Nah the echo on DK summit is real, try with DK or some other character with louder yells and the trolley one on Amsterdam Drift applies to any moving hazard. If you aren't at a threshold speed the hazard wont affect you and the gold/metal mario tie comparison was frame perfect! (impressed!)
The game calculates how much of the car was over the line on the given frame it finishes, so it might be possible to get a tie if the finish was frame perfect AND pixel perfect, which is impossible

Yesterday, I was blue-shelled in 7th. Not hit when it passed, blue-shelled as if I were first. The AI was definitely not in my favor, I'd been clobbered, and fell behind. There was a long gap between me in 7th and 6th. Someone behind had released the blue shell, and the first 6 had already finished. I'm guessing that since I was the next to cross the finish ahead, I was technically the first, even though so many times I've been in first, crossed the finish line, and then the play-through has me getting blued after the race is over.
