That might be because the Fighter itself has a higher crit rate than other characters. Depending on his/her level, they can do criticals up to every 1 in 5 hits.

man, this video is great. i remember when i got to the end of the game i would go metal babble hunting so i could get my hero to level 99 then swap the hero out of the party.
Awesome video as usual. There is a few things you mentioned that got me a little curious. First was your Demonite encounter. You said to run from it because of sacrifice and beat/defeat magic. Every time I encounter them and they cast sacrifice or beat/defeat it always says not enough MP. I believe that goes for the explodet spell as well with the Mini Demon. Next is the golden claw. True enough for the quick gold, however I keep the golden claw. Since I enjoy playing JRPG's without taking advantage of bugs in the games, I will use the golden claw for quicker level ups. When I don't need it, I return to Alihan and put it in the vault until next time. So, unlike most, I much prefer the Golden Claw curse in the original format. However, I do like the remakes addition of more claws to choose from. Finally, the bounce/robmagic phenomenon. I discovered this one by luck. It was on the King Tortragon. I had my wizard cast rob magic but the King Tortragon cast bounce before it was my wizard's turn. I observed what happened. It seems the wizard tried to take MP from himself for a second but then his MP more than doubled. Not sure if this would be considered a bug or if DW3 simply goes haywire not knowing how to handle that particular routine. ***** WARNING! WARNING! EXTREME INSANITY AHEAD ***** You still here, OK. Back to the golden claw. I had to laugh when you mentioned it would be nuts to keep the golden claw equipped for the rest of the game, because I did just that one time. It was indeed crazy. I remember that before I even got to Dharma my characters levels were already in their thirties. By the time I got to the dark world the levels were over seventy and I had over 400,000 gold. Needless to say Zoma didn't stand a chance by the time I got to him. Oh yeah, in case your wondering, no I didn't use outside or return either. Now if you'll excuse me, you have inspired me to dust off my NES and DW3 game and play thru it again. I may even re-live the madness and do the complete golden claw run again😎
Watching this game again really does remind me that it seems to be at a much slower pace. And I didn't use money cheats or metal slime cheats or the parry trick, nor was I as good as UCBVG, so I did even more grinding to level up and obtain equipment as I went along. It felt like a slog at times, even though overall the game is great. This is why I liked Dragon Warrior IV so much more. I didn't spend much time grinding, and the story was constantly changing in the beginning so the engagement level was much greater. Progression felt more natural and balanced. Dragon Warrior IV is likely my favorite video game of all time (the NES original) and I still cherish my physical in-box copy with maps/manuals to this day. I replay this game on average once a year, although given my limited time I do hex edit my saves to increase experience/gold so I can just enjoy the game and progress through it without interruption. And this is fine, as I originally beat this game when no internet existed or help whatsoever when I was 12 and found/completed everything on my own. Still feels like one of my greatest achievements. I can't wait for the UCBVG series on this game.
I gotta say, watching part 1 of this got me to pick up this game again on NES after playing the remakes a couple of years ago, and it's been a lot more fun than I expected. I'd just about caught up with you when this one dropped, so I guess that means I'll get to continue following along for another week. Thanks for making these and offering up some new strats I'd have never considered.
I always learn at least one thing I didn't know watching your videos. For this one it was that you get the double experience for re-killing a revived enemy. I always just assumed you didn't.
There is one good thing about the Golden Claw and its crazy encounter rate. You can use it to grind for exp and gold. Just cast repel until your in a place you want to grind. There is no whistle command in the series until Dragon Quest 5.
I've been really enjoying these as I play the remake and realizing how open it gets once you get the boat that I'm going in a completely different route
I think DW3 is probably the highlight of the series on NES. Not only does the game have a lot of different potential parties, along with class changes, to open up different strategies, but DW4's play is harmed by the fact that you cannot directly control most of your party in the final chapter.
You mean you aren't a fan of Cristo/Kiryl spamming Beat over and over? haha. Yeah, that's what makes this better. Also, the class changing is just awesome.
I prefer 4. It just feels more polished to me. I like the chapter system. Not having control in the final chapter isn't great, but I found my party strong enough and not too stupid.
Another great part in the saga! You make it such a smooth ride, it's easy to get comfortable and watch for hours. One tiny thing, whenever there's secret things like the hidden staircase in the pyramid, it'd be nice if you could at least say in the voice over how you were supposed to find it.
I could never get into the dragon warrior games bc I played Final Fantasy first, so that made me biased. Looking back now I wish I would have taken the time to check these games out, bc after watching the first two games of the series, and about half of the third, they are SO complex, and WAYYY ahead of their time as far as RPG’s are concerned. Man I really appreciate all that you do, and all the time you spend for our entertainment! Just keep being you, and I can’t wait to see where your channel goes. By the way congratulations on 100k subs!!! That’s a huge achievement for the channel, and I can’t think of anyone who deserves it more than you man!
I'm playing the mobile version and loving it. Though there are some notable differences...different treasure chests, etc. Instead of the water blaster, that random kid sequence in the town gets you Ortega's Helmet! Which is better than the iron mask for the hero...glad I didn't skip over that seemingly optional part.
It cursed similar to Chrono Triggers Ozzie pants so if your NOT doing a solo run of the game the PERMANENT confusion effect of that mask makes it NOT worth equipping despite the 255 physical defense boost it gives out you can NOT remove its cursed confusion effect DURING battles.
@@veghesther3204 hmmm, he mentioned you can't cast spells either - figured that was outside of battle? if you're doing a solo run, is it a must have item?
For Solo runs yes but that's the only time its useful else it gives out a permanent confusion effect making it impossible to control him/her in battles. as for the Golden Claws it still best to OPEN the chests even on the remakes on the 2nd onwards floors BEFORE removing those from the Pyramid and with the Golden Claws removed I believe it makes the ENTIRE pyramid useless for mages since they can't use spells both DURING battle or OUT of it since on the remakes with those claw's removed healing magic won't even work OUT of battles.
So I like to go (kinda) magic heavy in this game. My party is Hero, Fighter, Pilgrim, Wizard. And yes, the poison needle is SOOOO good for the Wizard because the instant kill chance is pretty high. Man, I love this game so much. One of my all time favorites. I might have to go through this again after watching this.
Same for me, although when I've replayed it in later years, I often turn my Fighter into a Sage for even more magic, while still having decent physical stats until he learns some spells/gets some MP. Probably far from optimal, but it's a blast for me. :D
So, I always played this with the classic setup of Warrior, Hero, Pilgrim, and Wizard. It's super safe and reliable, but I still enjoy that security. Fighters, Merchants, and Thieves (in the remakes) are much more specialized and difficult to handle at various points, so I should do a run with those someday soon. Still, I think the best way to fight Baramos is with copious amounts of ice and fire spells.
So a note about the stat system in this game: each time you level, the game checks your stats against your expected class average. If your stat is below that average, it will raise the stat to that average plus or minus a few points. If your stat is above that average, you’ll just have to wait another level. The exception to this is HP/MP, which are determined by doubling your Vitality and Intelligence respectively, plus or minus a few points. If your class is not a natural casting class, your MP gain is always zero. The original game seems to have a glitch where HP/MP won’t increase unless the stat it’s tied to also increases that level, but given time things should even out. That said, since Intelligence and Vitality really don’t do anything other than determine HP/MP, it’s basically pointless to raise them with seeds since you’ll have to wait longer to recoup your HP/MP gains. If you really want to be a munchkin you should wait until you can’t level up anymore before using seeds, but by that point you’re not going to face anything in this game that will challenge you enough to warrant it.
Exactly true. This really matters with class changes, too. if you change class to something similar, you'll get minimal gains in the overlapping stats until you level up for a while.
How does stat gain system in the NES version compare with the SNES remake? (Talking about the super famicom Dragon Quest 3) Do the seeds in that game need to be saved until the end of the game to change your stats in a lasting way?
One tip is that the magic key also opens the thief key's doors. Also, as you said, the final key opens all 3, but I find it jarring to see you still using the thief key, haha.
Wow, that almost 4 1/2 hours went by in a hurry....... I thought this was it, until I read the comments 😮 The quest just to defeat Zoma is a lengthy affair, looking forward to the conclusion!

love this channel. love dragon warrior 2 and 3 but just dont feel like grinding. id rather sit back relax and watch.. perhaps dw4 will be in the future Kappa
You're killing it over here man! So I have a request... I noticed a red labeled SNES game in the opening to the first episode.... yeah, you know the one. I figure you'll probably do something else before that to keep the variety of the games up (but if you don't, it's all good, i'll get the popcorn). But I'm just saying, I know we ALL want to see you do that one. I'm here for it all, game on!
That merchant strategy still flips me out; they're kinda useless later in the game, but I'd never considered using one just to quickly get a sage. What I usually do is start with a fighter, a pilgrim, and either another pilgrim or a wizard; I get the Book of Satori, and once my two spellcasters have learned every spell, I change one into a fighter, one into a soldier, and the original fighter into a sage, so you'll have both a fighter and a solider with magic and a sage that's really strong and fast. Of course, that will also mess with your parry trick.
Funny thing about Demonites, they have zero MP. This means that none of the spells they cast will work. If I'm remembering right, Errol's souls is freed after you lift Olivia's curse; at least I know it is in the remakes(Checking with him on the ship will reveal that he died with a smile on his face). I'm not sure about the original NES version, mostly because it's been many years since I've played it and it's no longer in my possession. The remakes did thankfully fix the vitality and intelligence seed issues that original has. It will add them into the equation when you level up(Not relevant here, but a little trivia for those who are curious about playing the later versions). Awesome job on beating Baramos at those levels!
The cloak of evasion is extremely useful during boss troll fight, as he takes your defense to zero so other armor means little anyway. Now listen, don't throw away vitality or int. seeds. What do you do with them other than sell them? use them just before a class change, as you lose half your stats during the change, but now you're lv.1 again. So it's useful in that situation. Also INT seeds are fine for solders or fighters as they have no MP anyway :)
only played once. remember wanting to play again as a merchent, 2x goof off. get everyone to a level and then turn them to sages at the same time and see how they compaired. same genders. round out the goof offs stats to get an average and direct compair to the turned sage vs the earned sage. *shrugs* i have odd hobbies.

That might be because the Fighter itself has a higher crit rate than other characters. Depending on his/her level, they can do criticals up to every 1 in 5 hits.
But then again, it may well have a higher crit rate.
@@Jazzypants2007 You missed the point.
@@mountainmgtow5421 That I did. Open mouth, insert foot it seems.
I appreciate you doing these long plays of less popular games. A real for the arts and not the charts guy
Less popular in America, maybe.
Even my cat is excited about a new episode!
Bravo, bravo, bravo. This was an awesome trilogy. I've been a fan of your channel since the early days, and this is easily one of your best efforts. Thank you so much for this!
Yes! Today is going to be a good day! 🐺🔧
So epic. Bro, I'm on the edge of my seat, here. Hurry up and give us the conclusion. Seriously though, you dont have to hurry. You dont owe us anything. It's not like that. Im just sayin, I love it and can't wait for more. Outstanding work, bro.
Yes:) Thank you for uploading. 🎉
Long game, making this episode must have been a lot of work. We appreciate it ! excellent channel!
man, this video is great. i remember when i got to the end of the game i would go metal babble hunting so i could get my hero to level 99 then swap the hero out of the party.
Time has made me forget how amazing this game is. I enjoyed growing up in nes times.
Same here. Exploring these games was magical. It truly inspires the imagination.
God bless you for this ! These are the best guides hands down !!!
WARNING! EXTREME INSANITY AHEAD *****
You still here, OK.
Excellent again
Perfection
Mate you make my weekends thanks
I now have al that music in my head
Great game I missed it I grew up on sega master system
Me too!
I always learn at least one thing I didn't know watching your videos. For this one it was that you get the double experience for re-killing a revived enemy. I always just assumed you didn't.
I loved the Back to the Future reference
There is one good thing about the Golden Claw and its crazy encounter rate. You can use it to grind for exp and gold. Just cast repel until your in a place you want to grind. There is no whistle command in the series until Dragon Quest 5.
I've been really enjoying these as I play the remake and realizing how open it gets once you get the boat that I'm going in a completely different route
Another video, another saved weekend. Thank you so much.
Hello again! I'll catch up on this later but thanks for the good work and dedication!
@@SirJoelsuf1 It might have worked out if you could have selectively forbade the AI characters from using particular spells.
I totally agree.
I prefer 4. It just feels more polished to me. I like the chapter system. Not having control in the final chapter isn't great, but I found my party strong enough and not too stupid.
@@bobslobbins2864 You are entitled to your opinion of course. IV did give us Taloon, aka Torneko, a hero for the ages
Can't wait to finish the second half!!!!
"The Noh Mask is an item you should noh equip."
I lost it from this line
The Wizard has good Speed and The Buffs help in a Lot of Battles
Greetings from the BIG SKY. Again, I had to watch your other video before returning. Took a few days.
Wow, this game is huge!
Once again, love your content! Bring on Dragon Warrior IV next!
Can't believed i remembered what i read in Nintedo power that that wasn't the final boss. I was thinking where is the Ortega gear???
You put some much effort into these videos. These really help me revisit some of my misspent youth, and are such a welcome treat. Thank you so much!
The word dragon is everywhere, and you even day it all the time, so the pronunciation on tortragon was hilarious
3:58:05 A world that wraps around both left to right and up and down would be in the shape of a torus, or a donut shape. Very strange indeed!
LOL the part in Kanave where you sell the stolen Club back to the owner made me laugh 🤣
"Tortragons don't really hit that hard." (Does 27 damage).
YEEEESSSS I MISSED YOU SO MUCH...ive downloaded the android version...the update is cool ..the original is better...but still soo much fun..I just got my sage..did the party of you did...cept I'm male with 3 female.. turned the merchant into the sage... got a second merchant snd droped him off..got the last key green orb and bout to dive into orochi cave..but then got the notice...so now I'm watching this !!!
Taking Kylo to the Kennel.🤣
You're a great storyteller and commentator
Yesssss have been waiting for this! Onward to the open sea
Thanks for the HOURS of entertainment. This channel is tops
Been anxiously awaiting this video. Awesome.
love this channel. love dragon warrior 2 and 3 but just dont feel like grinding. id rather sit back relax and watch.. perhaps dw4 will be in the future Kappa
well done i even love the previous on u can beat video games
An enemy that can wipe your party with a single spell?! That's nuts. RPG designers did not pull punches back in the day. Great video!
Yussssssss! Been waiting all week for this
Thank you so much for the crazy amount of effort and work you put into these videos, they are fantastic :)
Of course, that will also mess with your parry trick.
...and the Adventure Continues. 🎮
👍🏻
Quick note. I use the Noh Mask on my Merchant for New Town. It gives them massive defense in case anything attacks them on the journey over.
Oh man, this is one of my favorite NES games of all time! Such a great JRPG!
I can't believe I just watched the entire thing. Thank you again for this channel!
Special thanks to Rey's mom for all those sleepovers,
I can't wait for the next episode!!
Sweet
Can't wait for the dragon warrior 4 video
👏👏👏 on to part three!
Great timing!
Mr. Biz is the most powerful entity in this game. He deserves his own sequel.
2:02:00 I'm guessing she either only trusts those who come at her with vinegar instead of honey because she's used to rough-and-tumble pirates, and/or wants to feel special for being a female pirate captain.
