My dad left us when I was 3. When my wife got pregnan 17 years later, I tracked him down. She was 7 months pregnant the last time I saw my dad. My son is now 12. I haven't seen him in almost 13 years. I never understood how someone could abandon their kids. Thank you for this reaction. It got to me.

I just found my dad for the first time. I have pictures of him when I was 5 or 6. My mom passed away when I was 9. I grew up with my aunt and uncle. Hoping I can fly to Texas to meet him and his family. Found out I have a younger half brother and sister. My dad never told them about me. He is married. Now they all know about me, we are friends on Facebook. Hoping I can have a relationship with them and get to meet them. Been calling/texting my dad, so far so good.
That's awesome! I'm actually super close to my brothers now. It took some time and patience, finding the right time in all ours lives to connect but we made it happen and the last 25 we've been very close, Ironically though, none of us have a relationship with our father.

I think most of his fans have troubled pasts (I'm So Sorry for all you've been though) and that's why he and his music have remained so relevant. There's No One like him, and we still need him! Just be you, don’t apologise for anything. I don’t have a negative relationship with my parents but their divorce really hurt me as they were in separate countries. Eminem’s music has been therapy for me for 15 years now since I was a 12 year old.
I’m very sorry to hear what you’ve been through. As a man, if I have children, I’ll always be there for them.
Thank you so much. I believe divorce hurts children no matter what the circumstances are, we also use it as sort of a teaching tool of what not to do once we have children. This song hits me hard and it's hard to even rap along with the song because I get a lump in my throat and tear up.
I appreciate Em for sharing this about his biological father, since this is the first time he has addressed his biological Father in this manner. He's thrown a bar or two around here and there throughout his career but this is the first time he's REALLY gotten into his feelings towards his biological father. I wonder if his death back in June of 2019 inspired Em to get this deep about it?

I understand your pain. I can read between the lines and I suffered and survived the same evil from age 5-13 I was told that I would get into trouble for telling and that I would get taken from my mom and she would go to prison. At 13 I told the school councilor and my stepfather was arrested, but somehow the entire school found out about it and then I was know as a slut, a Whore, they would refer to me as the girl who had sex with her stepdad, and they would say it in front of my face. I know what living hell is.
My father left when I was a baby. I remember him beating me at 3 years old, my mom refused to allow the abuse and divorced him. She was a white woman raising mixed black and white babies when it was rare to see. I never spoke to him throughout my life. He left my mom with 3 kids, alone and she got ill, raised us on welfare because she couldn't work. My brother found him 25 years later,, I didn't care to see him... Father got sick, he called my brother and said"get your brother on the phone or tell him I'll beat him like I used to" as if that was funny??
I never let him hear my voice, it was something I didn't want to give him, not a single breath of mine. I told my brother to tell that side of our family," I'll see him when he's dead". Well he died, I went to his funeral at 32 years old, I finally met my entire family that I never knew. Everyone was crying, except me, literally except me. I had no feelings, all I looked at were his hands in his casket and thought about the pain I felt when he knocked me into a wall when I was a baby. Then, to top it off, since nobody thought I would show up... The obituary had my mom's name spelled wrong (obviously they didn't know her) then the story about "all he loved were his sons" WTF!? I was disgusted reading it and I sat there and thought... "I'm glad you're dead, you piece of shit"
Let's just say, I'm feeling this song. I still remember the day I lost my job, no money and asking my brother for his dimes and nickels on his counter so I could buy a chicken sandwich at Jack in the box because I was hungry.
Btw, I became a college grad, bought a home, never arrested, never did drugs, took care of my mom when she had cancer and always knew I would've turned out like shit had he stuck around. Thanks Em, I needed this song, glad I'm not the only one. R.I.P to my mom.
First I'd like to say, thank you for sharing your truth with me, I'm honored. As I said in the video, some of us have a hard past, as you and I can attest. The thing I didn't say was that my mother signed me out of school in the middle of my 10th-grade yr against my wishes because I had become pregnant for my son, I was 15. I turned 16 when he was 2 months old, we moved out and I never looked back. But like you, I now have my Masters and own my own home. We are survivors you and me.
I can't fault you for how you felt or how angry you got at you father's funeral; I can probably say that you're a better person than I, as I probably wouldn't have stayed. However, it seems we both found the same light at the end of a very dark tunnel and his name was Eminem. Have an awesome day sis. Peace.
