How could anyone say this track doesn't match Daisy's personality? It's taking an object of exorbitant royal wealth -- a personal cruise ship -- and using it for dangerous motor sports instead of for relaxation. What could be _more_ Daisy than that?

For being pieces on a board to give the player a goal, the princesses of Nintendo have a lot of distinct personality. I feel like Princess Peach may have come up with the idea of putting a race course on one of her ships, but more in a "I have something to offer, will this work" sort of way, and the Toads (particularly Toadsworth) would feel comfortable pointing out the logistical issues. Meanwhile, Daisy has this idea, she's absolutely pumped about it, and no one has the grit to tell her it's crazy.

Kinda unrelated but that reminded me of the battle stage in Wii where the map becomes more and more flooded as the battle goes on. I really want to see that kind of concept come back as it was unique and made the strategy more about fighting for the last bit of the map left instead of simply going in circles throwing items around. I might also have a bit of nostalgia bias with this map tho…

I can't be the only one who prefers the original over the updated version, right?
Mainly talking about how it was changed so you could drive through the pool.
In the original track, you had the choice between drifting through the large area, avoiding the pool entirely or taking the thin path next to the pool to get ahead of others at a slight risk.
But in the updated version, it was always just optimal to drive straight through the pool, removing the cool choice that was once there.

    • @jamieyakimets839
      @jamieyakimets839 2 года назад +4

So glad someone else thinks so. Drifting around the pool trying to bump others into the water while not get bumped yourself was sitting a fun way to start the track.
The lack of any kind of hazards made the course significantly easier,'too, dropping into arguably to Mushroom/Shell Cup difficulty.
And the flooded engine room made no sense.

I've been on many cruise ships and while they can be very rocky, it isn't to the point where anything stationary will move around or fall over. But it is enough for people to get dizzy and lose their balance if the water is rough enough.
Daisy Cruiser must be rocking a heckton for the tables to be sliding across the room like that. It's a miracle that the Piantas on board aren't on the floor and hanging on for dear life.

    • @DaNintendude

Also I kinda hope Daisy Cruiser does NOT get put into the Booster Course Pass. Coconut Mall looks cool, but man, if it was a proper retro course in a new Mario Kart, it would've been crazy-detailed and real feeling. As it stands, a lot of Coconut Mall in BCP feels kinda bland and empty. Compare it to something like Super Bell Subway and the difference is pretty clear. Having Daisy Cruiser appear again in a full-fledged Mario Kart would mean it'd become even cooler! While a BCP version would likely improve it a _little_ bit, and make it look plasticky as well.

  • @gameandwatch909

I have something to say in the 8 deluxe version of Daisy Cruiser. It missed some details. The ship horn doesn't honk, the lifeboats are gone and replaced with Life Savers, the cones and stars don't have eyes, you can't go up to the stern, the ship doesn't rock back and forth, the pool's edge doesn't have that decal of a daisy and life savers aren't at the end.
Sure, they revitalized the interior and opened up the left path and I'm happy about that, but this isn't the Daisy Cruiser that I know. It just doesn't feel like it's real. It's just a husk of what it used to be. It was vibrant. The cones had eyes along with the stars and everything. While I do enjoy some elements of it such as going through the pool, going to the left finally and the aquarium, some things aren't the same without those little details of what makes Daisy Cruiser what it was. Now it's just a husk of what it was. I'm sorry but the new Daisy Cruiser without it's details isn't the same.

All I’m saying is that the original Daisy Cruiser from Double Dash is better than 8 Deluxe’s Daisy Cruiser and you’re saying “Because of minor details you like and they don’t have it in the new version, you should cry about it.” Basically what I’m saying is old Daisy Cruiser is better than the new one. I like to think the lifeboats weren't forced on Daisy, she just remembered at the last minute that safety regulations are a thing and just slapped some lifeboats on both sides of the ship and some lifesavers at the end of the track just to make it at least safe lol.
    She's chaotic but not stupid.
That aside, while I prefer Daisy Circuit as a racetrack, music, and on pure nostalgia factor alone, this track easily takes the cake for most representative of Daisy imo (instead of being a shipping-fest disguised as a "Daisy racetrack"). You've got her energy (this is a goddamn racetrack lmao), her more tropical origins (this is a cruiser, alluding to the Muda kingdom having harbors since it's the only one with water. Remember her kingdoms are based on Egypt, the Bermuda Triangle, the Easter Islands, and a freaking chinese bamboo forest lmao), her still very feminine style (evidenced by her whole flower motif)... it's got everything. I hope both it, Daisy Circuit, AND Daisy Hills are in the Booster Course (even if it might be a bit too much Daisy lol), but I'd be content with just it or Circuit. ^^

Double Dash is the only Mario Kart game I've never been able to play. But with all seven other games at my disposal, and using retro tracks as an indicator, I think it's safe to say that this is my favorite course from that game. Such an excellent idea with an even better presentation, vibes, and unique obstacles.
