This is excellent! Not only for people interested in pursuing a fashion career, but those of us who’d like to dress ourselves better for starters. I’ve stuck to blacks and greys for a long time because it’s what I’m comfortable with, and even though I love bright items I always feel strange spending my money, afraid I won’t know what to match them with. On a tight budget a purchase will be unjustified and barely worn. No more boring though! This will help me build a fun yet consistent wardrobe. Once again, all your content is brilliant so thank you for taking your time and sharing your knowledge with us.
I'm obsessed with color theory and I love researching and reading about color impact on human behaviour and mood. Sometimes when I go "shopping" I will take notes about different color stories presented and lurk where people spend more time😂 It's always useful to hear more about colors and it makes a big difference when you learn these things. Thank you!
2022 and I’m still coming back to this video of yours. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this! I just love the way you explain things. You’ve helped me out so much. This video is by far the best video about color theory that I’ve watched.
@@zoehongteaches I just subscribed and probably late to the reply’s… But the phrase is “No skin off my nose.” I’m learning about mixing colors for my polymer miniatures business and I want to thank you for your amazing content 😉❤️
Just discovered and subscribed to you; goodness you explained this so well! So glad youve shared this information with us. Its a huge help and I wish I found this channel so much sooner.
Just wanted to thank you before they stop allowing comments (such I heard have no idea if it is true) on youtube. THANK YOU so very much for this series. I have watched them all and will go back to refresh. I suck with color choice, mixing, basically the whole nine yards in dealing with colors. I am attempting some fluid acrylic painting, making lots of mud or just hating the combinations I chose. Finally I searched color theory and you popped up. You are a wonderful teacher and have helped me so very much.
So I'm one of those people who can't tell the difference between different shades/tones/tints etc of colors, sometimes even two separate colors look exactly the same to me. Basically I'm tone-deaf but when it comes to visual art. This is the first and only video that clearly explained color theory to me in a way that finally clicked. You are a gifted teacher! Thank you so much for sharing your talents with the internet!
I Like The Way You Teach... You Just Didn't Beat Around The Bush.... So Straight Forward And Your Explanations Are Pretty Clever Not Like The One They Teach In School... That Makes No Sense Like They Force Us to Do Without Giving An Explanation Behind It... Thanks Once Again Good Job Zoe!
You are an angel... I was this close to completely giving up on art because there was always something off about my works and i couldn't figure out what it was. Now I have a good idea of what it could be (mixing in wrong temperatures and thus color schemes looking all over the place in finished pieces). Thank you SO much. Not only was this video really really helpful but you also have a very pleasant way of teaching. It doesn't feel like my classes in school "DO IT THIS wAAY Or ItS WrOnG!!" but really just like helpful advice. A friendly "look here's the knowledge, now go forth my child and do crazy things to your hearts desire!" :P So so helpful. Thank you again and again. greetings from germany :D
This is probably the best video on color theory on RUclips! So informative, and your methodology is great. Some videos just throw a bunch of technical terms in your face and do not show what they mean in a practical way. Thank you very much!
zoey I grew up around a designer aunt and mother but never learned how to sell myself and I don’t know a lot of the Termanology that you were using as I’ve never taken courses but I am vastly interested. And your passion and interest in what you do really comes through so I wanted to thank you very much for everything you do.

I'm not a designer, just someone in love with fabric and color, and for me you are consistently interesting and amusing in a way that makes me want to keep watching. Thank you so much!
Amazing video! I watched solely because I find visualizing colors as a challenge. Trying to learn through basic art projects, but shopping for my own clothing is a nightmare. Best explanation of choosing colors I have ever watched. I wish you lots of success with your audience.
Thank you. This was informative and will put together. My daughter and I are starting to draw and love but we live too far from anywhere to go to a school to learn I appreciate your lesson and will watch more.
Oh. my. gosh. This is exactly what I've been looking for! THANK YOU for breaking color theory down and making sense of it and especially for discussing value, saturation, temperature, tints, shades, tones and mutes. All the other color theory videos I found stuck to the color wheel and color schemes. You taught me about what goes into a color so I can be free and know how to find or create what I'm looking for.
I think your video was very informative. Easy to understand. You have a good use of vocabulary I think if you so desire. You can be a college professor. You may face discrimination. Don’t let that stop you. Keep going. Don’t be like other teachers. Be you! A teacher who doesn’t talk down to people. Has the ability to teach simple to the point. I derived all that from this one video.
You have the ability to open up captions and allow your subscribers to do it free-I believe it's called community-contributed subtitles. You could at least get English subtitles that way. Just in case you didn't know!
Ok, I set up it up for community contributions so we'll see what happens. So far, no one who volunteered before followed through past 1 video so that's why I was going to hire someone.
I could help with Arabic, since I am Egyptian if you need this for your Arabic viewers because your videos are more than perfect. i am literally studying with your videos coz I can't afford a college for fashion. poor hahhaha 😂
This is a really nice educational video on how to work with Colors using a subtractive colors. What some people should see is that you are coloring on white paper which has all of the color values and the colored pencils are filters that negate the color from the the white which creates a pigment of that color. The entire process works by subtracting color from white. On the flip side with additive colors, such as RGB, you add colors onto a black background. This is because the surface we see it from is self illuminated like the pixels on the screen. Not all CMYK and RGB colors can be displayed. CMYK has a very limited color gamut due to the amount of inks and dyes we typically use. Adding certain materials and chemicals. We can create a few more. The RGB has the same problem. There is a limited amount of colors that can be displayed due to the technology of blends we use. But its typically the gamut range is much larger, especially in the Red's and Blues. This is why when you create designs using a computer you may need to convert them from RGB to CMYK. There are many forms of RGB as well as CMYK. Some printers use specific versions and some Cameras or scanners use different RGB color science. Adobe RGB is an example of one type of RGB with a much larger color gamut but is not shows to every monitor because some monitors or software don't have the ability to display it. Instead it appears to be over saturated. One other method to use is a LAB color method. This uses the Luminescence, Alpha, and Beta values to select a color using this method you can get any theoretical color you need even though your computer will only approximate the color. Finally there is adaptive perceived color. It uses scales and angles from how light is reflected to your eyes to change the Hue. An example of this is found in car paint that may appear to be green from the front, but as it drives by it changes to orange. What happens here is that the paint is applied in a specific scaled pattern that reflects and splits up the chromatic values like a filter would. The same is seen on scales of a chameleon or wings of certain butterflies. Sorry I wrote so much. Just wanted to to add some more knowledge to her amazing content. :)
Thanks for your in-depth information all in one lesson, and you made everything so clear with your demonstrations, they just refreshed my colour theory again.
ZoeI just wanted to say that you are so right about color playing a lot to do with changing the feel of your design. I did a tiger animal print in pink and yellow. It gave it a completely spring feel and looked almost floral, when done in oranges and black the same pattern looks like fall animal print.
