The issue with spoons is they usually occupy historic buildings. I'm assuming you're talking about the Counting House in Glasgow, which I believe was an old bank. That may mean that their cold rooms are quite far from the pumps. I live near a smaller spoons and the beer is decent enough, presumably because the lines aren't that far away. On the fact it doesn't sell guinness in Dublin, I'd imagine it was probably due to Guinness selling the product at too high a price for Spoons' liking (judging how they stopped selling Heineken for a similar reason in the UK). At the end of the day, spoons allows people who may not have a lot of money have a bit of a night out. From reading some of the other comments, it seems like the snobbery you see in the UK towards spoons has travelled to Ireland as well.

Guinness is my first fisher price plain. Out of the macro stouts I have had Beamish is nicer than Guinness. My favourite porters are from Ireland’s smaller breweries. The stronger flavour is what adds to their appeal for me. He can’t really handle plain. Guess thats more lovely stout for us.
I go to The Silver Penny with friends before a night out in Dublin. Good for cheap drink, but impossible to find seats and the app is useless if its busy in there. Lack of music in its a bit strange at times too.

In london anyway, and aside from a local old skool irish pub, you can get a decent enough pint of Guinness. If you see Irish aul fella's there its a good sign. The Mossy Well (no just coincidence 😉) near me in Muswell Hill does a great pint and probably the best spoons in the UK (So ive been told!) Price is about £3.50 just is as sound as a euro!

Diageo is a very poorly run company. I could carry on for ages with examples but will stick to just one. Back in 2014 the boom in Irish whiskey was just beginning but the geniuses at Diageo hadn't noticed. They sold Bushmills to Casa Cuervo the tequila people and since then Irish whiskey has become the world's fastest growing liquor category but Diageo missed out completely. Sigh ! Anyone wanting to go further should ask themselves what happened to Harp Lager.
'Spoons' has its purpose. Not a place I would go for the Guinness. Breakfast or a lunchtime ale maybe. If I wanted something different though I'd go to the Porterhouse!
L Mulligan Grocer’s, Porterhouse pubs and Galway Bay Brewery pubs also don’t sell Guinness. Nothing wrong with that. Beamish is nicer than Guinness but my favourite porter or stout come from Ireland’s smaller brewery.
The wetherspoons around the corner from me. People steal legs of lamb from the shops around the area, then have an auction in the smoking area to sell them off, classy place 🤣
I'm Welsh but go to Sligo almost every year for the past 20 years for the surf.We will make it a priority to get a pint at the Beach bar on Aughris head .By far the best Guinness in the Inishcrone Easkey area 👌

Suppose it depends who works in the spoons. In garforth, leeds £3,10 a pint of guinness but one of the lads who works there loves guinness and knows how to pour so it's the best and cheapest on main st. But I won't drink it if he isn't working when I go in.
The disabled lift that takes people in a wheelchair to toilet designated and designed for them, that's actually a great idea because otherwise other people would be climbing over them to get a piss 💡🤣👍

All I’m saying is that a beer from a generic mega-pub like a Wetherspoons will never be as nice as any beer pulled in a smaller pub with higher standards. Better beer is always the goal and I’ll always agree with anyone who wants that. 🙂
I've been to Wetherspoons in UK and would totally recommend them. Great value for money for drink and food. Wouldnt be a place I'd drink Guinness but then again Guinness is hit an miss in most pubs. Snobbish attitude towards wetherspoons I find.
Murphy's is a far better stout than Guinness, as is Beamish. There are lovely porters and stouts made in the UK now. I wouldn't drink Guiness if you paid me.
Wetherspoons is a free house therefore it has competition. Guiness is a great macro beer but when Guiness has competition it’s fundamentally a poor mass produced stout hence why ‘spoons’ rarely ever sell it because they have better, local and cheaper options that the local community in both the UK and Ireland prefer.
they sell the beer cheap because the brewerys give them loads of a product for a cheaper price. The brewerys don't actually make alot of money off the sales, its more about getting the volume out there so that when someone goes to somewhere else where its more expensive they'll pay it because it they've seen it in spoons. its basically for marketing.
I had the displeasure of visiting the one in Dun Laoghaire exactly one time … they were out of beers listed on the menu … food was super average at best and took forever to arrive and the atmosphere and decor was terrible . I’m very glad Guinness is not served there as it would be a disaster… it’s worth paying more for a real pint in a real Irish pub.

Theres a good range of beers in spoons. A pub that sells cask beer consistently in Ireland.

When I was a student (so 2003) Guinness was £1.09 on the “Monday Club” in Spoons. Can still taste it now. Awful 😂😂😂

The Spoons in the North sell Guinness. It’s only in the South.
