Which is more than anything the reason for Radio is dying out, it's not challenging people to listen. Music is never dead, live instrumentation might be on a decline, but if you dig around on the Internet, plenty of it is there. Perhaps you can look away from the Radio as a source of new tunes moving forward?
I disagree, although this is probably true for most cases there are always exceptions to the rule. I learned about this, as well as many great artists, through public radio. KEXP seems to have some great, atypical artists as well.
This man's talent is not yet fully recognized. This is extraordinary artistic self expression. His music is full of soul and emotional content unlike most artist.
This made me buy a guitar amps and a microphone yesterday. I’m building the suitcase drum kit today with my dad. I’m going to spend as long as it takes to learn how to play this perfect and then I’ll play it til i die lol. This is the best thing I’ve literally ever seen. This preformance is literally setting me down a mildly different life path lol. Thank you Mr Graves
@@there_may_be_a_fire7888 good! My fingers hurt but I enjoy practicing actually. I’m learning the cage system currently. The finger styling of this song is insanely hard ha. I can sorta play some of “teenagers” by my chemical romance. It’s not “on time” but I’m getting the notes down. I’ll probably post a video at some point of my progress. It’s fun just fucking around with. I heard it takes like 6 months for my fingers to even get used to it. I have a few friends who play and they’ve been cool about teaching me stuff. Thanks for asking :)
always wind up back here at this one video of him. the rawness and the power in this one is just unmatched none of his official streaming music can quite compare. something about it. lives rent free in my brain always
Always come back to this version of the song. Listen to all types of music and genres but this scratches my brain more than any other. Special place in my heart.
I showed this vid to my gf and half way through she went to the bathroom for a pretty long time. Not sure what she was doing in there but it gave me just enough time to work one out to Shakey's glistening arms.
Prior to taking up guitar myself five years ago, I would not have had the overwhelming appreciation for this Masterful performance that I do today; I discovered this just a few days ago and I find it absolutely brilliant! I'm blown away by how drawn I am to it (I can't stop myself from listening to it over-and-over) there's an emotional presence in which I find so refreshing and inspirational that I'm pretty sure there was a transfer of a soul involved here! LoL Being a writer of several hundred song lyrics and ideas, in varying degrees of completion, I was inspired to the point of writing my own lyrics to it in which I titled "The Lesser of my Two Evils".
Sorry but no. Tash has nowhere near the skill level that Shakey does. The sheer amount of intelligence this guy shows by being able to create melodies and harmonies on his guitar, sing and play percussion simultaneously live far outweighs Tash's intelligence as seen by her/his ability to use looping software.
I saw him for the first time last night. He is a real character. I love his raw funky approach. Once he begins a song he is totally in the music. He is at the mercy of the music. Loved his performance.
Same here, I was down at Treasure Island, Initially I was really disappointed when Caamp bailed, but honestly, hearing him live I genuinely am so glad I was able to see him
Omg I was thinking of the artists of our time that can do this, and she was the first I thought of!!! Literally thought of her right before I scrolled down and saw this! Idk u girl but I love u lol she's amazing with her "Jungle" jam sesh in her living room!!!
Found this video a couple of days ago and I can't stop listening to this guy. I'm obsessed. I haven't heard anything like him before. His music is perfect mix of western, rock, and folk. He's described as a country folk artist but it he sounds more western than country to me.
I definitely hear the folk in his music, but yeah, country doesn’t really fit what I’ve heard so far. Folk/bluegrass/western, and this particular song has some deep blues vibes.
I met an adorable 12 year old from Georgia at the hat shop I worked at who told me his idol was Shakey graves and it made my heart explode. He was so excited to become great and we talked about music and lyrics...gosh I hope that kid becomes an awesome musician and human being bless him
That main guitar riff does something indescribable and wonderful to my soul. And the vocals are beautiful, too. This song makes me feel so alive every time I listen to it.
This is some of the most impressive shit ever. I wanna know what tuning he’s in, and what gauge strings he’s got on, freaking 9s? Those bends look like they’re gonna snap, but they’re so loose and the action is low, the way I set my guitars up. He’s in that rare zone you get in , where you don’t have to look at anything, and you just lean into the emotion and feel of sounding awesome. Dude is amazing.
There are certain songs you hear at certain times that are the perfect mood and match the perfect feeling, and most importantly will bring back memories each time you hear them. Every time I listen to this song, it will bring back one of the greatest memories I have and I’m thankful for it.

Love to see all the comments from the last year. This guy is an absolute machine and this song is up there for one of the best, I think. Been almost 10 years since I first saw this and I still come back regularly
you know a video is done extremely well when you start listening to the song and turn it off to go watch the video. every time. audiotree breathed so much life into this already superb performance. on a related note, the movement and liveliness of the camera, for some reason, create a substantial amount of overall sexiness. or is it just him? it might just be him. brb going to watch it again 6 or 7 or 35 times.
I know this isn't much considering it's over the internet. But i just listened and watched a few of your videos, you have a very pretty voice that matches the overall beauty of yourself. For what it's worth, you have a very good and calming sound to your voice, very pretty. I know it's not much from a random stranger. But goodluck :)
I'm not bashing the video in anyway here, I enjoy it quite a lot, but I think it has more to do with Shakey's live performance abilities. I don't think I've seen him play a song, especially Roll the Bones, the same way twice. He's always experimenting and doing amazing things with his own music.
He had a voice born of a thousand thousand cigarettes and too much whiskey. It brushed across your ears like a gentle hand accustomed to hard labor. The rough callous accentuating the yearning heart beneath it. You heard the life in the voice. The years of mistakes, the tries and failures and getting back up again. The years of victories and the relief when getting back up finally worked. A voice that carries stories in its body as much as in the words it forms. His voice was rough and raspy, and rich. It was satisfying and fulfilling in spite of the broken corners and splintered beams. A voice that you could open up and relax into. It was a good voice. It was a very good voice.

You don't get that if you get played on the Radio. Which is more than anything the reason for Radio is dying out, it's not challenging people to listen.
Music is never dead, live instrumentation might be on a decline, but if you dig around on the Internet, plenty of it is there. Perhaps you can look away from the Radio as a source of new tunes moving forward?
If you want to hear good music, stop listening to the radio. It's not rocket science
Dakota Chambers
2024 here and lovin it still!
I'm 66 and thought I'd never see anything as new and creative as Shakey! All hail Youth!
How is it 2020 and I'm just now hearing this??? It's beautiful.
RUclips has let us down
I follow WXRT in Chicago
@least you know now.🔥💣💥💯❤
Agreed.
Jay my exact thoughts
This made me buy a guitar amps and a microphone yesterday. I’m building the suitcase drum kit today with my dad.
I’m going to spend as long as it takes to learn how to play this perfect and then I’ll play it til i die lol. This is the best thing I’ve literally ever seen.
This preformance is literally setting me down a mildly different life path lol. Thank you Mr Graves
Awesome! Stick with it 💕
Got an update for us?? Because that would be one hell of a duo.
Amazing that you're keeping up with it!!! Stay the course!
Check out Colter Wall brewery sessions too
always wind up back here at this one video of him. the rawness and the power in this one is just unmatched none of his official streaming music can quite compare. something about it. lives rent free in my brain always
Dear RUclips algorithm, thank you, for once, for taking me somewhere I didn't know I really wanted to go. My mind is blown at the range and talent.
Always come back to this version of the song. Listen to all types of music and genres but this scratches my brain more than any other. Special place in my heart.
The album version is awful 😐
Took the words right out of my mind..
I showed this vid to my gf and half way through she went to the bathroom for a pretty long time.
Not sure what she was doing in there but it gave me just enough time to work one out to Shakey's glistening arms.
😂😂😂
So did your GF..
Haha lol laughed out loud for real 🤣
@@nicnic5463 me too, got a raised eyebrow from my boyfriend
Hi Dad!
LoL
Being a writer of several hundred song lyrics and ideas, in varying degrees of completion, I was inspired to the point of writing my own lyrics to it in which I titled "The Lesser of my Two Evils".
Sometimes I can't even walk and speak at the same time.....annnnd then there's this guy
😅😂😮😅😂
He is so smooth. The raspiness of his voice mixed with the tone of his guitar is divine. Very raw performance.
Tash Sultana + Shakey Graves = musical geniuses of this time. such talent!
Hell yeah!!! Love them both!!!
Sorry but no. Tash has nowhere near the skill level that Shakey does. The sheer amount of intelligence this guy shows by being able to create melodies and harmonies on his guitar, sing and play percussion simultaneously live far outweighs Tash's intelligence as seen by her/his ability to use looping software.
dude, I'm so lucky to be seeing both of them in May in Cleveland. Shakey on the 13th and Tash on the 27th. I'll be able to die happy.
Yes sir I'll smoke to that one...Tash & Shakey is the best talent out right now!!!!!
Bumpin Uglies Band. Love tash and shakey
Beautiful song; it is very comforting to me right now. I lost four very special people close together. This song hugs me.
I saw him for the first time last night. He is a real character. I love his raw funky approach. Once he begins a song he is totally in the music. He is at the mercy of the music. Loved his performance.
Same here, I was down at Treasure Island,
Initially I was really disappointed when Caamp bailed, but honestly, hearing him live I genuinely am so glad I was able to see him
As this performance is now a decade old, this still stands the test of time.
This man has more talent in the tip of his index finger than I do in my whole body. Thank you for reminding us what good music sounds like, Alejandro.
Whenever I think I’m getting good at my musical progression I come back here and humble myself. Love u dad.
Shakey and Tash Sultana should get together. They are kindred spirits! I can only imagine what a musical collaboration would sound like.
Hell fucking yea!!
Omg I was thinking of the artists of our time that can do this, and she was the first I thought of!!! Literally thought of her right before I scrolled down and saw this! Idk u girl but I love u lol she's amazing with her "Jungle" jam sesh in her living room!!!
This would be amazing!
Thanks ❤️
Yessssss
Found this video a couple of days ago and I can't stop listening to this guy. I'm obsessed. I haven't heard anything like him before. His music is perfect mix of western, rock, and folk. He's described as a country folk artist but it he sounds more western than country to me.
I was too
I definitely hear the folk in his music, but yeah, country doesn’t really fit what I’ve heard so far. Folk/bluegrass/western, and this particular song has some deep blues vibes.
just raw talent. he is amazing and needs to be more popular
Guy Fieri would you let him play in flavor town?
Guy Fieri Tell em Guy!
buddy i said he has raw talent. I'm looking for medium-rare
From 5k views to 30million. I been listening to this for 8 years.
Now they play it on a local indie station. Never gets old.
I'm a straight 40 year old virgin man and watching this made my water break.
Just had the same problem!
Yakk
Lol'ed
Perfect music for people like you , Biden fan ?
I remember when this had hardly any views thinking why is he unknown ,now stands at 28million, awesome
I religiously have listened to this song every single day for probably the pasts 6 months lol
10 years later still coming back to this magnificent performance
Honestly I only heard his music on spotify and definitely though shakey graves was an entire band not one person. A true virtuoso
I met an adorable 12 year old from Georgia at the hat shop I worked at who told me his idol was Shakey graves and it made my heart explode. He was so excited to become great and we talked about music and lyrics...gosh I hope that kid becomes an awesome musician and human being bless him
That is way too cool ♡♡♡
amen
That main guitar riff does something indescribable and wonderful to my soul. And the vocals are beautiful, too. This song makes me feel so alive every time I listen to it.
This is one of the best performances I’ve heard in the past year. Wow I’m in awe
I think he's in an open tuning. Open C maybe.
he's in open c# major
since the guitar is tuned so low the string tension is a lot looser and the bends are easier. He is probably playing regular gauge 12's or even 13's.
if you check out the last album he put out, he talks about how he inherited this hainted guitar that only wanted to stay in tune lower (:
I have no idea what you just said . But yea he’s ducking awesome
My ovaries are just sweating profusely after seeing this beautiful being singing and playing. I want to have his babies
Oof
I don't have ovaries and mine are flooded rn
Jay Bay RIGHT!
You Go Girl!!!
I do too!
Old man here
And impressed as hell
New sound,or just bending the old in a new way.
Brought tears to this navy vet 10 folds!!!!!
There are certain songs you hear at certain times that are the perfect mood and match the perfect feeling, and most importantly will bring back memories each time you hear them. Every time I listen to this song, it will bring back one of the greatest memories I have and I’m thankful for it.
Oh my goodness, I'm so obsessed with this raw performance.
RIP Alex Chapa. After so many obstacles you faced you conquered them all and went out like a Legend. Went from convict, to fireman eventually winning rookie of the year firefighter. You will be missed forever my brother. Houston legend.

This performance/song/writing/art/human/man/gloriousness/delicious fire of perfection ... is how I can stay alive.
😮 I'm seven years late. Glad I found my way here. This guy is good.
LMAO I jus found this last week, and assumed it was new (1year old) because I jus got this far down in the comments 😂🤣😭
good gracious that snarl is everything. I can't resist a good, rough voice bellowing out some soul tunes, this is perfection

Aww!!! So nice hearing back from a very big fan like you . I really appreciate your support and I promise to always keep it counting for you
I've been listening to this for weeks, can't stop.
Easily one of the best songs ever written
And the performance
Stellar
Top five favorite songs of all time
Instantly ❤❤❤❤❤
What is the acceptable limit for how many times I can listen to this? Can't. stop.
***** SOOOOO good.
funnym because i listened to this alsmost 30 times in a row now. Can understand!!!!
+Marcel hehe and here I am again, thanks for the reminder
Every morning for 6 months now haha, it gets me going.
Alejandro is THE sexiest man alive, & pure genius. I can watch him all day & all night in amazement. Wow.
I'm actually glad that people are finding Shakey Graves stuff and liking it. I started listening because of my parents and I really fell in love with Alejandro's music. If you just finding his stuff, I recommend his album "Can't wake up" Its got some good stuff, and that was the first album I started listening to.

I love this version. It's so much better than the album version. I keep coming back to it, over and over again. Love it.
Love to see all the comments from the last year. This guy is an absolute machine and this song is up there for one of the best, I think. Been almost 10 years since I first saw this and I still come back regularly
I’m sorry I can only give this 1 “thumbs up”. It deserves 10
you know a video is done extremely well when you start listening to the song and turn it off to go watch the video. every time. audiotree breathed so much life into this already superb performance. on a related note, the movement and liveliness of the camera, for some reason, create a substantial amount of overall sexiness. or is it just him? it might just be him.
brb going to watch it again 6 or 7 or 35 times.
Hey call me
I know this isn't much considering it's over the internet. But i just listened and watched a few of your videos, you have a very pretty voice that matches the overall beauty of yourself. For what it's worth, you have a very good and calming sound to your voice, very pretty. I know it's not much from a random stranger. But goodluck :)
TealFish
thanks a lot! that's so kind. I really appreciate it.
I'm not bashing the video in anyway here, I enjoy it quite a lot, but I think it has more to do with Shakey's live performance abilities. I don't think I've seen him play a song, especially Roll the Bones, the same way twice. He's always experimenting and doing amazing things with his own music.
I liked this comment before realizing it came from one of my favorite youtube musicians.
This song will randomly get stuck in my head for days if not weeks and I'm okay with that.
What the fuck did I just watch? This guy is mind blowing
Saw him live last night opening for city and colour, he's pretty great live
+Jase B I saw him as the opener in Red Deer too and he was better than I anticipated, I knew he was amazing but it was just mind blowing
Whattt that sounds like an ill concert
Hes got such a unqiue voice. if he blows up, like im hoping, he'll be remembered forever.
Everything this man does is so thorough and complete. No part is wasted or just filler, blown away yet again
it's gonna take generations to appreciate this, i guess. full circle.
he never plays a song the same way twice. it's both obnoxious and fantastic..
so effing talented. how does he remember to play all that and still be able to sing? in love with everything in this performance.
Ive lost track of how many times ive come back to listen to this performance. truly one of his greatest showings.
God gave this guy every ounce of my talent and almost everyone I know. Glad to see it's being put to good use!
Watched this a hundred times.. goosebumps every single time. Absolute musical perfection right there.
اللي جاي من تغريده كرم لايك ♥️ ذوقة في الاغاني عجييييييييييييب 🔥♥️
This is one of the best songs of all time.
This is what true talent looks like!
Congratulations on your Ten year anniversary of “Roll the Bones”! Love you Shakey! Keep rockin baby!
I thank the invention of the internet so much for this video in particular.
Oh well that's how it goes! So it goes.
