Fiat 500 TwinAir 2016 (ENG) - Test Drive and Review

- Fiat claims this is the new 500, but your wife can change more before the New Year’s Eve party. Under the bonnet there’s a choice of two petrols and one diesel engine. There’s the old naturally aspirated 69 hp 1.2 litre petrol, and a slightly newer turbocharged 0.9 litre TwinAir with 85 or 105 hp. And the 1.3 Multijet 95 hp. Outside changes to the Fiat 500 are cosmetic. There are slightly different lights in the front, new grill, new lights in the back. There are also new colours, and new rim designs. The boot still has 185 litres capacity, which is more than the Toyota Aygo.
Prices of the face-lifted Fiat 500 start at around 12,500 euros. This test car with a 105 hp TwinAir engine and extras costs around 20,000 euro.

the. car is absolutely a masterpiece of a design. Shortcomings or not, I could care less. It’s BY FAR the most fun and pleasing in every way car I have ever owned. And ,no it’s not at all a girls car. No car has a gender label...That’s ridiculous. People who buy this beautiful car are people who have excellent taste in vehicles.
Im buying this car in june the owner is italian and he owned it for 7 years and still working so good. Im positive
I've done many long journeys in a fiat 500 and found it fine on the motorway.
I own a 500 and I prefer this seating position. When i drive other cars I'm disappointed.
likewise...I am very disappointed and bored every time I drive anything else. The 500 is magnificent
This car is sensational in my opinion. Mini and Beetle are also nice but not so good as Fiat. Maybe its prejudice but my experience is that 500 attracts nicer people too.
+g00dfeeling Interesting observation. Certainly younger. Too small a pool for comparison in Poland. I see those mainly in Western Europe.
+Marek Drives polish men are afraid to drive "girly" cars
blackcarmafia I didn't say that. I said the driving position and the way the pedals are mounted is more suited for women. They are more likely to be shorter than men, and definitely more likely to drive in high heels ;)
g00dfeeling mini was better but they kept upping the size and price. Now mini is as big as a golf and costs as much as a 3 series
We have the comp and this one now. This car certainly moves, so much character and fun.
I have my new Fiat 500 since one week now and I just love it. I have a 2012 sport before that and this baby is sure much better. I buy this time 69 ps model, becouse I drive short distance and I don't really need more. With a dualogic the start stop got very quickly by only pushing the gas pedal. It is the most charming little woman's car so far. 500 is 500% fun in the city streets:)
Very good review Mr. Marek Drives. Nice and beautiful Fiat 500. Thanks for this test-drive!
i own the previous version 500, with the 1.3 engine(the same as the facelift)
when i tried it for a small trip, i had around 4.7 lt per 100 klm. at speeds 110-130 klm/h
and in general i think it did pretty well for a city car, even overtakes at those speeds was not a problem
That's nuts! Imho, high speed in a 500 is just horendous....Too many revs!
I have owned a Fiat twin air for five years and love it. I now have the Sport 104hp 6 speed . Cam chain so no rubber belt to change, and turbo and Intercooler as standard, plus disks all round. I love it. Most of your observations were incorrect. I also owned an Italian Lance Delta and Ducati Monster 750cc and believe me when I say that the twin air out shines those two,
What did I get wrong exactly?
@@MarekDrivesENG Your observations are something personnel to you and what you like and belive in. Its not fare for me to tell you where you were wrong.
Fíat 500 it's a beatiful car, i have one Abarth and also a 2014 Fíat Bravo Turbo in Argentina
wonderful video great :)
What an excellent review. Never heard the phrase "eco-nanny" before, but it's the perfect description!
I drove the twinair in a Panda for a month. It's as economical as its competitors for slow driving on flat motorways. Start stop had a life of its own, which made every traffic light stop an adventure, with added excitement from the high rev you need to get moving from a standstill.
mipmipmipmipmip leave it in gear for short traffic stops.
This car is very cute. I want one for my first car
i could never meet the manufacturer's twin-air fuel figures because the engine sound was too infectous on heavy throttle to not use, like a baby ducati rumble :)
+altern8ive True that. But in Austria they have enough speed cameras to keep you in check, and all of a sudden the car uses as little fuel, as promised ;)
If only Fiat would’ve used a 270 degree crankshaft instead of the 360…would sound similar to this:
ruclips.net/video/HGajnVFj7R8/видео.html
Crazy thing is it would be even smoother, and have the same power, efficiency and emissions, while having a better sound.
The only thing I would change about these is the crankshaft.
270 degree instead of 360, to get a smoother engine, with the same efficiency and emissions, but with much much better sound and character.
Great review,Marek! I hope that you are planning on making a Peugeot 208 facelift review soon! ;)
+Juraj KG (candyman3108) 19/02
+Marek Drives Looking forward to it ;)
Have you reviewed the new 1.0 Golf Bluemotion? I can't wait to hear what you think about that engine.
+Ben Seaman We don't have 1.0 TSI in Poland. There's no market for 'clean' engines, because we have no incentives. Ford has very few engines, so they had no choice, but to offer the 1.0 EcoBoost, but VW is happy with selling 1.2 and 1.4 TSI.
Subscribed and an Abarth owner.
My 105 Lounge has gone wrong after 265 miles from new. Misfiring at about 3000 revs and engine warning lights on and off like Christmas lights. It's booked back in to Fiat tomorrow. Some forum research has revealed that the twin Air engines are sensitive souls and prone to warnings and disabling the stop and start function at the slightest hint of problems with the battery, outside temperature and other unknown (as in my case) reasons. My last 1.2 non stop start common or garden Fiat 500 was faultless for 6 years from new. This new one going wrong so quickly has got me nervous.
Fun to drive... when it worked.
Great review =) i really like the 500 and right now i have a clio (new model) and i will change to a new car after the summer. I thought of the 500 since i will be working in the city starting from next month. But now i think ill go for a mini cooper instead, or maybe a peugeot 208/308.
+Klas Lilja 500 is small, so with a 208 you're getting a lot more for your money.
Marek Drives Awesome, And i guess the 208 is about the same size as my clio which im fine with. So going to look at a 208 then =)
The main thing I don't like about the 500 are the seats that don't offer lateral support. I drove a 1.2 (65 or 68 hp) for about 100km on a road that has hills, and twisty bits and long straights and it was horrible. I only weight about 65 kg and I was out of my seat for most of the time. Also, the 1.2 isn't really a long road car as I was barely able to pass anything and on some steep hills I had to go into 2nd gear and rev it to the limit so I wouldn't cause a traffic jam. But I liked the design (I like the facelift even more) and I'd love to buy one, but it will have to be the Abarth, it has much better seats and more power!
Ahha where I'm from mini will be more in the 32K range while the 500 as shown is 15K
What a beautiful place...where is that?
never noticed any prob with the stop and go system !6th gear is a plus to the car!It is fast enough for what it is ! 105 bhp engine is a big improvement compared to the 1.2 (65 bhp)!No probs with the pedals !Enough space for me and the kids !Great city car overall !
+Krasimir Dragomirov You don't notice it, until you compare it against others. It's that split second, when you put the car in gear really fast, and you want to take off, but the engine isn't on yet, as you're releasing the clutch.
Perhaps ur right ,perhaps ur right! But if u hadnt told me i wouldnt have known so it is not really an issue imao!I mean i depends what u use the car for ,what city even ..i am in london !it makes sense here i promise u that :D:D
Krasimir Dragomirov In heavy traffic 500 is as good as a Ferrari ;)
When the abarth 500 2016 comes out please review that
+nickydak1d How about the pre-facelift?
ruclips.net/video/DnCdPfEt4Is/видео.html
Very few people watched that. I don't expect many changes.
can we get someone that doesn't already hate the car, bad review
Where do you get the notion from that I hate this car? Have you seen the entire review?
Marek Drives because you barely said anything nice about the car.
I agree, and I have watched the whole video. Also the statement that for 20k€ you can get a similarly spec'd Mini in not true at all. The reviewer is biased a lot against the 500.
I agree you can hear you’re biased from the start
Complaining about dropping a gear or two in a 0.9ltr engined vehicle. Silly.
it feels like you expected to review a large sedane with a large engine and then all of a sudden Fiat 500 twinair showed up.
It's not complaining, it's an observation. Not everyone knows how this engine behaves.
Maybe it just sounds like you are complaining due to the way you worded it.
It is safe to say that all people commenting here believe that you hate the car and are complaining about it. Maybe you don't, but the review does sound like you do. Ahh well.
And just a suggestion, maybe you can do review of older cars, so when people want to buy used cars they can look up your reviews.
Also, please do some special reviews on classics like Skoda 110R, Yugos, Zastava and old Fiat models. It would be interesting for viewers from the West.
Marek,do a Opel Adam review. You the best. Greetings from Serbia!
+Lazar Stevanovic (Zola) Thanks, I'll see what I can do.
Is the redesign the first time the 500 gets a 6 speed manual?
+Eric Glueckert Yes, for the more powerful TwinAir engine.
No. I drive the previous 1.4 100hp model and it does have a 6 speed manual.
I own the Sport Turbo....and it is quick....on the interstate
it's a city car. not for alps tours. is practical, small and easy to park in crowded big/medium cities. Not that I use a Mini to visit the Etna., or should I ?
But as I demonstrated, you can drive it up a steep slope, although preferably with two people on board, rather than four.
I have the previous generation and the back of the rear seats is not bare metal but fabric, like the one on the floor...
+Gerardo Salas Where are you from? I haven't seen flocked rear wall of the seats in Fiat Panda and 500 in Europe.
You get it only on higher models, like 500L ruclips.net/video/j7C7otyCnLY/видео.html
and 500X ruclips.net/video/urypEMoZbTI/видео.html
+Marek Drives oh. I'm from Mexico I think I'm getting the one that is assembled over here but I didn't think there was such a differece
Gerardo Salas Yeah, so you get US spec. Now that I think about it, the one reviewed by Emme Hall had flocked rear of the backrests.
ruclips.net/video/p_Y9dAg0P3c/видео.htmlm58s
Actually I am surprised they don't finish it properly in Europe, because the 500 is supposed to be premium.
I have a doubt: the 500 competes with the Yaris or with the Aygo? For price, if I'm not wrong, it competes with the Yaris, doesn't it? Great video as always!
+Miguel Berghs Price-wise it's closer to B-segment (Yaris, Clio, etc.), but as far as size is concerned, it is A-segment (Aygo, Twingo). This is supposed to be a lifestyle product, a bit upscale. A somewhat cheaper MINI.
+Marek Drives OK. Thanks
it's a girls car so I bought an mx5. funniest comment ever
+mark rent inadvertently so ;)
Tank 35l? I own the s 2015 model and can't fill that much. Therefore, I can drive top 460km per tank
Chances are the tank is never dry, when you refill it.
Marek Drives but I should be able to drive close to 550km I reckon
I don't know how's your driving style. How much are you using per 100 km?
Marek Drives i usually drive an average of 7.2l/100km
Then by advanced mathematics you'll do less than 500 km on a tank, and amazingly you do 460 km between refills. Boom! Mystery solved.
I think he talks crap I have the twin air and it's powerful and fast
Hi..I am thinking of buying a twin air, wondering how you feel about your car a year on?,so confusing hearing so many different reviews on the 500 models, liked the idea of having a bit for power than just a lounge model...maybe a girlie thing!! many thanks
I swooped the newest BMW 650i xDrive - the maximum BMW can deliver to the better Fiat 500.
From Software to just about everything the Fiat 500 is more than the BMW 650i xDrive. In addition the BMW 650 was often in the Garage for CHf 20’000.-and still was broken. Luckily on BMW’s guaranty but on my time I wasted to go xx times to the Garage.
Fiat forever compared over the cheap produced BMW sold total overpriced.
145Nm of torque is nothing? You are kidding, please tell me you are kidding!! VW Up doesn't even have half that!!
My 22 year old VW Golf GTI uses less fuel, you are clearly doing something wrong...
And so did my 12 year old Peugeot. Small turbocharged engines tend to be efficient in a narrow rev/speed band.
You can't say it's a woman's car ... come on. You are degrading the car because it is for women?
Why would you assume a product for women is of lesser value?
Sounds like you decided you hated the car before even driving it. This is the most negative review - strange when all the others I have seen are mostly positive.
Actually I like it, but you seem to hear only the negatives.
Worst car? Your wife can change more times? wtf??
the guy is so negativ!
What a poor and stupid review !!!!
Why?
Gibson299 Did you listen 30 seconds later how I justify my opinion?
Another biased revue, sounds bored with the car!
Drives an MX-5 but claims the 500 is a female car...
don't quit your day job......oh wait.
Bad review, way too subjective.
Please show us a real car not a moped with shell on it...
worst car ever :))))
best car ever
Biased point of view from the beginning and sexist, bye
i could never meet the manufacturer's twin-air fuel figures because the engine sound was too infectous on heavy throttle to not use, like a baby ducati rumble :)
