    The Grant Hill Ben Wallace trade was essentially a sign and trade like the Lebron one you didn't include. I don't know if it was ever officially that but Grant Hill did indeed plan on signing in Orlando anyway but the Magic were trying to clear some more money so they could also sign Duncan and Tmac(they of course did get Tmac) so they gave a list of players the Pistons could choose from so they could clear more money and the Pistons could get some compensation, reportedly the Pistons actually asked for Bo Outlaw first but the Magic decided they wanted to keep him so they gave them Wallace instead. Regardless the only reason Hill was traded was because he was going to sign there, no way were the Pistons shopping him or would have traded him for Wallace/Atkins if that wasn't the case.

    @dvmonceller 5 лет назад +19

    You have the wrong Wallace on the list. RASHEED WALLACE being acquired by the Pistons before the trade deadline in 2004 made them a championship caliber team. Before that with Ben, Chauncey and Rip they lost in the conference semi finals against the Celtics in 2002 and got swept by the Nets during the 2003 eastern conference finals. With Rasheed, a 2 time All Star in Portland, they reached the NBA finals twice and reached the eastern conference finals for 5 straight years....the last 2 of those (2007 and 2008) Ben Wallace was gone and was playing for the Bulls and then Cavs as a role player.

      No Ben was the more impacful trade. You have to look deeper. The Pistons weren't doing much with Grant Hill and his injuries were starting. The Pistons dealt an aging, injury plagued player who still had name recognition and got Ben and Chucky in the deal. If the Pistons don't do this trade, we would have continued to be mediocre at best. Without this deal happening, we never would have even been in position to need Sheed. Trust me when the deal happened, I was furious. I even remember saying "who the hell is Ben Wallace???".

    • @Steve_643
      @Steve_643 5 лет назад +3

      Everyone thought the Pistons were demolished after Grant Hill left for the Magic . No one knew how bad his injuries actually were and was a superstar coming off his best season. Grant Hill was good enough to allow Detroit to trade him to Orlando before he became unrestricted FA in beginning of that offseason even though he could have just left leaving Detroit with nothing. Most Piston fans kind of looked at that trade as a slap in the face 2 bench warmers for our superstar. 2 seasons after Hill went to the Magic he had only played in 20 games and the Pistons were starting to piece together a Championship team.

He and Phil Jaskson would eventually change the dynamic of how the Lakers had look, both Lakers dynasties great in their own way, yet Kobe still managed to keep the Lakers Box office even with all the injuries. Kidd could make the list twice (nevermind, forgot it was since 2000)... But he also turned the Suns around immediately after being traded there as well. The Suns had started that season 0-13, after Kidd got there the Suns had a 10 game win streak and made the playoffs that season, and every season after that until Kidd was traded away again. That '97 Suns team is still the only team in NBA history to have both a double-digit losing streak (prior to Kidd getting there) and a 10+ game winning streak (after Kidd got there) in the same season. This trade would make the Suns an instant playoff team while setting the Mavericks back several years.
    You could even include the third Kidd trade back to Dallas... Without Kidd, I'm pretty certain Dirk never wins a ring, and vice versa.

      Kidd was an all star for the Mavs in 2009-10, just one season before they won the championship. Dirk was not the only star player, he was the only star scoring option.
      Kidd led all players in the playoffs that season in assists, steals, and three-pointers... You don't do that at 38yo if you're not a star player... Past his prime, sure, but a bonafide star none the least.
      I'd argue that if you took Kidd off the Mavs that season, and swapped him out with the PGs for the Lakers, OKC, or Heat, then whichever of those teams had Kidd would have won the championship and not the Mavericks.
      J Kidd's full impact can't even be seen on the stat sheet... It's doing all the little things right when it matters most... Dirk and Kidd have that in common.

      @@imdbtruth and Shawn Marion, Jason Terry, Tyson Chandler, Peja Stojakovic. Everybody acts like Dirk was all alone but the roster was great, and their role players were actually better than any player out of Miami's big 3.

    Kidd to the Nets was the most impactful. nets went from dead last to championships and non stop playoffs because of a 1 man trade marbury for Kidd. And on the other end the billy king trade should be up there as the worst as it litterally destroyed the franchise for years and it's a miracle current management has pulled them out with nothing to work with. Much respect to Nets

    The Eastern conference was not as weak as you think in 2003 because you still had Pierce’s Celtics The Indiana Pacers with Ron artest the Pistons who were a good team and Iverson’s Sixers and the nets had SWEPT the 1 seed pistons but there is no doubt that the west was way batter than the east and still is today

    It’s funny you’re so correct not many saw James Harden becoming as good as he is today. I don’t want to toot my own horn but I saw It clear as day, though for some reason I thought harden was going to develop into a really good defender as well (which I couldn’t have been more wrong about). I remember getting into a huge argument about how I would have kept harden over Westbrook and people thought I was out of my mind. (Don’t get me wrong I thought they should have kept both) I just always thought Westbrook is very entertaining to watch and you have to respect his killer instinct and passion for the game, but all the criticism he gets about his game and it not translating to wins has been the way he’s always played. Though my only criticism about his game has always been how many 3’s he takes. Like your shooting 25% from 3 and you could jus step inside the 3 line and shoot damn near 50%. It’s totally insane to me. And I just never saw him changing his game because of ego. While I could foresee harden developing way more because his ego would drive him to do so. plus his basketball IQ I would always pick the smart player before the athletic player. (Having both is even better but if I had to choose, brains will always win out). Westbrooks ego is also why I predicted Durant going to the warriors. Anyway the point is I’m proud of myself for those predictions because I’m usually so bad at making NBA predictions. Some examples I Wanted warriors to get rid of curry because I thought he would never get over all the ankle injuries and we could have got some great assets for him. Or I thought lebron would go to 76ers or rockets cause I thought the only way he would go to the West was if it was a winning situation. Or I thought Wiggins for love was a bad trade and Wiggins was gonna develop and lebron could establish a dynasty by sacrificing a year or two for development. Anyway love you content keep up the good work you’re one of my favorite NBA youtubers

    It wasn't a bad deal because they traded an INJURED Grant Hill. But little did they know that his injuries would escalate. Grant Hill had so much potential. Darn injuries.

    Grant Hill was a free agent and agreed to a sign and trade with Orlando. Detroit did not want to lose Grant Hill. (Side note: he Tracy McGrady and Tim Duncan made a visit together with Orlando and Tim didn't sign because he asked if family members can travel to games on the team plane with the players and Doc Rivers said no. Imagine that Big 3 being together).

    The Pistons didn't think it was time to move on from Grant. Joe had just become the President and GM, and was intent on resigning him. It was Grant who went to Joe to inform him that he was planning on taking Orlando's offer. He suggested a sign and trade, due to their time playing together and their friendship.
