I'm pretty sure Petey is fake, we know for a fact that Bowser Junior creates the pile of slime plant monster things, which bear a strong resemblance to the other piranha plants. Furthermore, the same jumping little slime monsters (man, I just realized I know the names of basically no enemies in Sunshine) also show up in Petey fight as well as goop piles created by Bowser Jr.

Brown goop tasting sweet seems more likely to be specific to it as, coming from plants, it likely contains sucrose. It being barfed up by the plants should not be off-putting given it's sweet nature as it is rather similar to what bees do with honey. Other goops not tasting sweet does not make them less potentially delicious though. Ink is used in a variety of dishes and it seems black goop would make a suitable substitute. As for the other types, there will always be someone adventurous enough to be the first to taste them.
When you first get to Delfino Plaza, you'll find a massive pile of goo in the main plaza. Cleaning it up will reveal the Grand Pianta Statue in the middle and cause Shadow Mario to kidnap Princess Peach. Give chase, and he'll release Peach but flee into the rainbow M graffitied on the statue.

I think You forgot that the brown goop also comes out of coocoos in level 3 of Bianco Hills. Also think the reason petey turns into goop at the end is cause he’s a goop creation. Once you beat it it turns back into goop and the sun is not friendly to that type, baking it in seconds. There’s others like the wiggles that turns into a sand like substance and as the final hit is in the water it dissolves.
the pink goop spikeballs strike me as extremely similar to japanese konpeito hard candy! their shape is almost identical and they come in very bright colors. coincidence? i think not... personally though their squishiness makes me want to think they are extremely juicy gummy candy, maybe a nice tangy & sweet lemon-mango-strawberry flavour 🍬🍬🍬🍋🥭🍓
Electric goop is probably a very sour flavor, either lemon or blue raspberry. The fire goop might be spicy mango. The Yoshi barriers are probably pineapple - makes sense that it hurts you since pineapple has enzymes that break down meat!
You know, for the longest time, I always wondered what the brown and white goop looked like. I felt it was so familiar. Then it hit me one day. I was having a bowl of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup, and when I reached the bottom, I realized that the melted remains and chocolate syrup looked EXACTLY like it does in Sunshine. So, yeah. I'm confident that's what it is.
The electric goop always reminds me of one fruit roll up flavor that was some shock flavor (guessin it was sour?) that had similar color... I can't seem to find the exact flavor name, but I know it existed!
First, it was 64's paintings, now it's the Sunshine goop. Either ZoomZike's slowly going insane, or he's a mad genius about to argue next year which planet in Galaxy tastes better, and I ain't complaining
I think the original intent was that Petey Piranha was just another enemy that Bowser Jr. created with his paintbrush (the official Mario Encyclopedia also states that this is the reason the enemies look different than they do in other games, and why Yoshis dissolve in water; they aren't real, they're paintings brought to life by Jr), but when Petey became a recurring character, this was retconned. Or the Petey in Sunshine was just a paint-based copy of the real one who appears in later games.
There's a really easy explanation about the goopy Piranha Plants and their relationship to the brown goop of Bianco Hills. As we've seen in many other Mario games, Piranha Plants frequently bite whatever comes near, and are most likely gluttons who love to eat any and everything. (Odyssey is especially proof of this) Quite simply, I believe the reasons they can regurgitate the goop at you is because they are plants of culture, who have partaken in consumption of the goop as we desire to. It's the same with Petey. And when you defeat him, you do it by dissolving him from the inside out, leaving behind a goopy shell memorial to the sheer quantity of goop he consumed.
I would like to put forth the idea that the 3D, yoshi-dissolvable goop is pineapple flavored. After all, they say that while you eat pineapple, it's also eating you back- I think that's why the 3D goop hurts you.
My headcanons for the flavors have always been... areas: Chocolate, Black Licorice, Mint, Gum, and Bowser Jr's own Saliva. I'm certain you can figure out which is which. Misc.: Sherbert (Portals, same as you!), Taffy (The stuff you need yoshi to spray for the acid river secret area. What can I say, the pressure from chewing Taffy hurts the teeth!), Jelly Beans (Swoopin Stus), Grape (Eel Plaque, wouldn't even test this to be true because I don't like Grape), Lime Jell-O (Bowser Bathwater. If everything else is gonna be snack themed, of course Bowser would let Jr live out every kids dream of swimming in a Jell-O pool), Caramel (Petey's Insides. For some reason to me, the goop always looks like a brighter shade inside the tower regardless of lighting. Would this make Petey a Caramel filled chocolate bar? Maybe! I'm not gonna be the one to find out though.)
I feel like the colorful goop might taste like starbursts. It has chewy quality (like gum) and sweet. Or even better, Sherbert! Either way, I feel like it would taste very good
In petey piranha and the goopy piranha's case, you could make the argument that they were actually *made* from the goop and animated, just like the one that you defeated at the airport.
That lava thing yoshi can destroy with his stomach acid can be something pineapple or lemon. Acidic enough to cause problem with Mario jumping in to it and dissolves once stomach juices touches it.

I never thought that I'd be analyzing goop from Mario Sunshine, but here we are. Firstly, I'd like to make the claim that Petey's vomit probably wouldn't taste too bad and is likely the sweet goop the pianta was talking about purely based on Petey's physiology. While we don't know much about piranha plants we can make the assumption that being plants they still make a form of glucose which is known for being sweet as for the colour I can only make the assumption that since Petey has to throw it up the brown colour might just be something else he ate. Next for the black goos I think you are right on the money (squid ink for one, oil the other.) With the pink and orange one however I don't think it could be simply answered by just saying it is gum. Seeing as the two places you encounter it being a.) an airstrip, and b.) inside Monty Mole's cannon that this goo is more mechanical in origin. This theory can be helped by the colour of the goop, while it does look like a delightfully sweet nectar, the swirling iridescent patterns are very similar to the films of bubble soap or a film of fuel on top of water not to mention the bubbles of the pink goop expand when you spray them until they pop implying that they aren't solid balls of goo, more like iridescent membrane bubbles so in my mind I imagine they'd probably taste like soap. And again I think you are correct with the assumption that the two hot goops are various viscosities of lava. As for the last two, they are a complete mystery as they are more magic than goop. Taking away the portal paint as you wouldn't be able to lick to begin with, I can't imagine what the electric sludge would taste like, I mean it's the snail trail left behind from a ghostly manta ray, psychedelic in colour and to top it off produces it's own electricity! However, all of this being said I would absolutely dive head first into some of these to get a taste, I mean they wouldn't be this colourful if tasted terrible right?
Did anyone else think of the substance at 4:12 as boiling mac and cheese as a kid -- with the cheese in the boiling water. I know that isn't how you make mac and cheese today but when I was a kid I didn't know better. Especially as the most notable place I saw it was clogging a pipe on a deserted island almost like a boiling pot.

The brown goop always looked like chocolate pudding to me, maybe with some vanilla pudding and/or whipped cream mixed in. I would definitely prefer that over just melted chocolate, since I don't really like chocolate on its own. Yes, chocolate pudding tastes different from ordinary melted chocolate, don't @ me. I have no idea what the bright pink-orange goop would taste like, but it's always looked fruity and sweet to me. Kinda reminds me of these candies called Fruitella, they're really good. Also, just because an enemy vomits out the goop doesn't necessarily make it gross. Reminder that honey is vomited out by bees.
As far as the goop colors go in my head The brown and white hoop is melted chocolate ice cream The black goop is squid ink (this goes great with pasta) The pink, orange and yellow goop is a strawberry and mango smoothie The purple goop is grape soda The blue and green goop is melted sour patch kids The orange goop is super spicy hot sauce The rainbow goop is melted skittles. 4:13 - 4:22 I'm pretty sure that this goop is like some sort of gelatin pudding with a pineapple (or maybe another fruity) flavor. It ALWAYS and ONLY shows up in a solid form, a 3-dimensional shape (unlike any other goop in the game which is usually liquid splatter unless it's a moving enemy), but it is also wavy, bouncy and almost rubbery, just like jelly pudding. The yellow-orange color gives off the vibes of a pineapple's flesh or the juice of orange. Not to mention that the goop only dissolves after it's doused by Yoshi's fruit juice. Not only is it very Nintendo-ish to need a fruity substance to get rid of a fruity substance, but it also makes sense as cold pudding dissolves with hot liquids (and the juice has to be hotter than the regular water used by FLUDD since it's stored inside Yoshi's hot stomach). One of the substances HAS to be hot at least because dousing the goop with juice creates steam. And we know that it cannot be the goop itself because when Mario gets hurt by it, he does NOT get burned, as evidenced by the lack of smoke and fire unlike with the actual lava goop (this also eliminates the idea that the yellow-orange jello goop is actually lava as well).
The simple answer is that _THIS IS _*_BOWSER JR._*_ WE'RE TALKING ABOUT._ Bowser Jr. is a kid, and what kid wouldn't want to paint with say, melted ice cream? It also makes sense for Petey Piranha to vomit goop, because when you defeat him he melts into goop: You're not fighting the real thing, you're fighting a construct Bowser Jr. made. Same goes for all other enemies that expel goop: they were made by Bowser Jr. to spread goop and get Mario in trouble. Remember, Bowser Jr. hid in Bianco Hills after fighting him first, the first mission is a distraction, but the 2nd mission is where you fight Petey - You _can_ skip the first Shine of Bianco Hills to fight Petey, but the result is always the same: Bowser Jr. beat you to the punch and made Petey to further slow your progress. But what about Electric and Fire Goop? Bowser Jr. is also a Koopa, pretty sure to him, he's immune from the effects of that goop or he's just trying to find ways to stop Mario.
The fact that Petey can vomit up the chocolate goop actually doesnt change whether it would be a tasty treat or not, he's a plant, the choco-goo is probably just sweet nectar
When I was a little kid, and got Sunshine for the first time, I would always think the brown goop was melted ice cream with a bunch of chocolate syrup mixed in with it. We also used to get little pre-portioned ice cream cups from the store, so I would always dump a bunch of chocolate syrup in, wait for it all to get a little melty, and mix it all up, and pretend it was the goo. Good times.
Late to the party, but consider: Petey is a big plant-like creature, and saps come out of many plants and some are quite tasty (while others might be bitter, or even sticky or tar-like! Furthering a connection to sticky goopiness). What's one we as humans use all the time? Maple syrup. My vote for brown swirly goop is syrup or sap! Tastes sweet, but a plant's innards.
I wanna pick up one of those pink-orange rolling blobs and take a chunk out of it. It looks like gummy candy, fruit punch flavor maybe. The blue goop is definitely sour, black goop maybe licorice, brown is chocolate definitely. Fire goop... probably something spicy. Like cinnamon candy. Gives you an Irish accent when you eat it. I don't even wanna know what Bowser's hot tub is filled with. Best case scenario, aloe vera gel. The purple piranha goop from Odyssey, that could be like a nasty, sickly grape flavor. Like cough syrup. Oh, and the pink lava from Luncheon Kingdom could be Pepto-Bismol flavored.
After watching this video, you just gave me an idea for a dessert that can be done. I was thinking it should be called either "Bowser's Goop Cake" or "Bowser Jr.'s Goop Cake". In my mind, I imagined it would be a pudding cake or a pudding pie. Just use chocolate or butterscotch pudding mix or one bowl and in another bowl, just make vanilla pudding. Or, if you wanted to try recreating the colored goops, just use food coloring (don't know about how to make the black goop though). When the cake/pie crust mix is done cooking, take your bowls of pudding out of your fridge and pour the pudding onto your cake or in the middle of the pie crust and try recreating the swirly textures. And when you're ready to chow down, you've just made a delicious goop that isn't toxic and you can eat it.
In Norway, we have this ice cream called "Lollipop" (Not the same as US would think of, try googling "Lollipop iskrem") that looks the same as that bright yellow and pink goop. It tastes pretty amazing, and I think is some sort of Sherbert.

First, it was 64's paintings, now it's the Sunshine goop. Either ZoomZike's slowly going insane, or he's a mad genius about to argue next year which planet in Galaxy tastes better, and I ain't complaining
I think the original intent was that Petey Piranha was just another enemy that Bowser Jr. created with his paintbrush (the official Mario Encyclopedia also states that this is the reason the enemies look different than they do in other games, and why Yoshis dissolve in water; they aren't real, they're paintings brought to life by Jr), but when Petey became a recurring character, this was retconned. Or the Petey in Sunshine was just a paint-based copy of the real one who appears in later games.
There's a really easy explanation about the goopy Piranha Plants and their relationship to the brown goop of Bianco Hills.
As we've seen in many other Mario games, Piranha Plants frequently bite whatever comes near, and are most likely gluttons who love to eat any and everything. (Odyssey is especially proof of this)
Quite simply, I believe the reasons they can regurgitate the goop at you is because they are plants of culture, who have partaken in consumption of the goop as we desire to. It's the same with Petey. And when you defeat him, you do it by dissolving him from the inside out, leaving behind a goopy shell memorial to the sheer quantity of goop he consumed.
Every pianta looks at Mario with concern, watching him dive into the goop over and over again…
I would like to put forth the idea that the 3D, yoshi-dissolvable goop is pineapple flavored. After all, they say that while you eat pineapple, it's also eating you back- I think that's why the 3D goop hurts you.
My headcanons for the flavors have always been...
areas: Chocolate, Black Licorice, Mint, Gum, and Bowser Jr's own Saliva. I'm certain you can figure out which is which.
Misc.: Sherbert (Portals, same as you!), Taffy (The stuff you need yoshi to spray for the acid river secret area. What can I say, the pressure from chewing Taffy hurts the teeth!), Jelly Beans (Swoopin Stus), Grape (Eel Plaque, wouldn't even test this to be true because I don't like Grape), Lime Jell-O (Bowser Bathwater. If everything else is gonna be snack themed, of course Bowser would let Jr live out every kids dream of swimming in a Jell-O pool), Caramel (Petey's Insides. For some reason to me, the goop always looks like a brighter shade inside the tower regardless of lighting. Would this make Petey a Caramel filled chocolate bar? Maybe! I'm not gonna be the one to find out though.)
I feel like the colorful goop might taste like starbursts. It has chewy quality (like gum) and sweet.

I never thought that I'd be analyzing goop from Mario Sunshine, but here we are.
Firstly, I'd like to make the claim that Petey's vomit probably wouldn't taste too bad and is likely the sweet goop the pianta was talking about purely based on Petey's physiology. While we don't know much about piranha plants we can make the assumption that being plants they still make a form of glucose which is known for being sweet as for the colour I can only make the assumption that since Petey has to throw it up the brown colour might just be something else he ate. Next for the black goos I think you are right on the money (squid ink for one, oil the other.) With the pink and orange one however I don't think it could be simply answered by just saying it is gum. Seeing as the two places you encounter it being a.) an airstrip, and b.) inside Monty Mole's cannon that this goo is more mechanical in origin. This theory can be helped by the colour of the goop, while it does look like a delightfully sweet nectar, the swirling iridescent patterns are very similar to the films of bubble soap or a film of fuel on top of water not to mention the bubbles of the pink goop expand when you spray them until they pop implying that they aren't solid balls of goo, more like iridescent membrane bubbles so in my mind I imagine they'd probably taste like soap. And again I think you are correct with the assumption that the two hot goops are various viscosities of lava. As for the last two, they are a complete mystery as they are more magic than goop. Taking away the portal paint as you wouldn't be able to lick to begin with, I can't imagine what the electric sludge would taste like, I mean it's the snail trail left behind from a ghostly manta ray, psychedelic in colour and to top it off produces it's own electricity!
However, all of this being said I would absolutely dive head first into some of these to get a taste, I mean they wouldn't be this colourful if tasted terrible right?
Did anyone else think of the substance at 4:12 as boiling mac and cheese as a kid -- with the cheese in the boiling water. I know that isn't how you make mac and cheese today but when I was a kid I didn't know better. Especially as the most notable place I saw it was clogging a pipe on a deserted island almost like a boiling pot.

The brown goop always looked like chocolate pudding to me, maybe with some vanilla pudding and/or whipped cream mixed in. I would definitely prefer that over just melted chocolate, since I don't really like chocolate on its own. Yes, chocolate pudding tastes different from ordinary melted chocolate, don't @ me.
I have no idea what the bright pink-orange goop would taste like, but it's always looked fruity and sweet to me. Kinda reminds me of these candies called Fruitella, they're really good.
Also, just because an enemy vomits out the goop doesn't necessarily make it gross. Reminder that honey is vomited out by bees.

4:13 - 4:22 I'm pretty sure that this goop is like some sort of gelatin pudding with a pineapple (or maybe another fruity) flavor. It ALWAYS and ONLY shows up in a solid form, a 3-dimensional shape (unlike any other goop in the game which is usually liquid splatter unless it's a moving enemy), but it is also wavy, bouncy and almost rubbery, just like jelly pudding.
The yellow-orange color gives off the vibes of a pineapple's flesh or the juice of orange. Not to mention that the goop only dissolves after it's doused by Yoshi's fruit juice. Not only is it very Nintendo-ish to need a fruity substance to get rid of a fruity substance, but it also makes sense as cold pudding dissolves with hot liquids (and the juice has to be hotter than the regular water used by FLUDD since it's stored inside Yoshi's hot stomach).
One of the substances HAS to be hot at least because dousing the goop with juice creates steam. And we know that it cannot be the goop itself because when Mario gets hurt by it, he does NOT get burned, as evidenced by the lack of smoke and fire unlike with the actual lava goop (this also eliminates the idea that the yellow-orange jello goop is actually lava as well).

Bowser Jr. is a kid, and what kid wouldn't want to paint with say, melted ice cream?
It also makes sense for Petey Piranha to vomit goop, because when you defeat him he melts into goop: You're not fighting the real thing, you're fighting a construct Bowser Jr. made. Same goes for all other enemies that expel goop: they were made by Bowser Jr. to spread goop and get Mario in trouble.
Remember, Bowser Jr. hid in Bianco Hills after fighting him first, the first mission is a distraction, but the 2nd mission is where you fight Petey - You _can_ skip the first Shine of Bianco Hills to fight Petey, but the result is always the same: Bowser Jr. beat you to the punch and made Petey to further slow your progress.
But what about Electric and Fire Goop? Bowser Jr. is also a Koopa, pretty sure to him, he's immune from the effects of that goop or he's just trying to find ways to stop Mario.

When I was a little kid, and got Sunshine for the first time, I would always think the brown goop was melted ice cream with a bunch of chocolate syrup mixed in with it. We also used to get little pre-portioned ice cream cups from the store, so I would always dump a bunch of chocolate syrup in, wait for it all to get a little melty, and mix it all up, and pretend it was the goo.

Late to the party, but consider: Petey is a big plant-like creature, and saps come out of many plants and some are quite tasty (while others might be bitter, or even sticky or tar-like! Furthering a connection to sticky goopiness). What's one we as humans use all the time? Maple syrup. My vote for brown swirly goop is syrup or sap! Tastes sweet, but a plant's innards.

After watching this video, you just gave me an idea for a dessert that can be done. I was thinking it should be called either "Bowser's Goop Cake" or "Bowser Jr.'s Goop Cake". In my mind, I imagined it would be a pudding cake or a pudding pie. Just use chocolate or butterscotch pudding mix or one bowl and in another bowl, just make vanilla pudding. Or, if you wanted to try recreating the colored goops, just use food coloring (don't know about how to make the black goop though).
When the cake/pie crust mix is done cooking, take your bowls of pudding out of your fridge and pour the pudding onto your cake or in the middle of the pie crust and try recreating the swirly textures. And when you're ready to chow down, you've just made a delicious goop that isn't toxic and you can eat it.

The story goes: Petey Piranha saw Mario absolutely devouring the brown goop, so he himself wanted to see if it was really *that* good. He got his hands on a batch, and prepared to eat. He took a slurp. It was the *best thing he tasted in his life!* He ate more, and more, and more...
After consuming a ridiculous amount of brown goop, he felt heavy, and he started to feel a little woozy. Right then... Mario suddenly appeared! This was the worst time to fight Mario. He could barely move! He was so heavy in fact, the roof of the place broke down, bringing him and Mario down. Such a fall tipped his stomach, and then... he barfed the goop out! But it wasn't enough to fully empty his stomach. After being defeated by Mario, his stomach couldn't take it anymore. He got encased by the goop... and melted.
So, the moral of the story is, brown goop is very tasty... but don't eat too much.
