The funny thing is that, following the previously established release schedule for Mario Kart, we would usually have two NEW games by now. Likely one in 2017/2018, and one in 2020/2021, since a new title usually releases once every 3 or 4 years. Instead, it's been almost 8 years, and we still have no new game at all.
If you think about it we do have 2 new games: Deluxe, VR, Tour, and Live. All of those are half a game so that adds up to 2.

Pikmin fan base has the same suffering, I would say worse as Mario Kart is a side series rather than a main line series
The last we heard of Pikmin 4 was in 2015, where it was supposedly close to completion, at which we got a spin off game to hold us over. Then the Switch came out, and may have been delayed to release on that, and who knows how long since they put it on hold since porting Pikmin 3 (and other Wii U games) to the Switch was top priority over Pikmin 4 (and possibly actually making games). Now we have another spin off. Who knows how close Pikmin 4 is to completion.

@@custom-r Mario Kart 8 also got a re-release on switch. And a mobile game. Also to fill the Mario Kart void there are plenty of substitutes to play whereas pikmin is its own thing

That’s the thing, though. This is clearly the best a Mario Kart title has ever done, and its sales don’t drop after each passing year. I’m pretty sure the philosophy here is “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” So it makes sense that Nintendo would milk it dry.
But I totally understand your wishes, too. Lately, I’ve been thinking that a new Mario Kart should include even more guest stars like Link and Animal Crossing, and how it might include a Double Dash mode using that roster. Wouldn’t that be awesome???

@@nappa3550 Chocobo GP is a sequel to Chocobo Racing from the PS1. It’s a kart racer where everything is based on something from the main series, and there’s plenty of fanservice. I haven’t gotten the chance to play the PS1 game but it’s a cult classic. I’m GP lives up to the original because on top of being something that’s great for Final Fantasy fans from what I know about it, it’s just a good racing game.
@@supercamborg4218 I've literally never heard of the spinoff. But then again My family didn't have really many ps1 games (outside FF7, FF1-2, and 9). Most of the old games we have are for the N64, SNES and NES
@@nappa3550 the game received middling reviews at the time (though obviously it’s reputation has completely changed) and it didn’t sell well, so it’s not surprising that you didn’t hear anything about it
I got bored of deluxe faster than any other game in the series. Only because I had already been playing 8 for 3 years before deluxe came out. 9 Better be the greatest thing since sliced bread since they've had 7+ YEARS TO WORK ON IT!

I need a new double dash. I love the game but it was unfortunately right before they added 4 new cups to the formula and I think we need a more polished double dash. And I think it would be better that way as double dash would scratch that "not just Mario Kart 8 but diffrent tracks" itch I have.

Respect to you for having the guts to state how you prefer 8 Deluxe over Wii in many ways. As someone who's seen how absurd the MKWii stans can get, you're one brave soul.
Mario Kart Wii today is treated the same way Mario Kart 64 was 10 years ago.
I guess people will accuse you of just being a “bandwagoner who only likes it because it’s newer, better graphics, more characters, more tracks” like Melee and Ultimate
Also, some people don’t like the idea of “most of the time, the new Mario Kart games just straight up replace the old ones for me” philosophy shown by people like Scott the Woz, so in a sense of partial contrarianism, there’s a sense of “um, actually this older game was better and you only like this new game better because ‘more content’ and ‘graphics’”
Scott the Woz does in a weird way, somewhat like that Wii has the most absurdly chaotic item balance in the entire series, though, and that will always be the main defining aspect of that title
(Also Wii’s battle mode is okay enough at best)

Double Dash is the true demigod of the franchise.
It is weird that Wii is considered the more competitive game because it has way more random item BS, I’d argue DS and Double Dash are the most “competitive” because snaking is basically the Mario Kart series equivalent of wavedashing and Double Dash has much more precise controls than the rest of the series
Wii feels more like the Brawl of the series honestly
@@jomaq9233 I do agree although I wouldn't say MKWii is as bad competitively as Brawl was.
In my casual opinion, what I dislike about Wii is the wall physics. If you so much as brush a single pixel, you don't just bump but rather you get superglued to the wall with a very distinct sound. Being used to playing shitloads of Double Dash when it came out (I'm 35 so I'm old lol), going from cool wall slides in DD to NO FUN EVER kind of walls in Wii was really jarring.

I honestly can't see or play Mario Kart 8 anymore. I completed it on Wii U, with every vehicle unlocked, everything gold in every class (3 stars), and have beaten any time trial ghosts from Nintendo. After that I bought the Deluxe version too and unlocked there everything as well. Then I played online for a year or something, sometimes with friends and now I'm here. I can't see this game anymore. I remember being a kid, and being hyped, seeing Mario Kart 8 on Wii U. I wanted that game so much. And now, I can't see this game anymore. I wouldn't play it the next 2-3 years, that's for sure.

For those of you who cant wait any longer for Mario Kart 9, Mario Kart Tour is actually fun tho. There’s been like 10-20 brand new courses released over the last two years. (Which is 10-20 more brand new courses than Deluxe has gotten). The current new course lets you drive in a city and glide onto a pool that’s on top of a skyscraper.
The addition of Reverse, Trick, and Reverse/Trick Courses makes even the older courses feel newer and different. For example, DS Airship Fortress’s Trick Form has you going on and off of Ramps during the Glider section.
Top top all things off, on Wednesday, you can get a free Wario or Waluigi depending on what team you choose for the upcoming Team Rally Event where there’s more Bonus Gifts.
Would be so much better if it was like Mario Run and you paid like $20 or something to get the full game with characters, skins can be optional and be a added source of revenue but not be a pay to win thing. I would still be playing Tour today if that was the case.
Just finish getting through the stages of grief and accept that Tour *is* Mario Kart 9.

I feel like since Smash is obviously wrapped up, having it’s most grandiose entry with Ultimate, Mario Kart would be a great game to try and rally up some hype with announcements or surprise characters.

If you don't count Deluxe as a new Mario Kart, because it's really just Mario Kart 8 on Wii U but with the DLC and some features tacked on. (An actual battle mode, a new character, and "the game literally plays itself" mode.) Then we haven't gotten a main series Mario Kart since 2014! THAT'S ALMOST 8 YEARS!
The road to Mario Kart 9 is the second half of Wii U's lifespan, Switch's entire lifespan (as the current Nintendo console) and the first 1.5 years of the next Console.
I think a better question is where's Identifying Luck: Mario Party 6?
I'm calling it now: Nintendo will reveal Mario Kart 9 at E3 2022, but it won't release until 2023 just to force ZoomZike into playing Mario Kart Tour; if he was able to get RUclips to remove dislikes, surely his influence can spread to Nintendo as well.
I haven't gotten Mario Kart 8. When I got the Wii U I was going to wait until a new Mario Kart came out (It was near the end of the Wii U era). Got the Switch, and held off so I could get a new Mario Kart. But then Deluxe came out. Still thought I could wait.
