/ @ajrestoration This is parts 1 and 2 of the Kohler K91 combined for those of you who are new to this little series that did not watch part 1 or 2. If you have already seen parts 1 and 2, you can give this one a skip. Anyways enjoy the special.
I dug this beauty out of a bin at my local drugstore(Metal recycling yard)
    She's getting some love.
This is part one of two videos. I had to split the videos as time caught up with me. In the next video, I will finish the powder-coating and tackle the fueling system and finish up the restoration.

Some info on the little motor.
    The Kohler K91 is a 145 cc (8.86 cu·in) single-cylinder air-cooled four-stroke internal combustion gasoline engine from K-series, manufactured by Kohler Co.
The Kohler K91 engine has an L-head (side valve) design and a horizontal PTO shaft. This engine can be equipped with Kohler or Walbro carburetor and magneto, battery, or breakerless ignition systems. The K91 engine used paper air cleaner (oiled foam pre-cleaner was available as an option).
The cylinder bore is 60.33 mm (2.38 in) and the piston stroke is 50.80 mm (2 in). This engine produced 4.1 PS (3.0 kW; 4.0 HP) at 4,000 rpm of horsepower.

I wouldn't call myself an "engine" person, but I have really enjoyed this restoration. You are meticulous - and the bare foot technique is critical!

You do a very nice restoration job. If I may offer a suggestion
Although it costs more , I like to plate certain parts mainly hardware. Paint on carburetors can cause problems. Of course it adds outside cost. I get it. I restore anything from Clinton, Wisconsin, Kohler k91- K90.
    They are Americana......
    Good luck.

Very nice. I have many small engines, but no Kohlers. I didn't know Kohler such a small engine. All the ones I have seen were quite large. Once again great job.

I used to do this for a living, I worked at a small engine repair shop and all the antiques would be sent my way and I would get them screaming. My favorite is the tecumsah long stroke cuz even though the horsepower ratings were low the torque was very high and equal to modern day twin cylinders

Looks great, I never had a chance to work on a Kohler but always wanted to. I like your detail work, I'm the same way when rebuilding. I agree with not painting the carburetor but I might polish it.

I love Kohler engine as the Wisconsin they were hard working engines and lasted long time if maintained I don't know why they paint the carb I cleaned it like you and spray clear spray know I polished my float I know they going to get tarnished but I painted mine with 2coats of clear nail polish but if you run Sea Foam in the fuel system cleans I used battership gray

    • @hellhound1389

I was a tecumsah guy, the long stroke engines were amazing and I had one that was fifty years old and still ran when I put it on a wheel horse and sold it to a guy that wanted a small tractor that could pull around trailers at a campsite

@@brucebonkowski4526 well that's what happens when you team up with sears and craftsman, I haven't bought craftsman tools since harbor freight opened in our area. Also working at a small engine repair shop for years I learned just how crappy craftsman mowers became. I had a 51 sears and roebuck (became craftsman) and it could pull a stump with minimum effort despite its small size but modern craftsmans blow the tranny pulling a leaf vac

@@hellhound1389 yes but Briggs went to everyone from.hardware to Kmart and other but we had lawnmower I running in my business snapper aluminum deck and jacobsen 20 commercial rotary I can strip them down strip them and repaint the push mowers still are the same but mine don't rust I bought new one and with being careful and scrape multiple times the decks rusted in 3yrs and Briggs quatrum were junk I have a Briggs twin cylinder on a walk behind we are going to pull it and swap it with a older brand new engine it having vapor lock won't start after running it hard to start they made the mower like the car high prize but quality 2out of 10

    • @hellhound1389
      @hellhound1389 2 года назад +1

@@brucebonkowski4526 just cuz Briggs was highly available doesn't mean it was better, I would come across a lot of Briggs that would bust the diaphragm on the carb and it wouldn't take too long and it would be back in the shop for the same problem or the block would crack at the valves especially the exhaust side and you'd have to replace the engine. Give me good old cast iron block tecumseh, the block would hold up to anything
