  • This is the new 2016 Fiat 500 TwinAir and it is powered by a little 0.9 litre two cylinder turbocharged engine. Whilst that sounds tiny, it still produces a healthy 104bhp. 67 MPG combined is claimed and it emits just 99g/km CO2.
    Our 2016 Fiat 500 was in top specification lounge trim and features optional 16 inch alloy wheels and a glass panoramic roof. A 5 inch touchscreen was also optioned. This city cars boot is 185 litres.
    The 2016 Fiat 500 costs from £11,050 but our test car with all of its options came to £17,180.

    I got 60 MPG on a 120 mile trip, in winter, in a 2016 Fiat 500 0.9 TwinAir :) I just love how cheerful it is! Always a happy face :)

      Yup, on a 150 mile trip to Anglesey, we got 63mpg without trying. A great little car. Apparently second-hand dealers don't like them as (they say) the twinair engine is 'trouble', but we had ours for 3 years and it never blinked. The only reason we don't still have it is that a new driver turned right across our bows at a set of traffic lights and ruined our front end.Stupid mare...

    The TwinAir engine is amazing technology with over 730 kilometres range here in Australia on 35L fuel!

    My wife has the 100HP 1.4 lounge and we both love it. Inside Lane, based on your review, it seems like the updates accompanying the facelift is worthwhile. My wife has had her's for 6 years, 100 000km later and very reliable. Bluetooth the only issue. There is nothing else like it - and that's what makes it so special. We'll probably upgrade to the facelifted 0.9 Lounge soon.

      I disagree. You wouldn't want to be a full size adult and sit back there for length periods of time. Especially with another adult in front of you.

      Inside Lane I am a full sized adult and sat in the back for a six hour trip with no issue at all. It is comfortable and with plenty of leg room. I sat in the back of a Range Rover recently and it wasn't as comfortable as the Fiat 500. Looks can be deceiving.

      I'm sorry. You just can't compare a Fiat 500 to an overpriced "up" shoebox.
      There are galaxies between them in terms of engines, standard equipment, optional extras, user friendliness, refinement, etc. The vw is not even a contest for the 500.
      And then there is style and looks...
      Objectively the "up" cannot hold a candle against a Dacia let alone a 500.

    I like the Twinair and am often surprised by the relatively negative comments of the drivers, like it won't be fast like a Ferrari etc, etc? With only 900 cc one shouldn't expect too much. The maximum I ever had was a 1. 8 litre VW and the least was my first car a Fiat 500 (in around 1964). The early Fiat was a well-used car with lots of problems (but it was OK around Manchester, England (where I grew up) and the twin-air is way better!

    We have just bought a 2016 500 Twin Air 105 (in Bossa Nova white, looks great) and I'm amazed! OK, it's a bit noisy and 'vibratey' on pullaway, but once you get it in the power band (around 3500 rpm to 5000 rpm, it suddenly shoots forward and always makes me chuckle! Great throaty sound too. I swear that (within its rather narrow power band) it is quicker than our previous car, a Suzuki Swift Sport (1.6l 136 HP).

    Just bought my wife a mint convertible one. I feel a bit odd when driving it without her in it, but I just have to say that this car does have some real character. It is very unique and both men and women compliment it on a daily basis. It is very slow having the 1.4 that only produces a tad over 100 hp, but I was very surprised how much more fun the sport button makes it. A sport mode that actually works... on a Fiat... imagine that.

    • @Asperaetastra
      @Asperaetastra 8 лет назад +1

      Inside Lane Nah, I definetely dont need more space. The only reason I drive Tundra is because previosuly I've been driving 7 seats Land Cruiser 200 which is great, but didnt really like it, too expensive and too boring, and does not fit's my needs and style. Since I ride mostly alone and I needed truck bed for my stuff. And 5,7 vs 4,6, murica!!! ;D
      My girlfirend riding Nissan Micra, which is also great. But also quite big, and..years go by and car not getting better or newer.
      So put my eyes on even more lil cars like Fiat 500, Toyota iQ, Smart ForTwo, and may be old VW Lupo with 3 cyl engine, which is so cuty ;D

    • @ml9052
      @ml9052 5 лет назад

      Robbae having driven both they are very different cars. If you want class, refinement and more space I’d look towards the a1. For a car with character and easier to park, look towards the 500 (whilst small, the layout and packaging means there is adequate space inside for its size).
      Assuming both will be manual, i found the a1 more relaxing to drive with it’s more balanced clutch action and light gearbox so if you’re looking for driving comfort it’s a good shout. The 500 is a bit more boomy (at least in the twinair it is) with a less gradual bite point but it contributes to the fun characteristic of the car. Mind you, the 500 will be easier to park full stop.

    No mention was made of Fiat's claim of over 60mpg. The 900cc engine is notorious for gulping fuel. C'mon Fiat, its been around long enough for you to have fixed the problem. The 1.2 engine is more economical but slower.

    • @insidelane
      @insidelane  8 лет назад

      +Trevor Hibbert To be honest, the only car I have ever seen achieve it's fuel figures is the Honda Civic. These number usually come from lab testing, whilst they don't reflect real world driving it does at least give a standard measure to compare cars.

      Not true! Real people, report they real day consume on apposite web pages like spritmonitor.de.
      Research on Spritmonitor for the 85 hp Twinar Turbo engine actually reveals 6,02l medium consume,
      see www.spritmonitor.de/en/overview/16-Fiat/761-500.html?power_s=85&power_e=86&powerunit=2while people
      Same research for the 1,2l the 4-cyilnder with 69 hp reports a 6,18l medium consume.
      www.spritmonitor.de/en/overview/16-Fiat/761-500.html?power_s=69&power_e=69&powerunit=2 .
      The Twin Air Turbo actually not only is way stronger but also 0,16l more more fuel efficient!
      Like other modernTurbo downsized engines too, the Twin Air in the 500 consume way more fuel in real word use compared to the numbers manufacturs determins in undergoing the european NEFZ drive zyclus, but at least it seems to be little bit more economical than the lame old 8-valve 1,2l gasoline engine!
