Nice tutorial! I make recycled papers and card stocks for my crafting and I found that you don't have to rub the entire center of your negative space to make your embossing stand out/puff up. Especially with card sized embossing. Just make sure your edges are well rubbed. The center will naturally be raised with the edges and your embossing will look great. Bonus - no weird rub lines in your raised designs. You can also use paint stencils for embossing. Just be gentle with the ones cut from the thinner acetates. Also, as mentioned in the comments, you can get stylus with different sized ball tips for embossing. They are used in graphics, paper crafting, clay work, cake decorating and nail art, so you have a variety of sized ball tips to choose from.
This is awesome, I love to do this and a few tips: I used a mouse pad or craft foam underneath to get a nice gush to press the paper onto. And I like to use a bone folder, teflon is my favorite but a real bone tool works well too, I just don't like to use plastic because it can leave weird marks on the paper. With that said those tools will allow you to use regular paper/cardstock. Cheers!
Oh and you can cute out two identical stencils and put the paper in the middle, measure if you need to so the stencils line up perfectly and then do the embossing for super sharp lines but you still get a great result without it.
Erin S. ... That is ingenious!!! You are so smart to think about two stencils sandwiched between the paper... Great idea... Question: Would spraying a mist of water help the tool to manupliate the embossing even better??? just wondering... I am soooo excited about this... I have many book covers I'll be doing with this... YEAH
Judi Christopher well water can cause warping and you can't use just any kind of paper, some papers are made with longer strands of cellulose/wood pulp or cotton and ones made with shorter ones are not ideal because it can cause the paper to come apart, become brittle or rip. However I say try it!! I've done it with 100% cotton paper that was not watercolor paper before but I can't remember the name. If you try it and turns out nice let me know please!!!!!! Happy New Year!
Thank you Erin S. .... that is good advice... I'm thinking about how I have used rubber stamps to IRON on Velvet Fabric... It looks sooo beautiful... (that kind of thought process)... Thank you for telling me about the paper too... I hadn't thought of it that way... I'll have to get my thinking cap on... Thank you so much for getting back to me soo quick... ;)
I just want to say THANK YOU!!!!! I’m getting ready to start making my Christmas cards, and have watched at least 20 videos this morning alone, on ways to emboss by hand. Yours was BY FAR the most instructive, and easy to follow, out of all of them! To top it all off - it doesn’t require me to spend any extra money!!
Wooooooowwww!!!! Thankyou SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMUCH!! This is EXACTLY what I wanted to learn! To use simple tools and hands! ❤😊🎉 Thankyou for sharing the process!
Zoe Thank You very much before machine hand use to make every thing now i can emboss with my hand! All those machines my head swells. I have not seen anyone do it by hand but you.
wowwee! Good stuff. Great tutorial. I teach at a local art guild [seniors mostly]. Thank you for including reinforced safety practice and methods - super important. and So charming - "Wrap the ever-loving crap out of your blade[s]". thanks again.
“We are made of practice.” Well said! Thanks so much for this. It seems an easy and satisfying method. I’m going to see how paper for acrylics works out.
.... OH I forgot to mention... Zoe, YOU are a God-Send... You have no idea how much this video means to me... I have been praying about what I am supposed to do for the lettering of this book... (I was thinking about stamping it...) I love the embossing... then tonight I came across your video.. OMG... ;) "Thank YOU"
just in time for christmas. I could imagine nice name tags for presents and you could use colored papers. I feel like the tree would look great with background color. Need to get me some cardstock. Thank you :)
I love this. It's the clearest tutorial and the only truly personal one that I have found. Will you be showing (simply & safely) how to create some more 'intricate' personal (durable for multi-media) Stencil Design's please? Thanks, bless you. x
Thanks Zoe for a great video. Just what I was looking for. Although I have embossing machine and folders I still wanted to make something of my own design.
Hello, Zoe! New friend here. Your video popped up in my suggestion selection. Thanks for sharing your freestyle embossing method. Very cool monogram design. Blessings & Bubbles..oooOOO
To cut your stencil you may want to try just making the initial cut into the edge of the design with the exacto knife and then cut the rest of the design out with a small pair of manicure scizzors.
Hi? I have tried but the result is not wonderful. I have tried with a watercolor paper and my tool is in wood. It seems so great on your video. Is it the paper that is not adapted? I will buy bristol and a metallic tool ... and will try with a little bit of water. But if you have any idea, I take it :) Thanks in advance
Take the Xmas trees as example - how can I use an inkpad, crayons or whatever to color the background (not tree part) without coloring the tree? The tree is simple but a more complicated design have no idea how to do that. Any tips?
Oh. Liked different technique. Nice vdo. Would you show us how you record yourself? How you hang the vdo camera n on, off it while crafting? Thnx in advance
👍🏽 awesome. This is wonderful. Brass stencils I do have. However, I just might take a stab at making my own stencils for dry embossing. I have a few styluses, an exacto knife, a light box, and a self healing mat.
OKay ... okay... Erin S. and Zoe has sooo many good ideas here... Let's see if I have this right... 2 Stencils "Check"... 1 Bone Folder "Check" ... Mouse Pad "Check" .... I am so excited about this... Zoe, "Thank YOU" so much for this GREAT Tutorial... I have a book I'll be doing the whole book binding... and I wanted it 3D (embossed) .... Do you know how much they want to do this... It is UNREAL... The book that is coming out... is called "Billy The Kid: Little Black Book of Secrets (c) .... I'll be doing the first 50 by hand (binding) in leather, with Gold leaf Lettering ... This is where your embossing comes in... I'll let you know how it turns out... ;)
Great tutorial! Is there a way to do this while keeping the side you are rubbing clean and fresh? I was hoping to print on a double-sided paper and then do my embossing afterwards
@@katelijne5272 I used a sculpting tool called a ball stylus with a metal sphere at the end and went gently, it didn't cause any damage I went very slow

Probably not, I don't a lot of work like this so I don't have a lot of knowledge to share beyond this video, this was just a fun holiday thing.
Zoe... Looks super amazing! Thanks for the demo and the very practical and handy tips :)

Well hell! Wish I had seen this before I invested in a custom embosser which actually still doesn't emboss the weight of paper I want to use.
:( well, hopefully this video helps you. The thicker the paper you want to use for your final, the thicker paper you should use to create the stencil.

They have embossing stylus pens that do the same thing without leaving marks on the back of your work.

so cool!!!!! can i do this on cakes ???
It appeared that the tree was centred on the final product.
Registration is vital, so how did you manage to accurately do that?
So if i want to put gold foil on it using laminating machine, would it keep the embossing?

Amazing!!! I'll try it soon !!!
Thank's for the video.So....cute.
God bless you!
Can you share a link to where to get that X-acto knife? It looks like a good one! Thanks for the tutorial!
Bravo !!!!
Can it b done on a thick( 4 layered) paper
Thank you :)
Wow
This is brillant
Oh, thanks, soooo cool:-)
You're welcome!
Ohhhh this is so so soooo cool!!!!! What?!?!?!?!:D:D
Okay!
*nod*
Whoa. Cool!
So THATS how you do this! Thanks!
You're welcome!
Zoe Hong :):)
hey, may I know, what paper is that? and what kind of paper can be embossed?
Hi! Zoe your ideas are wonderful. I have a question instead of cutting out the picture why not embossed it from the picture itself? Thank You.
You need a thick paper to make an empty space to push the other paper into.
Thank You for answering my question now I understand it.
Tadaaaa🤪
would this work if you put it through an embossing machine I wonder? this is such a good effect though.
I've never used an embossing machine before so I don't know. You could ask someone in a scrapbooking shop maybe.
Thank you!!!

i luv it ^_^
cool video , have you ever tried multiple levels?
you mean multiple layers of paper embossed at once? nope.

there's got to be a simplier way...
Yeah, you can buy a stamping machine.

A friend sent that to me from Japan.
I got mine from rite aid; try a craft store, Walgreens or amazon
