The SPRAYIT Low-Pressure Canister Spray Gun can be used for a variety of different applications such as Automotive, Industrial, Marine, and Wood Working. The one-piece Lightweight Aluminum Gun Body with 1qt Aluminum Cup makes working with this spray gun very easy. The Stainless Steel Fluid Needle and Nozzle are corrosion resistant. The separate and adjustable fluid fan pattern allows you to control the paint flow for less waste. Convertible for bleeder and non-bleeder applications. Pressure or siphon feed converts from internal to external mix. The SPRAYIT brand has been manufacturing quality tools since 1928.
Some History of the Spray Gun
Who Invented Paint Sprayers?
In 1887, Binks invented the very first spray gun for paint. It was a pump that had to be operated by hand, but a spray nozzle would disperse the paint thanks to the pressurization container which kept the contents under pressure. Basically, old-school paint sprayers work like the pump sprayers you would use today in your yard.
This saved everyone an enormous amount of time and in 1893, after his work for the Colombian Exposition, Binks would become a household name throughout the US Midwest.
The Invention of the Atomization Process and DeVilbiss
The modern spray gun does more than just put paint under pressure so it can be sprayed outward. It also atomizes the paint so a fairly even coat of paint can be sprayed onto the surface being worked on.
The invention of this process actually started with a doctor who was looking for a better way to treat his patients.
Dr. Allen DeVilbiss was trying to solve the riddle of a sore throat. If he gave patients a liquid medication for their pain, it wouldn’t be very helpful. Pills and tablets weren’t working either.
To create a spray, Dr. DeVilbiss would use some tubing, a container base, and a rubber bulb to help create pressure and a lower overall atmosphere to create a vacuum that would create “droplets” of medicine. These droplets would then stick to the back of the throat.
Like Father like Son
It would be his son, Thomas, who would take this technology and apply it to a spray gun for paint in 1907.
Thomas discovered that when compressed air was blown across the pickup tube after it was submerged in paint, a spray pattern which users could directly control would result.
This technology was immediately picked up by the furniture industry because using spray guns reduced their finishing time.
What is a Spray Gun Used For?
The paint sprayers available from the 1920s to 1960s would go through some unique evolution. Users could swap out paint sprayers to spray different colors with ease.
People discovered they could use food dyes in paint sprayers, so smaller models were made for the kitchen. Fabric makers were using spray guns to apply fire retardants and other protectors.
World War II would also create a unique future industry: automobile paint sprayers. Many soldiers involved in the painting of ships, trucks, and other vehicles would find themselves able to use the same type of equipment to paint vehicles in Detroit.
This would eventually lead to the development of gravity and siphon sprayers, which would then lead to electric models.
You can spray almost anything with a spray gun including nail polish, tanning spray, undercoats, stain, fire retardant materials, oil-based paints, lacquers, varnishes, latex paint, the list goes on and on.
HVLP Paint Sprayer History
Today the HVLP development, which started in the 1980s, has again changed the paint spraying industry. Results are more consistent and less screening is required to create results.
The history of the spray gun has helped many people complete DIY projects with ease. Have you found the right sprayer for your next project?
Thank you for this I have one my best friend had givin it to me he inherited it after his dad past he was a badass dude I’m rebuilding mine as we speak frank would be proud
Good work dude.
My father passed away one year ago and he had this one in his garage. Now I am going to restore it. Thanks a Lot!
This is a great video , I'm glad i found it . I have a compressor exactly like this one that i have had for probably 40 years . I use it primarily for airbrushing model airplanes and cars . I have been wondering if it might need a new diaphragm , or what not . So far it has performed like a champ . Your video has provided a step by step disassembly and reassembly guide to help us not to have any parts left over after any maintenance procedures . Thanks for doing it . 😊👍
Haha I am glad I could help you out. I still have mine and it works so damn good. I use it to fill balloons for my little daughter. It saves my lungs haha
I am learning so much from yours and a few other channels I watch. The one thing I have seen is how an electric motor's insides look...I had not idea how simple they look just tightly coiled wires....I have no idea ATM just how an electric current makes them work...I will need to look that up. In addition...I went from liking sandblasting a lot to really enjoying the whole process from start to finished...also polishing things to shiny is my new favorite....
They are really simple in design.
I didn't think blue balloon would pop. I love the back ground sound🥳🙄
Thomas air compressor...
I have one just like it
Choo chooo! haha it does resemble Thomas...
Thank you. I admire your efforts to make these look better than new. Regards.
Excellent restoration serves as a guide to do mine! Thanks

These diaphragm compressors were designed for use with constant air paint spray guns and air brushes. They operate, when in top condition, at ABOUT 35 psi. Using a spray gun that stops air flow will degrade and ruin the RUBBER diaphragm. Great job bringing back a tired and forgotten unit. ;-)
Thank you. A hug from Brazil.
Hi my friend! Nice video! Have a great weekend!😊👍1
Beautiful restoration and color 😊
Very nice restoration.
Thank you very much!
Excellent work 👍👍👍 . Thanks for sharing
A really good Job and Video very top 👍❤️👍
Valeu AJ!
Hello AJ beautiful restoration good job well done
Very nice restoration! Love the new colour and that sandblaster is awesome at removing crud from the case! Keep up the good work bröther!!! 🔧
Love the 'test'.
I could not think of another way to test it haha
I like the blue balloons 🎈🎈🎈🎈💙💙💙💙
What a great video! Lots of work went into this restoration and the outcome is fantastic! Keep it up dude! 🍻🤘💜
Thanks a ton!
IIRC the original color would've been royal blue, natural aluminum, or an olive corrosion-resistant undercoat. A number of those units were OEM'd for Badger Airbrush; Thomas sold them under their own brand and OEM'd them for various medical and industrial users. Note the single piece connecting rod and piston - they were really proud of their "WOB-L" design back in the day...
Finally someone with decent info on these little sprayers.
Mantaaap saya suka ini... 👍👍👍😍
I love this restoration 😍
I'm thinking of restoring my Dad's one. I need to use it 😂
Nice job!! Good little machine.
I love it!
Good morning from Southeast South Dakota
Morning Slim!
Jaaaaaaaa....Muy Bien...!!.....Saludosss my Friend.......ji ji ji
Nice restore!
Trying to watch your whole playlist, and just watched this one. So far, results wise, this one is on the top of the pile. You made it a really classy piece of shop equipment. And totally functional as well. As said below, I do much of my own work also, but try and avoid the electrical internals for the most part. Your efforts are well spent on this one as it turned out well more than it was in the original in new condition, and your efforts shine through.
I will remember the heat shrink trick when I dive into the next piece of electrical gear.
I always love watching your video’s. This one was really nice to watch. Really liked the colour you picked with the black trim, makes it stand out more. Excellent job as always much love ❤️
Thank you Michael. I was not sure on the color, but it turned out great!
Super cool well done.
Awsome work as always. Really nice job.
Thanks again!
I expected you to use blue or green hammorite paint but the red is also quite nice. What's next? Are you going to do a air tank? Groetjes uit Den Haag.
Good job
Nice job - love your color choice!
Thank you!
Great job
really nice work!
Perfect for inflating stuff or air brush painting.
very nice job
what have you used as diaphragm material ????
Luar biasa. 👍
Exelente video
Great Work as always !!!👍
Good work🖐🖐🖐
Can this be used with a modern Low Pressure High Volume paint spray gun? I've got one a Craftsman version of this (same principle, different looks). Very, very handy to use when you want to fill up your tires at home. Kind of loud though. Love that new red paint job - makes it pop!
Very good
Obviously a very fine refurbishing project. I like your attention to detail and the camera work. Thumbs Up!
Glad you enjoyed it
Muy bueno...!!! 🤜🏻🤛🏻🇦🇷🙋🏻♂️
Beautiful job!
You gained another subscriber for the channel.
Bravo u paint it.
I did didn't I? hahaha
Hello my friend! Long time no see:-) gret video again - see that your channel grows - congratulations!Greetings 🤘
Welcome back!
Blue painters tape would have stopped the black paint from bleeding on the red. Looks great!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Awesome, loved it!
great job friend
but i have a question
why you didn’t get the fan out to remove the rust?
i saw you just cleaned it with alcohol,
and i think you had to replace the old rings ball( i don’t know what’s it’s name in english)
The ball bearings were still in great shape. Also I did not have a bearing press plate thin enough to fit between the ball bearings and the cooling fan. I I would damage the fan to get the bearings off. Since the bearings were still in good shape I did not replace them. Also in order to properly clean the fan, I would have to sandblast it, and the sand would ruin the bearings, so I cleaned up the fan and stator the best I could and called it a day.
Looks great👍😁
Thanks 👍
I think the balloon upstaged you at the end there. It just kept going!
Well done! 😃👌🏼
Thanks! 😁
Random question for you... are starter clutches interchangeable? Or, do you have to have a specific one for a specific engine?
well done. couldn't make a gasket out of cork?
Nice!
Great Video My Friend
Thank you 👍
Good job buddy
Thanks 👍
Excelente !
Thanks
Why did the screw positions on the back / cover change from vertical to horizontal?
Are you in slow motion mode?!
Sirve para pintar?
can these spray-it's be converted into a vacuum pump that can be 3.5 cfm?
SUPER!👍💪
Dobra robota 👏👍🇵🇱
Saludos desde PERÚ, TENGO ESA MISMA COMPRESORA, PERO YA NO TIENE FUERZA DE AIRE, VOTA POCO AIRE PERO EL MOTOR Y LA viela está bien, rodamientos estan ok...,¿Que puede ser el problema entonces? Ayuda
Is that a red scout trooper???
When I need a flat rubber diaphragm I use Firestone rubber roofing material if I can’t find original.
Muito bom
With a regulator on that your good to go
awesome thx
Good 110volt
Круто
FAST FORWARD the unscrewing PLEASE!
putting it in the oven for 3 seconds like that does nothing! :)
Hahaha I had no patience!
21:10 with Vaseline penetrates smoother😂
Haha wink wink.
Akurat jak byl napis BANG to cos mi w kuchni strzelilo jakas butelka plastikowa

👍🇪🇨
Hope you did wear proper PPE when exploding that balloon. You are living a dangerous life.... BTW many of these where discarded as the CFM value was quite low (as seen in the air volume displacement with the balloon) and replaced by similar sized piston compressors from China. Shame really... nice simple but effective design. Cheers, Ruud from Holland
This man is doing this brilliant work and loves it. Your talking about PPE safe dangerous not used . You are spouting off as if you are The Engineer of all things. No need to give us practical coal face workers, especially Restoration Good guy, do this for that satisfaction only he knows. Knowing about an array of machines, you could most likely find a risk in repairing an 1864 Cast Pedal for Traction 270170. Enjoy the Show man…… put that JobsWorth Manual away……Get Mucky
