It's great to watch a master mechanic at work, AJ is focused, deliberate, takes great pains to get it right the first time and is a joy to watch for an ex-Air Traffic Controller that had to get it right the first time everytime. There's something about watching the meticulous work of AJ that I can watch over and over again, keep it up sir, thanks for the pleasure to watch you work!
Wow!!!! You did an amazing Job restoring that little engine. I absolutely love the Color you picked! It really looks like it just came off the assembly line in the 50's or something lol probably is a early 70's. Engine maybe late 60's Beautiful Beautiful job! Thank you so much for all your hard work and hard work editing all those hours and hours of video into a Nice video for all of us. Take care and God bless you and your family. Thanks again bro. Hope you have a Wonderful day! -David Cox
I second that. I painted our EY20 close to the original color scheme. However, this shade of blue (torqoise?) makes it look more special, not just some industrial tool.
Hey AJ. It's me again. I for got to tell which engine I am talking about. It's the ROBIN ENGINE. AND DONE A GREAT JOB 👍 ON THAT. KEEP IT UP BRO. GOOD JOB.
I loved the job, and the outcome was excellent. I have to ask a question, though. Why did you use hi-temp paint on the flywheel? It's probably the coldest part on the engine, since it's spinning in the cold intake air for cooling. The muffler should be the candidate for hi-temp paint. Will you be re-applying decals? Oh yes, I subscribed!!
I really enjoyed this video, you do nice work. I do have a little constructive criticism, A little Bondo on the dents would’ve gone a long way, just an easy fill and sand. Also I thought the blue and yellow was creative but turned out looking like overspray, but of course that’s only my personal opinion and doesn’t take away from the quality of your work. Keep the videos coming you’re good at what you do
This is the kind of comment we really enjoy. You are right on the spot with the body work and also the color we chose. Unfortunately powder coating does not adhere to bondo or body putty, although some body work could have been done. We realise even though we have our own plans for the motor it is better to stick with original colors when doing a restoration. A close family member and veteran mechanic mentioned this. Thank you for watching and spending your time commenting on this video.
@@AJRestoration I’ve never messed with powder coating, learn something new every day! What about JB weld as a filler, they claim it can be welded so it’s probably conductive? Any thoughts?
I do about 4 projects before changing blast media or you can say 4 of these small engines. If I strip or get rid of the paint beforehand it saves a lot of time and the need to change blast media.
Hi AJ. My name is David Taylor and I am living st.maarten. I have a engine just like that one that you working on. Can you please tell me where you get those parts from. I am looking forward for an answer. Thank you very much for your understand.
Beautiful job except for that blue/yellow powder coat which looks terrible. Why couldn't you get the powder mixed to a uniform consistency and color? If that had happened it would have looked fine.
atariforever2002 Ok. 2 seconds into your comment and I'm already shaking my head. Why in the hell didn't you post any videos on YOUR RUclips channel showing YOU doing a restoration the right way, instead of running your mouth like a know-it-all cry baby?
What caused the very noticable blemishes and imperfections in the coating? Would it not have been best practice to powder primer and sand between coats? Why also is there so much variation in the coating color? Dent removal if you're going this far in restoration would have added to the quality of work.
To be honest, I am horrible at removing dents, and most of the time I just make it worse. But it is something I will work on to improve. Thank you for your feedback and compliments, I really appreciate it.
It looks amazing, really well done. Just a couple of questions. Why did you choose powder coating instead of a high temperature/engine enamel paint for some parts? Does the powdercoat hold up to fuel / solvents and heat well? I am just curious :)
Powder coating is fuel and oil resistant. It does hold up to heat okay, but not to parts like the exhaust. That is done with high heat paint. Other reason I rarely use enamel paint is because I hate working with it, its messy and it stinks.
After all, you need to clean the piston group from carbon deposits, replace the rings on the pistons? Well, at least measure the compression! This is not a restoration, you just washed it and painted it.
Buenas noches me gustaria poder comprar repuestos de este motor robin yh 15 como son un carburador y anillos para piston soy de peru donde puedo adquirir esos repuestos

About time someone does restorations and isn't afraid to get in there and get their hands dirty. Lol
I love getting my hands dirty.
@AJ Restorations that makes two of us. Dad always told me it's a sign of a hard working man.
Heck man!! It looks pretty "buggy" on that engine. Don't let a spider get you!! Love your videos!! Keep 'em coming!!

We have managed to get a similar product to JB Weld and will soon do a test on the conductivity. We will let you know once we have a few results.👌👌👌
Last time I saw that color green was back in 1996 study hall.
It is a odd color!
Hi bro 👋👋👋 good job 👌🏽 awesome restoration 👍👍👍🔥💣✌🏻🇷🇺

Awesome restoration, but no data plate or Robin sticker n tank sticker. Jest wondering.

I think so too!
That pullcord spring wire would not have gone that way for me... that's for damn sure, lol

Hi, I’ve just bought a villiers water pump motor and would like to restore or update the electrical system, where can I buy these items, cheers.
How more often do you change your media due to blasting paint vs shipping the paint before vlasting?

Just a suggestion, but by the looks of your thumbnail, you need to be reminded to hit the nail, the steel nail... lmao

Hello AJ what is the chemical you use for rust cleaning. Thanks
I use normal gasoline for cleaning, and degreaser sourced from a local company. (gasoline works best) ;-)

@@AJRestoration jip baie. Een vraag. Wil maar net weet hoekom jy besluit het om die enjin se cowling en tenk geel en blou te ge maak het?
Ons het die kleure verander omdat ons die motor vir 'n ander doel wil gebruik.
That cleanup you did over the lawn (oil and all kind of contaminants), it goes into the ground.
Can you correct that or you don't care ?

You power wash the motor, yet you leave all the mud, crap, etc. on it?

Robin Subaru made/makes a far better small engine than Honda though I’m not sure that they’re still producing engines today.
Some motors Robin stopped producing long ago.
