"Buckingham Nicks" and "Rumors" were behind only Sinatra and Nat "King" Cole in seduction music. I sing "Green Manalishi" just walking around, but that's not the cut I want when we're back at my place and I need to dance her into the correct room.

Listening to Kirk talk about that guitar is truly something. In his words, he says that he doesn't see it as his own guitar, but rather the "people's guitar" and said that "it wants to be played." Some people say that it isn't the same when it isn't being played by Peter Green, but Kirk certainly has an unmistakable respect for it.

  • @carnacthemagnificent2498

Kirk Hammett is playing Peter Green's Les Paul from back when they recorded this originally. For guitar nerds this is about the same as seeing someone walk on stage with John Mayall and play 'Steppin Out' on the Eric Clapton's Beano guitar. That is to say it's epic. Glad to see Hammett playing it on stage still and not storing it behind bullet proof glass in a vault somewhere.

Nobody is going to compare favorably to Peter Green playing that guitar. Whoever is playing it will pale in comparison to Green, and he didn't even like that guitar much. It's just incredibly cool to see it on stage with original member(s) of Fleetwood Mac playing this song again all these years later.

Poor Peter,,his brains were nearly as scrambled as Syd Barrett's ,,but it never affected his playing for the most part. There have been one serious sh*t ton of great musicians come from Peter's band,,F.Mac.

I agree since I never really was a big Metallica fan! Though I do like both Mac and Priest's version of this song!! Everyone is right above about what they've all stated because after all the song is called the (Peter) Green Manalishi. Therefore the song was definitely about him. However Priest proved that it was an incredibly excellent track to turn into a harder rock one. Like with most English band's once they got to America it was very hard to make it early on. It took Mac about 8 years and Priest about 6. For God's sake how many albums did Mac have before they got played on the radio? Maybe 10?? Priest basically had to resort to playing covers on 3 of their albums to even get played at all! "Diamonds & Rust", "Better by You, Better than Me" and this one!!

'58-'60 Sunburst Gibson Les Pauls are kind of the Stradivarius of electric guitars and as such some of the most prized and most expensive of all vintage instruments. This particular guitar owned by Peter Green, Gary Moore and now Kirk Hammett is possibly the most valuable of all time!

For what it worth, I think that this is an awesome reworking of the Green Manalishi and one that all the players of this version should be justifiably proud of. The fidelity of the HD footage and audio of this recording was really something to behold on the big screen when I saw it about a month ago and is probably the best recorded live concert I have ever seen from a technical point of view.... great kudos to the production team.
As for the playing, well its pretty hard to go past Kirk's solo which was absolutely stunning and a totally worthy tribute, however Billy's vocals were awesome with that old blues growl which suits the this genre so well and they really gave this a forceful, dark undertone to the song...the low end thump of Messer's Fleetwood, Bronze and Starkey brought a polyrhythmic, wallop to the engine room, to keep everyone on course...Mick summed it up at the end of the song when you can hear him say " the Green Manalishi....Nailed it!"....they certainly did...I can't wait for the Blu Ray to come out and may have to view the online stream today while I wait...12 out of 10!
