  • I originally bought and installed these WeatherTech window deflectors on my VW GTI a few months ago to support my Scorpion SA-680 antenna project. So, this is sort of a long-term review. HAHA! See my thoughts on these and why I may remove them.

      @@StealthGTI subjective ? If someone have a bad. Taste then bad look is good ! But in order for something to looks good it have to be under proportions ! @@jorgevillacis8127 - Yes, "subjective." It means "Based on a given person's experience, understanding, and feelings; personal or individual." FEELINGS is an operative word there, in my opinion. So, some people like them, some people don't. "Looks tacky or "bad taste" is not objective fact; it's opinion and, therefore, subjective.
      I will assume that most Aston Martin and MB owners don't care for them since there aren't window deflectors available at Weathertech, a major maker of the product, for those cars. Too little interest from customers does not justify the expense of making the product for those cars. I'm sure SOMEONE wants them for those cars, but they are too far in the minority to justify Weathertech's effort in making window deflectors. BUT, any car that has an available window deflector means that there are enough owners who subjectively feel that they are worth it. Follow the money. Subjectively, enough people like them to justify the R&D costs to produce a product that sells.
      Personally, I bought them far more for their usefullness than their looks. Once I discovered the noise, they became less practical to me and I removed them. Later, I returned ONE to the car because it's useful there and not noisy at all. But that's my SUBJECTIVE opinion, not objective fact. 😏

    I know this may sound weird to some, but deflectors always look nice on any vehicle. I think they also give somewhat of a more sporty look to the GTI, or any small hatch or pseudo-sport vehicle for that matter. They look REALLY good on yours for a not-so-expensive pseudo-mod. They match the window tint and your wheels too! And yes, they ARE great for when one needs fresh side-window air when it's raining. My wife is one of those "Gott'a have fresh air once in awhile during a trip" peeps. So when it's raining I'm sure glad I have mine for practicality as well as for aesthetic reasons.

    Informative thank you. Just purchased a set for my 2019 van. Only problem as far as the fit is concerned is my passenger side one doesn't fit. Checked the channel and weather stripping wich sometimes gets crossed up in normal up and down window use. No problem there and my Van's fairly new so I checked with weathertech and they wont allow me to just purchase or exchange the one side. The rest fit as advertised. Did not get the window track cleaning tool either as advertised so I'm gonna take them off and just loose the 100 plus dollars I paid for them because the passenger side does not fit and they wont allow me to exchange them. Good to hear your thoughts on this. I'm still debating myself, mainly because the back windows in my SUV are not even. When you lower the window there is a gap, so the deflectors won't cover. Maybe I can find a set just for the front.

    • @StealthGTI

      Check out the deflectors your car's dealer sells specifically (supposedly)... they usually fit best, even if a bit more pricey at times. Best thing is to go to your vehicle's manufacturer website, search for "genuine" deflectors (in accessories) for your vehicle -- note the model number of the deflectors -- then search for prices around the web. You can find them cheaper that way, most of the time. Good luck!

    • @StealthGTI

      I think venting on hot days is specifically what they're for. It IS possible for them to be stolen with the window cracked 2-3 cm. Perhaps open just 1cm instead. The car will vent just as well and a potential thief would have to look MUCH closer to tell if the windows are cracked. They're probably a lot more difficult to remove with such little free space above the deflector. Thanks for visiting!

      When I removed mine, they really weren't stuck terribly firm. The window channel is about 4-5mm thick. Roll down the window and press directly inward, pushing the deflector away from its mating. Don't try to rotate the deflector out before breaking their seal. A plastic pry tool may help, too. Apply pinpoint pressure at one edge, directly toward the center of the car, and continue to work the deflector away from its mating surface as you work toward the other end. Once the seal is broken, then it should be safe enough to pull down on the front to get the deflector out of the channel. Oddly enough, I reinstalled my rear deflectors. I'm experimenting with them... just the rears, though. Good Luck!

    • @StealthGTI

      That's strange, especially the tint part. My deflectors never touch the inside of the glass. The seals on my windows are felt and not 100% rubber as with my older cars. Still, IF my deflectors scratch the tint, then at least it will be in the areas that are usually not visible. ;-) Thanks for visiting!

    These are so noisy at high speeds. I bought a car and it had these. I guess it's ok at low speeds but at 75mph they are more of a nuisance. They also make the auto window up kick it back down as it senses the deflector and auto comes down

      Welcome aboard! I had no idea what a Rabbit was back then. To me, all VWs worth having were aircooled. ;-) Even in 1993 when I got my first watercooled VW, a 1989 Golf GL, I recall a kid in the local VW club telling me "You should fix it up." I replied "Why? It's just a Golf." I had no idea how fun the car could have been. I didn't really get into tuning VWs until 2000. But I didn't really wake up until I got this car. The MQB is simply fantastic! Are you referring to the logos on the deflectors and not the "safety" labels on the visors? The deflector labels are just adhesive stick-ons. The labels are very thin. I suspect some heat will help them come up. I never bothered to remove them. Thanks for visiting.

    These Weathertech wind deflectors make the stick on ones look and feel really cheap.

    • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  4 года назад +4

      They do! The fit and finish are excellent. Keep in mind, though, that they also compress the weather seals in the window frame. It's not an issue if you leave the deflectors installed for life. But the seals will not be the same when the deflectors are removed. I think they eventually swell back to regular shape, but it takes a LONG time. Thanks for visiting.

      It really depends on the antenna. "Ham radio" encompasses a very wide variety of frequencies and, therefore, antennas. I usually have just an 18-inch VHF/UHF antenna mounted. • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  2 года назад +1

      HAHA! Too funny! That's not what I said at all. I bought them for one reason, not their intended reason, decided against that use, then tried them for their intended purpose. Later, I decided I don't prefer them. Using your spoon analogy, that would be like buying a spoon to cook heroin, then deciding that I don't want heroin (antenna coax passage). From there, I used the spoon for ice cream, but still didn't like it for that purpose, either. The spoon (deflectors) works fine, but maybe ice cream (windows down) isn't for me. 😉Thanks for visiting.
