    I remember the TwinAir, but I didn't realise they made this version of one. Most interesting!

      The 105 hp came a few years later but didn't sell in huge numbers. I expect due to cost people wanting more performance will have gone down the Abarth route. It's definitely a car that shouldn't be discounted though and some people do try to seek them out now.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting 3 года назад

      @@markonmotoring , I do hope to actually try an Abarth at some point, I have driven a 1.2 automatic 500, and it wasn't great (I don't think that is much of a surprise), but I am sure the manuals with a bit more power are a fair bit better.

    • @markonmotoring
      @markonmotoring  3 года назад

      The 1.2 is nippy enough round town and a competent cruiser in motorways but doesn't have the urge if a TwinAir. As owners club admin I can honestly say I've seen a lot of post about problematic Duologic transmissions.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting 3 года назад +1

      @@markonmotoring , it was very underpowered on the hills of Tuscany, ironically! They are very reliable engines, but having tried a Fiat Panda 100 HP now, the 1.2 will always feel a bit slow. I am not a fan of robotised manual gearboxes, having tried a few of them, and the posts you refer to them only reinforce my suspicions about them.

    • @markonmotoring
      @markonmotoring  3 года назад

      @@lloydvehicleconsulting A lot of the trucks I drive are robotised manuals. Some like the Volvo Ishift are excellent but the Mercedes Benz gearbox is dreadful and at times dangerous.
      The TwinAir 105 is effectively the replace for the 1.4 16v. Performance is almost the same with the TA being a smidge over across the board on performance stats. The real difference is the power delivery as the 1.4 will be much more free revving while the TA has loads of mid range grunt with peak torque being at only 2000 rpm.

      Excellent, glad you enjoy it.
      I think I may have a lot happing on the Chanel that you may enjoy. If your in France you may like my review in my 97 Mégane Coupe or a friend's 99 Mégane Classic. For your Italian cars I'll soon be uploading some content on Festival Italia where I've just gotten home from in my 500 which was exhibited there.

    Enjoyed the video, shame about the out of sync audio though.

      Hello,
      Pleased that you enjoyed the video. This was one of my first videos on the channel a few years ago and the audio was one of the first big issues to be addressed as the built in mic of a mobile phone isn't ideal for this sort of thing.
      Another video had better audio but I'm mono.
      It's all a bit of a learning curve but hopefully the quality has improved since then.

    At 12.53. I never knew the passenger seat had a secret compartment, doubt it has ever been opened in 9 years, I will investigate later. Just brought 6 speed Blue 2014 Sport Twin Air 104 HP. My last car of four years trouble free motoring, except the duel mass clutch was, a 2014 Twin air Lounge with only 84hp. I was also really surprised to see the 1.4 2014 four cylinder Fiat 500 was only 69HP. I was shocked to see how many features the Sport 104HP shares with the Arbarth as well which makes it a great buy. I get also get 45 to 55 mpg.

      @markonmotoring  Год назад

      The 1.2 FIRE 8v engine is 69ho. The 1.4 16v 100hp.
      The 105 ho version of the TA is similar power but had more torque and lower down the rev range. It really suits the car
      Sadly it was the dual mass flywheel that caused me to part with mine.

      @markonmotoring My twin air was written off in June when I got hit in the rear wing by a motorcyclist overtaking on a bend. I could not find another car that delivered so much fun , so brought another twin air. Been a motorcyclist all my life and even my Ducati 750 Monster never came close to the Fiat 500:twin air experience. Just waiting now for all those faults to appear again , like the door catch and sticky brake callipers. Thanks for the correct horse power info. I am made up tonight as I managed to open the passenger seat.

      @Order4627 I hadn't planned to swap either of the pair of Twins we owned but after my TA105 suffered with the fly wheel my wife's TA85 was written of. She was waiting at a pedestrian crossing when two young lads, a new driver plowed onto the back of her shoving the car into the crossing narrowly missing a child in a push chair, triggering the fuel shut off and bending the boot floor.

    We owned a Twinair 105 and it was a hoot to drive. Power to spare and it could get 63 mpg on a m'way journey. Sadly the front end was crunched by a thoughtful young lady when she turned across my bows at some traffic lights. It repaired OK but I was never happy after that and sold it. Ended up with a Picanto GT-line S turbo, which was a 'nicer' car but not half as much fun!

    • @markonmotoring
      @markonmotoring  Год назад +1

      Yes I know what you mean, the TA105 had that raw feeling that is missing from mainstream cars today. It would never be as refined as many other modern car but it had the fun factor while being affordable.

    Bought one for the wife earlier this year. A bit of a pocket-rocket, unusual sounding engine, but nice exhaust note.
    I agree the seating position is a bit high but it works.

      Yes the sound and mud range torque are an addictive combination. We bought the 85ho version fir my wife ten years ago and still run it now. I bought the 105hp for myself three years ago and haven't regretted it. The driving position suits someone with linger arms and shorter legs. I do have to sit very upright to help with reach otherwise my knees are squashed. I believe facelifted models have reach adjustable steering which would be a big help.

    Hi Mark , how often should the cam belt be changed in a fiat 500 twinair105?

    • @markonmotoring
      @markonmotoring  4 месяца назад +1

      The 1.2 FIRE engines I believe have a camera belt but the TwinAir are chain drivers. I asked a mechanic the same question and was told that it should last the life of the engine. I'm not entirely convinced though as a chain can stretch over time.

    • @markonmotoring

      It certainly does. I find most modern hotbhatched are too heavy and form riding. With the exception of the electronic power steering it encompasses what a fun hatchback used to be like. The engine sound is addictive too.
      This one one of my first video's on the channel.

    hello how do you open the seat like that at 12.50?

    • @markonmotoring
      @markonmotoring  3 года назад

      First you need to lift the front edge of the seat base. It's difficult to explain but you will feel it slide forwards at the same time. Then you can lift it from the back of the base.
      I'm not sure if this feature was carried over on the facelifted cars which got a proper glovebox.

      Yes. The microphone I bought failed to connect with my phone which was being used to record the video (despite having worked the night before).
      I've since started recording separate audio which I then sync when editing.

    • @markonmotoring
      @markonmotoring  2 года назад

      It's something I will look into but once the video is uploaded there are limitations to what can be done.
      This is one of the first videos in the channel and since then I've invested in Bette equipment to ensure the audio is of a much higher standard.

      This was one of the first videos I ever filmed. It became apparent pretty early on that there were issues with the opening address in this video. The in car audio was a little better but since then I have invested in some dedicated audio equipment.

      Sorry that you didn't enjoy the experience.
      Now this was one of my very first videos (in fact my first car review). I realised quickly that my audio wasn't up to scratch and have been working hard over the past year to improve upon this.
      I think if you were to watch one of my more recent videos you will find the overall quality to be much improved.
      Thank you for your feedback.
