish it's Käärmetähti, literally Snakestar, I do not even remember what it is, but the Latin name is Ophiomitrella Floorae. Also I did not know the connection between Sir David Attenboroug and the World Land Trust. Alan Wake is a videogame by the Finnish Remedy Entertainment. Their newer games are more succesful, based on the prize of the shares of Remedy. IPO prize a few years ago was 5.65, now well over 40 euros. Greetings from Helsinki Finland!
@@peterorullian I didn't know you worked on Alan Wake, then you have one more connection to Nightwish as Stobe Harju who as director for Imaginaerum and Noise music video worked with Remedy on Alan Wake too. Great interview.
Pretty fair decision to not play Endlessness live. It's Marko's song. Lets leave it as it is as a beautiful tribute to a wonderful person and artist. Marko will be dearly missed in the band.
The final chapter of all the works of nature with Carl Sagan’s pale blue dot is one of the most optimistic and empowering pieces I’ve ever heard if I ever go to space that’s what I’ll be listening to as The rocket that takes me launches
I love how humble Tuomas is. I find him very fascinating on his thoughts with the music they create. I send him lots of positive vibes for him to continue on his journey with the band. I can't wait to see their virtual concert in May.
Tuomas has always (12:24) said that he does not make this for money, fame or to please anybody. He does this for his need of expression and storytelling and is happy IF people like it and even pay a penny. He also says that Nightwish is not actually a band (nor army) but a state of mind.
What a great interview! Thank you so much for that. So lovely to see Tuomas answer all those excelent questions. Listen to him talking about Endlessness and Marko was heartbreaking, though.
What an awesome surprise! It was a great interview, I felt like we were checking with Tuomas "how's the heart, since we really care for him, especially now when he has to manage such a difficult period. Thank you! 🤘😎
Hallo Dear Tuomas, Love from te Netherlands🇳🇱🌷🇳🇱 love you❤ You are a HERO 💙 A GREAT SONGWRITER, MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST AND PRODUCER. WE MISS YOU, STAY HEALTHY AND SAFE PLEASE🙏🙏🙋🏼♀️😘
Thank you, for this really good interview. It was so good to hear about deep things and themes. Tuomas is a great man and musician. Greetings from wildly romantic Hungary.
Tuomas, thanks for your musical creations. I choose sometimes to listen to CD1 and CD2 ALTERNATING. So: Music, Vista, Noise, The Blue, Shoemaker, The Green. Etc. Works very well also for me. Iove Aurorae and Quiet as the snow. You feel the nature through these songs so strongly. You live through the sunrise and you walk in a quiet landscape in the snow, you experience it when you close your eyes. Love from The Netherlands
Mozart of the 20th century, very good interview...no doubt! Love everyone, all members of the band, Marko will be missed so bad. Can't wait to hear live performance from the new album...Nightwish forever 🤘
Thank you for this interview. It was great to listen to Tuomas talking about the album and a few other things that are important to him. I did expect that they would not play "endlessness" and I think it is the right thing to do. Thanks again both of you, stay safe 🤘😁🤘
Fantastic interview. Back in the day I would occasionally read interviews in Melody maker, Sounds, Disc and NME etc which would inspire me. But to actually see an interview of this magnitude takes me to another level completely. Thank you.
What a lovely interview. Tuomas is such a philosopher. And a heartbraking thing to learn that Marko is not going to sing Endlessness live, not even ones. Secretly wishing he’ll changes his mind about that and remembers his fans who love his voice in that masterpiece. 🤘🏼❤️
All the works of Nature is a beautiful hommage to mother earth and gorgeous in music and video❣️ It’s so good that Tuomas follows his gut feeling in his choices and with creating music, this makes it so pure and beautiful. I think Tuomas should do the next Bond movie score with Floor! Hope he will come up with a game anytime.
I have such a great respect for Tuomas and his creations, that speak to me on a very personal level. He is a thoughtful person who cares deeply about the things that touch his mind and soul and I think we're quite similar in that regard and that's why his music makes me so emotional. He transforms his own passions into the music and when I listen to it, I get a sense of the inspiration that made him write the music. It truly fills my heart and I often have tears of joy running down my face when I listen to the music. Besides that, we share a lot of common interests like nature, sustainability, science, empathy, literature/poetry, films, scores, and even boardgames and I love the way he "shouts at the world through his music" to inspire other people like me. For example, I've heard of Dawkins and Sagan before but thanks to Tuomas I took a deeper dive into their (and Shoemaker's) works and I'm grateful for this inspiration because I study Geography (and English) and like to learn more about these scientists. And for one of my creative writing courses in English I wrote a poem inspired by "The Greatest Show on Earth". Another interest of mine is night-photography and there is nothing more peaceful than to take a nightly walk through nature and looking at the stars while listening to the Human Nature album or sitting in a train and watching the landscape pass by while listening to Tuomas' solo album and dreaming about adventures. As long as he has music and stories to tell, I will be here listening. Thank you, Tuomas :)
Great interview. Learned a lot more about Tuomas. Can’t wait for the online experience and the live show. Got ticket for both. Just became a big fan last year in covid time through RUclips reactions and because of floor janssen who is like me dutch. Thank you for this interview.
Very enjoyable and insightful interview, Toumas is a special human being. Just a thought on 'Noise' yes, it tells a story, it poses a serious question about how people take on board the images social media 'gives out' on what to do, how to look, even how to act. All though thought provoking, Tuomas is correct, it's also humourous. I just love the connection where Troy is initially sitting on a throne then later in the video it has changed from a throne in to a toilet, here in the UK many people refer to using the toilet as 'visiting the throne room', I just wonder if people elsewhere in the world 'got' that connection?
I'm in the US, Cincinnati, Ohio and yes I made the same connection. 😃 One of the most jarring scenes for me is when Empu goes against the grain and gets beaten up while Kai snaps a selfie.
Great interview, sad news about Endlessness but at the same time I completely understand the decision to leave it off the setlist. It’s like Marko’s swansong in a way. Also, I could listen to Tuomas speak all day 😍
Great interview/conversation. I loved picking up new bits of information I hadn't heard before :) Just sad to know that we'll never hear Endlessness live, I love that song. But I'm glad Tuomas it staying safe and all the band seem to be in high spirits.
I'm not gonna be okay about Marko leaving, but I am wholly more concerned about his health and wellness above all, and while I'll miss him dearly as I do Jukka, I will hope for his happiness and welcome the new member with open arms the same as I welcomed Anette, Marko himself, Floor and Kai. 🙏🥺🥰
Thank you Peter and Tuomas for such and interesting interview. It was great listening to your voices and ideas. Already have my ticket to the live stream show.
Thank you for making this interview! Every time I hear Tuomas it's like he speaks some of my thoughts that I don't know how to say out loud. I am so grateful that he exists and creates this beautiful music. That is why I love Nightwish so much...it lifts me up from the deep sadness and hopelessness. I don't have friends in my life but when I listen to Nightwish and Tuomas speaking it's like I do have a friend, a true one who comforts me and shares wisdom, making my life brighter. Thank you! 💚
Thank you YT algorithms... glad to see a new, quality and NEW interview with Tuomas! Awesome job here! Instant sub. I'll be perusing for sure!! We'll be driving to LA and we also have virtual tickets. I've never seen em and SO looking forward. They've become a hands down favorite band in the last few years for us. Heartbreaking Marko won't be part of it but he has nothing but deserved support. Just hoping the new guy has something special to bring to the table... can be done. High hopes 🤘
Wow! Thanks! I wish there were more oportunities for this long format interviews. It makes the conversation more natural and not so superficial. Of course it needs a good interviewer and you delivered that. I hope all Nightwish members good health and long musical live, I love them ❤️
That was awesome. I could of listened for another hour or three. Such an interesting and thoughtful person, Tuomus usually does such short interviews with insubstantial questions this was great to hear. Well done on the interview Peter.
As a Nightwish fan it's great to hear something from Tuomas during the pandemic. Very interesting questions and info about the Human::Nature album too. Thanks for this. (p.s. I was looking for something new to read and am unfamiliar your novels tbh. So that's hitting two birds with one stone ;))
Thank you so much Tuomas and Peter! This made my day, great talk! I wish the best for Marko! I am a Nightwish fan since 1998, before he joined and added his awesome voice, and this year I FINALLY HAVE TICKETS! Over 20 years of loving this band without seeing them live thanks to the limited US shows and work schedules. I can't wait to see how they do the online shows and visit Massachusetts (14 hour drive!) to FINALLY see them live!
Tuomas is a genius!!! He is incredible and wonderfull compositer, he is only he, nobody in the plantet is he!!! ❤️❤️❤️😍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 My respect to him always!!! Sorry my english is not good yet.
That was a truly excellent interview, i think you could see that Tuomas enjoyed it because your questions and observations were intelligent and insightful 🤘
Great interview Peter, thank you!!! I didn't wanted to stop. Smarts and fantastic questions and great answers from Tuomas. We needed to listen Tuomas what will do next and the discussion for human nature was glorious and beautiful.
Great to hear thoughts from Tuomas! He is though a master at keeping cards close to his chest with a good poker face 🙂 and that makes him so special! From Finland and been two times to Seattle. Loved the place! And then I only saw the city. Would have been nice to see the mountains too. Maybe another time! 🤘🙏
Thanks for doing a interview with Tuomas, i have been looking for them recently, and here was one.. i wanted to see how Tuomas is doing in these new NW times so to say..
Thanks for this wonderful interview. Nice hearing from Tuomas, there hasn't been any interviews through out this pandemic year. Really really great to hear from him. Tuomas crosswords are not easy...I've been doing crosswords for years...but his are not easy to do... :)
My wife and I live in Texas. We bought plane tickets, hotel, rental car and tickets to both Nightwish shows in Los Angeles. First off, I really hope these shows don’t get postponed or canceled. Second, maybe we’ll see you there? 🤔
@@dylin0018 family trip... got tix for the 1st night... thinking should see about tix for the 2nd night... if it isn't sold out. So hope the shows happen!!!
Taoism, Shintoism, Ninjitsu,Budda? I've always contemplated our connection to the universe. Respect nature and ALL life. I listen and it's all so enlightening. It's like your inside my head. LOL. Absolutely loved the interview/conversation. As Bruce Lee said, "Be like water,my friend...."
I am fulfilled of happiness and gratitude for this interview. It is an immense privilege to be able to hear the voice of the most unique mind of this time. Tuomas is way more than just a brilliant brain, his capacity of transmit feelings throughout his words and music is beyond describing. Thank you so much for bringing good questions and a wonderful virtual experience.
This was a great interview! You two get along really well and Tuomas looked very comfortable. Can you imagine a film scored by Tuomas? Or even a board game made by him? It would be so interesting to see how he would use his creativity in such different arts.
I must congratulate you Sir on a most insightful interview with Mr Holopainen! Very intelligent , indepth and informative! I am a great admirer of his, with regard his creativity and I always wondered about his ideas, themes, concepts for his interpretations, artistically. Where he gets his inspiration from? Is it instinctive? How they flow. Your questions covered all of these areas so huge gratitude! Both of you are very much on my wave length! I teach under privileged/ disaffected young people, The Arts, Interpretive, Physical Theatre is a particular passion and I find inspiration from what some may call , off the wall or crazy places! I toss a salad and I see a dance! The lettuce edges are the skirts swirling, the tomatoes large hats! Then I see a scene playing out to certain music, then it develops into a whole performance and I cannot rest until it is realised, if that makes sense! Sorry to whittle on but I feel so inspired by you both! I keep having the same storyline playing over at bedtime and I find myself developing it therefore I cannot sleep! I want to write it down , I feel there is something there but I am intimidated by how to begin. I would appreciate it if you have a moment, if you could give me a few pointers regarding where to start. I hope I am not being cheeky or inappropriate, asking you but I truly feel that I have come to the right place for guidance! Thank you again, most sincerely for your remarkable interview! Look after yourself, I will be watching forth with as I feel that I can learn a lot from you, my peers! God keep you and your loved ones! Love, light, peace and great health Sincerely Marguerite Mulcahy
Peter that was a well orchestrated and entertaining interview with a complex engaging individual. It was almost like Saint-Saens sitting down with Liszt talking musical composition and theory. Excellent points on Simmons, 'Hyperion' is one of the best series I have read in any genre. I would be very interested in reading Tuomas' short stories or playing a game he created. Thanks for a well spent hour.
What a great interview, really interesting. I'm glad RUclips suggested this☺ To me, that's certainly one of the fantastic possibilities of modern technology. But like you I also have to be careful not to spend too much time on my cellphone. I don't want to stray too much from the real world🌍 Thanks for this Peter and Tuomas🙏
Love hearing the interaction with you and Tuomas. What a genius. By the way, my wife, Carol, and I have tickets to the live show at the Warfield in San Francisco on May 18, 2022. Here is the Nightwish 2022 North American Tour schedule: May 04 - Toronto, Ontario @ History May 06 - Montreal, Quebec @ Mtelus May 07 - Lowell, Mass. @ Tsongas Arena May 08 - New York, N.Y. @ Terminal 5 May 10 - Silver Spring, Md. @ The Fillmore May 12 - Chicago, Ill. @ Radius May 13 - St. Paul, Minn. @ The Fillmore May 15 - Denver, Colo. @ Mission Ballroom May 18 - San Francisco, Calif. @ The Warfield May 21 - Los Angeles, Calif. @ The Wiltern
Peter, thank you very much for this interview. To be able to peek into the mind of this individual, even for a little bit, is a treasure. Great chat and dialog. Cheers! Have a great one.
''I spent 2 years making an album about a Duck'' 😂😂
The more I dive in to Nightwish, and discover things about Tuomas in particular, the more impressed at his ingenuity and humility I am.
Right.
I agree
And genuiness, too
I've never cared about listening to an entire album experience as opposed to "hits" or singles, I've never cared about lyrical content, I've never cared about musical thematics -- until I discovered this band. Nightwish has literally changed the way I consume music, and this guy is why.
Hearing him talk about Endlessness not being played live ever broke my heart all over again. I will miss Marko's pressence in the band and the music
The best part about music is that it stays with us. Instead of being sad he’s not playing atm be grateful we have it
Opens up those fresh wounds. Marko will sorely be missed
It's still my favourite song from the new album, how likely is for Marko to at least make an appearance in Finland concerts? That song needs at least one live performance...
Definitely. You could see and hear Tuomas was quite sad about this as well
I still have problems wrapping my mind around Marco not being there.

I think it is midnight in Finland during this interview (maybe one reason). But yes...rest and go !

Tuomas is a genius!!! He is incredible and wonderfull compositer, he is only he, nobody in the plantet is he!!! ❤️❤️❤️😍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 My respect to him always!!! Sorry my english is not good yet.
Your English is fine ;-)
So good to see Tuomas, will be there in May. I've seen the first teaser, can't wait for more.
As someone who has tickets to both of the LA shows, I certainly hope those still happen and that you can also attend. Great interview!
Great interview! I'm not usualy a big fan of these but it was all well structured with interesting topics!
Very good job sir!
I wished that this interview would never end!
That was a truly excellent interview, i think you could see that Tuomas enjoyed it because your questions and observations were intelligent and insightful 🤘
Thank you, Jim! Tuomas sent me a personal note to the same effect. It was an honor to interview him.
@@peterorullian that's great, it certainly seemed there was a lot of mutual respect there.
Thank you for this Peter. I've been a Nightwish fan since 2005. They are very unique and special. They're in my top 3 with Maiden and Dream Theater.
Was my honor!
What a great interview. Looking forward to seeing the show.
Thanks, Kathy!
Great interview!Thank you Maestro, you are so sweet and magnificent,as always!Send my love!
Thank you, Maria!
Thanks for doing this. It has made me even more excited for their forthcoming virtual shows and the European tour later this year. Stay safe 🤘✌
Great interview Peter,thank you!!!
I didn't wanted to stop. Smarts and fantastic questions and great answers from Tuomas.
We needed to listen Tuomas what will do next and the discussion for human nature was glorious and beautiful.
Thank you!
...that's one of many things..that makes Tuomas special..:)
Thx for this Interview and for Tuomas to give so much answers.
My wife and I live in Texas. We bought plane tickets, hotel, rental car and tickets to both Nightwish shows in Los Angeles. First off, I really hope these shows don’t get postponed or canceled. Second, maybe we’ll see you there? 🤔
Me too! Going to both shows in LA. This will be the first time for me to see them live. I really hope it doesn't get canceled.
@@dylin0018 family trip... got tix for the 1st night... thinking should see about tix for the 2nd night... if it isn't sold out.
So hope the shows happen!!!
I've seen them twice in Orlando(years and years ago lol) they will never disappoint
Such a rare and precious interview! I thought that Tuomas just doesn't do them, but it turns out it was just a question of the interviewer 😉
Thank you, Tamara!
Super solid interview. Well done.
Very interesting interview, thanks
Wow, crossword puzzles! That's a cool quirky Hobbie.
And looking forward to the board game idea taking form
Thank you, Jade!
That was a great show Love that you seriously get into the music in a interesting way delving into the creative elements and meanings etc Loved it
Love seeing/listening to this great interview!
Much of interesting talking points
This was a great interview! You two get along really well and Tuomas looked very comfortable.
Can you imagine a film scored by Tuomas? Or even a board game made by him? It would be so interesting to see how he would use his creativity in such different arts.
Thank you, Jonathan!
Thank you! It was so enjoyable for me. And yes, Simmons is a master storyteller.
What a great discussion, enjoyed it tremendously 😄
The Master
That was probably the best and most mutually respectful interview i have ever heard. Very well done!
Thank you, Markus!
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH TUOMAS
Piso = Floor, mmmm is that supposed to be a compliment?
A great interview. You both mutually respect each other, and it shines through. 👏
Thank you, Gerda!
Great interview, I enjoy it a lot.
