This week Lou puts in all the electrical wiring in our shipping container home. Setting this up has been on his list for SO LONG and he finally got a few days to focus on learning how to install conduit, electrical sockets, and so much more. It is an incredible feeling to have our shipping container battery bank set up knowing that we now can keep our home warm, the fridge running, and whatever else we need to do all winter. There are still some tweaks and improvements to be made to the system in the future, and we might have to size it up a bit more, but overall this is massive progress for us.
All the batteries, inverter, and solar panels are from Renogy.
Big hugs,
Dana

Wow, incredible job! "Don't be a hero", I love that :D It's so fun seeing Dana and Max's reactions at the end, yay!
Right!! It's the mantra of the day, haha! x
My partner and I live in the wilderness of northern 🇨🇦 and I can totally relate to the challenges and successes of your many projects. We try to learn and do, but when it comes to electrical, it can be intimidating, especially when it comes to the well and the pumphouse. All those volts, amps, breakers, relays… makes me wish I’d paid attention more in high school physics. Actually, it makes me wish I was an electrician. I am cheering you on with your electrical project… hoping the protons and neutrons are flowing for you soon!! I’m always impressed with what you take on and get done with such confidence and positivity. Ⓜary⚡
Haha thank you, Mary!! Cant agree more with "Wish I'd paid attention more in high school physics... or actually wish I was an electrician" it is both intimidating and interesting and so useful. Thanks for your kind, funny and encouraging words!! Best to you and yours up north!!
I am noticing your music choices and they are cool. This one for electricity was fun.
Let there be light! Such an amazing job LOU! You take such good care of your family, such a wonderful provider, and father! You are a great role model. Blessings to you and family.😍
Thank you so much, that is really so kind of you to say :) Will pass these words on to Lou!! Big hugs x
I used to do industrial electrical. When you said bending pipe I was getting flashbacks. Its a skill I never mastered.
This was such a treat to watch! So inspiring to see you teach yourself & learn on the fly.
Wow Lou is there anything you cant do? What a great job on the electrics and you should be very proud of what you have achieved. Must be such a good feeling knowing you have powered the home from start to finish. xx
He really did such a great job, so proud too :) Thank you so much, Lynne! Hope you are having a nice week :)
wouldnt it have been easier to run electrical before finishing the walls?
Just an idea 💡🤭 you should expand the “patio” area connecting the 2 containers to the third this way you’re not going in & out a gate over to the 3rd container!
i watch and enjoy all the content but my favorite videos as of late have been the lou narrated vlogs where he is building or creating :)
Wiring in conduit is challenging, but it really satisfying being able to see your work when it is done. Nice job. Thanks for sharing.
It really is so satisfying!! Thanks for the kind words, Harold :)
Cheering in CT, so happy this project is mostly behind you. Love the way the conduit looks, and so so happy that you have gotten the bulk of the work done on the electrical system! I always am amazed at your ability to take each project, no matter how big, and break it down and get it done!!!! So proud of you, and look forward to the next stage of building your off grid homestead. Look forward to the next video
Lou you’re a hero even if you do waste a bit of pipe! You continue to amaze me with your patient persistent dedication to making things work for your sweet family! Great job!
“Correct!”
Haha thanks for the really kind words, will definitely pass them on to Lou! Hope you are having a nice week :)
🎉 Lou, you are so artistic and create beautiful work! Even the lighting was beautiful! Like the sun coming from behind the shelving.❤
Looks fantastic. Love the remote dimming options.
Thanks, Paulina! x
The glow of the lights is beautiful!
Such a win❤ Amazing you were able to do this and make it look nice!
Great job Lou !
Had to rewind at 1:54 when Lou started blowtorching a red lead and finished blowtorching a black lead. thought he'd overcooked it for a moment there...
Excellent work, Lou! True game changer 🎉
So impressed, Lou! Excellent work ☺️
Truly insane all the skill sets you are collecting as a family. Will Max become the world's ultimate handy man?
Haha who knows!! Thank you for the kind words, Heather :)
The light looks pretty cool and amazing.Great job Lou .
Very nice Lou! Congratulations~~!
😮💨😮💨😮💨 love to see it, Lou!!!
We live off grid too. We have to replace our solar batteries more often. Congratulations on piping your electric
Incredible Lou!
Way to go Lou! Always so inspiring, 🙂
Yay! Thanks for sharing your excitement with us :) Big hugs x
It looks SO amazing now!!! Been following you two(now 4!) for years now and always amazed!!
That is so nice of you to say!! We are so happy you have spent some time with us all these years :) Big hugs from us to you!
@@WildWeRoam been ridin with you two from way back!! Odie and the 'catch me of you can' sticker and your love of Alfie! And those oats!!! I would follow how you made them and they were delicious!! Now with Max, Freya and your homestead...you two have traveled so far to finally get HOME!
havent watched you guys in a long time. the little one is getting big and the shipping container build looks awesome.
Thanks for stopping by, glad to have you :) and thanks for the kind words!!
Lou you are amazing!
Well done, Lou! Great job!
Not sure if each outlet is on its own circuit. But you only need a GFCI outlet at the beginning of the circuit. Everything tied to that outlet downstream will be gfci protected by that outlet. Gfci outlets get expensive. Nice work.
Thanks for that, will definitely look into it! Hope you are having a nice day, Zac!
Whoohooo! Amazing Lou :)
Congratulations! What a great job!
You guys are so talented, keep up with the good work! ❤
Congrats on power!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Lou really did a grand job and Noah is always ready to help. It's all about making your life a lot more comfortable. X
Thanks so much, Rebena :) always feel so encouraged by your comments!! Hope you are having a nice week x
Great job getting it done! Such a relief to have this in place before winter hits. By the way, is the battery bank primarily charged via the solar panels? Do you need to supplement with a generator?
There is nothing better than the huge sense of accomplishment after all your research and effort! Congratulations! I’d put some Velcro on the back of that remote and have a couple places in the room you can stick it so it doesn’t end up in the toy box 😂
That is SO clever, thank you, Rebecca!! Hope you are having a great day x :)
Yay!!!!
WELL DONE🎉❤
Could you make a fountain out of the scrap pipes where water comes out of all different areas for Max to explore? I don't know if those pipes are safe for drinking water from them but that would be the concern if he decides to drink from the fountain.
That is such a creative idea!! Thank you so much, Michelle, will definitely discuss with Lou :) Big hugs to you!
Your switch for pump on and off are backwards?
We've got a dieselheater in our house. That could be an backup plan if the power runs out?
Thats good to consider, thanks!

❤️❤️❤️
a composting toilet in the kitchen seems like a strange spot
that was a great accomplishment, the lights and all BUT I'm waiting to see you bite into a big cheeseburger or steak...when is that happening?!
👍👍
Whatever happened with the mushrooms? 🍄🍄🍄
There will be an update later on about those 😀
Hey... pipe bending is no small accomplishment. It DOES take some time to really get it. Pat yourself on the back for piping electricity into your home and smile a while. Seriously, though... you may need to add a few panels to your array, I think. I hope that's in the works for the near future. You ought to be able to get thru with the storage/batteries you have for now... but you'll probably need to replenish them faster. Anyway... thanks for sharing this journey with us.
Thanks for the encouragement and advice Tyler, will definitely look into this!! Hope you are having a nice week :)
Where's the bathroom and toilet? Will the toilet be in the kitchen!?
How's freja doing❤
That is so sweet of you to ask! She is such a happy camper. She loves it out here, has all the space for her zoomies and all the things to sniff :) I think she was made for this climate/space! Hope you are doing really well!!
The Amish in Ohio use marine batteries.
As a vegetarian of almost 30 years (I just don’t like meat/fish), I eat eggs/some dairy….. I feel like dietary choices are like religion, they’re your business and you don’t have to explain these choices to anyone. Not being vegan doesn’t make people ‘bad humans’. Go with what is right for you and yours and sod what everyone else thinks!
Thank you, Gwen :)
