@@BanthamLegend I can find all the tabs -Jake Bugg, Ben Howard, Billie Marten, Colter Wall, The Tallest Man On Earth, John Martyn, Nick Mulvey- , but that's it, no Shakey Graves. Maybe the website is bugging?
I have a medical board exam on Friday and when I tell you I have tried everything I can to calm down and nothing was helping til I pulled out the guitar and started working on this. It's so calming to focus on these patterns the way you break it down is really therapeutic thank you !!
Dude needs to know every artist he does a tutorial about. Amazing how he manages to copy all these covers almost perfectly! Even as this is a sort of 'freestyle' version. Great work man! Thanks a lot! 🙏🏻
Been a huge fan of Shakey for a few years now, but never could find good instructional videos on his songs that went into both the chords *and* the picking patterns. This was incredible. It will definitely give me something to do during quarantine. Do you plan on doing other Shakey Graves tutorials? I, personally, could never get the patterns down for Late July, only my bastardized version of it -- would love to see you do one on that song! Thanks again!
Same as you Hayden. I really struggled with holding together the alternate bass thumb throughout. I've seen a rig rundown on YT Premier Guitar. ES 175 hollow Gibson, Fender Deville amp.
Hope you’re keeping this up. You’re so freaking CLEAR. And patient… Helps allot. And you don’t talk all about your bad self, whew.. that’s when ya know… Tanx, Dude. You rock. Of course…. ;)
Another fantastic lesson Pete ! You do such a great job of walking through the song without putting me off at all, Allowing me to comprehend everything first and then work on speeding things up in my own time. Great teacher. Thanks again ! Love this tune
You are by far my favorite guitar teacher on youtube. When I see a tutorial with your name and tabs on the cover, I get so happy and exited. You make guitar learning so efficient and enjoyable. God bless you.
You're such a legend for posting the videos and tabs for free. Never thought I could learn this but am feeling pretty comfy at 90 bpm at the moment. Thanks a lot!
super super... more shakey graves lessons please... you are the best teacher, your video really showed me how to do something that i've been trying for months, for the first time i nailed it, slow but sure. huge thanks
Hey man, don't know if you'll be reading this since this video is quite old, but just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated your lesson. I absolutely love your teaching style, the tabs on the top of the video also help a lot to visualize what youre doing. I love how calm your voice is, and you seem like an awesome guy. Please keep doing lessons like this, I will certainly subscribe and see what else you have in store for us. Cheers and much love from Austria!
Why am i here, because im here, roll the bones ! Whoops.... wrong Roll the bones... I thought it sounded odd even without Geddy's bass parts.... But you opened my mind to a new song from a completely different genre - and I stayed tuned and have appreciation for the song and a much more opened mind. I came here for one thing and i left more worldly and with a greater range of music appreciation. Good job ole boy!
Ha, coincidentally I was commenting on a discussion on Reddit about a new Ben Howard song that's apparently in 7/4 timing and so I suggested listening to Subdivisions 🤙🏻
DUDE! Followed your videos for Ben Howard tutorials and I've learned a ton over the years. Awesome to see you're doing this song, it's been a tough one for me. Thanks mate :)
@@BanthamLegend I love this lesson! Check out Ramblin' Bones by Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown! Its open tuning resonator blues and I don't see any lessons on this song and it definitely fits your wheel house!
this tutorial is the best one i’ve ever watched! thank you so much. i do wish you would have gone through the verses, though. i don’t think i’m good enough to improvise yet
Thanks, happy to keep you busy during lockdown. If it helps, Shakey generally just does the thumb notes whilst singing. Also, I try to keep the videos around 20 minutes, cos if it takes much longer than that then I'm probably taking too long to explain the song 🤙
Also, I just found The Tallest Man On Earth's cover of Jesus Etc. By Wilco and it's just amazing! If you did a cover/lesson on that it would blow people away. The melody and intrinsic guitar intertwining with his vocals are just magical I'll link the video 😄
This is TMOE's cover of Jesus Etc. I think this is the only time he's played it and it's very unique. ruclips.net/video/V-vevSAWQrA/видео.html His quarantine live sessions are outstanding. Many of the songs and covers on these sessions haven't been recorded anywhere else but his live sessions.
This is a great video. Just got Devil Wears a Suit and Tie down from your other video. You’ve made the impossible possible. When you’re hitting 9th fret 6th string I find it a little easier to move around if I use my thumb to hook it. Frees up more fingers for switching 8 and 9 on second and 9 on first!
Oh this is great stuff!!!! I've just recently started playing again and I'm currently learning "tomorrow" but this is next on the list, definitely know where I'll come to learn it now! Great work as always
I think I'm still a small fish. Gareth has literally 100 times as many subs as me and a lot more views. But if it happens I'll just have to do what he did which is edit out the tabs from the videos and put the tabs on a site that sells them. It sucks, but it's that or not at all.
For anyone not playing on heavier strings you can play this on open d, half a step higher I believe so easier to keep tune. Same with most of his songs.
Agreed! Excellent work man, if only you made this years ago so I didn’t have to spend years figuring it out - but still took some great tips on the arrangement.
Phenomenal job, thank you so much. I have been looking for some reliable Shakey Grave covers/lessons and yours is paced perfectly for my learning level. Would you be interested in doing a Late July lesson at some point as well?
You have helped me play so many of my favourite songs over the last few years and I've been a bit obsessed with this artist of late.
