Going in on iffy orders, dealing with harsh terrain, climate, and knowing the enemy knows exactly where you are but still pushing on to bring home those who gave the ultimate, bringing home the sole survivor, then spending to weeks to assure every other hero comes home. Thank you sir, for doing for those of us that cant.

Just wanted to thank everyone involved. The living and the deceased (may they rest in peace) for keeping this country safe and free. As free Americans we take for granted the sacrifices of others. As free Americans we fail to acknowledge that someone volunteered to fight for the lives we have. No matter what your belief is if war is right or wrong, it is our duty as free Americans who didn't volunteer (and I didn't) to be grateful and acknowledge those who did with a simple thanks. There are some that don't need it but there is also some that do. It is my opinion that showing appreciation will show them their sacrifices were worth it and it doesn't cost a thing. A few moments of your time.

You can see the distaste the Ranger had for luttrell not knowing where his teammates were. The ranger creed has a stanza that goes ‘I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy, and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.’
Also, the interviewers need to stop interrupting the Ranger mid sentence. It was annoying.

Interesting point of view. I just listened to a couple of green berets, one of whitch was the 18 delta that made first contact with Marcus. He said Marcus’s gps was used to locate his teammates as Marcus had dropped a pin at each location he lost contact with each teammate. Clearly it was i credibly chaotic. Green Berets, Seals, Rangers, and Marines all teaming ip to get there and know one knew where there really was. Also didn’t know the state of the seals. Mostly looking for the chopper. There is one thing in that movie that I hope was complete BS! When they were deciding what to do with the goat herders and idk if it was Marcus telling the writers this or if they just put it in there, but either way Marcus should of stopped it! But he let Axe and Danny essentially say to kill them, and that discredits their honor so much! He's a piece of shit for ever letting that get into the movie, he made his "friends" seem like they were going to murder them! But no Marcus will save them, "you can't kill them that's against everything were about, you guys are a disgrace to the uniform" thats basically what he should of said about them, and then Mike voted against it! Why would you even allow the writers to put anything in there like that? Most of the people who've watched it, believe they wanted to kill them in "cold blood" cause they don't look deeper into it, and Marcus just decided I'll throw them under the bus and I'll be the hero in that, and nobody can dispute me cause I'm the only one left!

She was an amazing lady to talk to. I was able to convey my sincerest gratitude. She understood, and was appreciative, and she said that Danny understood when he dedicated his life to the Teams. It was the life he wanted, and he accepted the risk, knowing the potential outcome. She warmly wished my son well, and a safe return from war. She was a very intelligent and classy lady! X Y Mori Intus
Just so others won't take what you have commented the wrong way. Marcus Luttrell re-enlisted and went back to fight for Americans after he was rescued. He then took his personal time and wrote a book about his brothers and himself in the military, and what they went through. The altruistic action that he took was for them not for him. Please don't get it misconstrued. People offered him to make a movie about his book that he took the time to write. He also took his time to be part of that movie just to make sure they did it right. Please know that that man might have capitalized financially through his efforts and time, but he is also given to the village that helped him and sacrificed for him to get rescued. His wife and he have created charities to give back to his team that sacrificed for our freedoms. And it's my understanding that the entire military, which people volunteer to be in, was his team. I've had the pleasure of being introduced to him and his twin brother Morgan when they were in college. What little time I spent around them and knew them I can tell you this. I was a witness to him sitting on my brother's couch and being asked the question what are you going to do now that you graduated. And word for word he said,"well my brother said we're going to go be Navy Seals so I guess that's what we're going to do". I also remember, like it was yesterday, after Marcus and a childhood friend left the comment being made by my neighbor,"yeah right, they're going to go be Navy Seals." I do remember thinking to myself I knew enough about them that I believed him when he said it. Fast forward 20 some odd years later the next time I see him was on TV where someone did an interview with him and Mark Wahlberg. After researching him more I found out that they decided to do that as kids. That's pretty honorable and inspiring. Another tid bit about Marcus is he spent all the money he had left from the military for his wife and started over. I'm sure that the stories about his team and brothers from the military sacrifices, has been a financial gain to him and his family. But I'd be willing to bet that money didn't have a damn thing to do with it. I guess what I'm trying to say "before I went on this mini biography tangent",LOL please don't think that Morgan or Marcus Luttrell's sacrifices (Dreams) had anything to do with financial gain. And to all members of the military from grunts special forces, they all deserve our gratitude. HONOR THEM
    THANK YOU

May God Bless the three SEALs that lost their lives that day along with all of those who died attempting to rescue them, and may they RIP, and maybe to say that it is "wrong" is not the correct word, however Murphy's team definitely did not follow their training by failing to bury the fast-rope when the chopper dropped it to the ground, instead covering it with leaves and brush, which the Taliban found early on, before the Team even encountered the goat herder and his kid.
A DEVGRU Operator who was part of the Team that earlier had turned down the operation, stated that had DEVGRU taken the mission, They would have inserted 5-6 kilometers away from the target and hiked in, giving themselves time and space to be extracted if need be.
It's easy to play armchair quarterback after the bullets stop flyin however a lot of great men lost their lives that day and I just hope that the head shed learned something because many great Warriors feel that that @sshole was not worth losing a single life over and they could have taken him out by other means.

I don't understand the negativity towards the guys that didn't turn it down. I didn't serve in the military. I do regret not being mature enough and enlisting like my brother did. He told me not to do it because I'd end up in trouble. At that time of my life I probably . But I can tell you this, I deeply regret it I've always enjoyed the camaraderie of working so I think I would have loved it who knows a model not of lasted a day. After educating myself of the Marcus and Morgan latrell Chris Kyle Jocko willineck Sean Ryan, etc. I have grown to look up and respect them I'm guessing you're part of the military. I just started watching podcast of military men. Anybody who has the courage to go fight for me so I can have the choice of not to go into the military because I'm immature, I DAMN SURE wouldn't be able to critique anything that they did especially when only one of them made it back out of everybody on that whole mission. I'm guessing you know the guy his complete background, and his resume of good and bad to speak on he wasn't worth the mission. But hey that's just me I'm just a guy that enjoys the freedom that them great men provide all military men not just them I'm hoping that I'm uneducated and don't know what you're saying. I hope to hell these guys start taking office positions like Morgan luttrell and start pushing for good things because these are men who would know and not just the special force guys anyone who was brave enough to volunteer. I feel like I'm venting here, only because I am sick and tired of people finding negatives this is the very first one I've heard I mean the rope the guy wasn't worth it. I'm guessing you're an admiral or general. I can't put myself in their position them for men of operation Red Wing I really couldn't cuz I didn't have the courage and the discipline. I take it that you was right there behind them filming or maybe filling out a report from a drone to know what they did when they hit the ground. But I'm also guessing that we have to rely on these brave men that granted reenlisted after they get injured and rescued and all that stuff that they're telling the truth.

Oh come on guys I've really got to where I enjoy these podcast stories documentaries and movies about the military although I watch him and listen to him with regret is to get away from listening to to news media social media and everything that tries to find something wrong and focus on the negatives. In my opinion it's just cycling the negativity. I say again I am new at all this and this is the first time I've heard of comments and and statements like this. I can't imagine honoring these guys by picking what they did apart. When something like that happens it creates separation and segregation between different beliefs groups and all the above. I guess the day that everybody's perfect and does the right thing the first time well the robots will have taken over and we'll be obsolete. I'm going to finish this by honoring the fallen and the surviving brave men and women who fought so I could sit down with family members and have a nice Thanksgiving meal yesterday and sent my recliner and read comments about military actions. And I'm going to do that by saying.
THANK YOU MAY WE NOT FORGET THE ACTIONS THAT YOU HAVE TAKEN FOR US AMERICANS
      YOU PEOPLE ARE SO HONORABLE

Anytime you do a link-up with another unit or POC, they will orient you to the area on your map and give you important reference points on the terrain. Especially for a personnel recovery in CSAR, the details need to be passed over to the unit taking over that space.
One of the huge problems within the SEAL community is their internal propaganda about how they're the best, everyone else sucks at their jobs, so SEALs have to come in and get it done. This is a complete fabrication separated from their own purpose, which came from mission creep out of UDT missions, to over-the- beach Recon, ambushes, and mini raids during the Korean War.
They are taught to look down on the Army and Marines, as well as other nations' SOF units, while boasting their own capabilities and prominence.
Luttrell has openly lamented that the Army had to come rescue him. Why wasn't he trained to just see it as fellow Americans in-arms saving his skin, who were also tasked with recovering the bodies of his teammates and the QRF, (which included most of the rest of his SEAL Platoon and Army aviators)?

Operation red wing was planned horribly you never send a four-man squad into enemy territory. You always want to have enough bodies to be 3 to 1 on the enemy. And when they got compromised, they should have detained those villagers and then they should’ve called in and said mission has been compromised. And the statement that I just made multiple special forces guys would agree. It was a bad operation from the beginning Marcus Luttrell himself as also said this.

    • @unropednope4644
      @unropednope4644 Год назад

Number one, Luttrell is a piece of $hit. Number 2, four man recon teams are perfectly normal for a seal reconnaissance mission. Four man fireteams were used extensively during the wars on terror and many operations went off without a hitch. Marcus and his team were conducting reconnaissance on a target which is the reason for the four man team. It would be idiotic and stupid to insert a platoon of seals for just conducting reconnaissance because the point is to remain silent and undetected. Kinda hard to do that with a platoon. Number 3, they did hold the villagers but couldn't make contact on the radio to receive further instructions. At that point, Murphy made the decision to abort and released the hostages. Should he have left them tied up? Yeah but I'm not going to second guess a medal of honor winner. It sounds like your not too familiar with this incident/mission.

    • @Dismay992
      @Dismay992 9 месяцев назад +4

@@unropednope4644 The SEALs were far from silent and undetected. The marines who originally planned Red Wings wanted to send in a 6 man scout sniper team by foot. SEALs changed it to a 4 man team who would insert via helicopter, a mile away from the observation point, alerting the entire area of their presence. On top of that, they left their fast rope on the ground, allowing the insurgents to find their point of insertion and track them to their OP. It really didn't matter what they did to the goat herders because they were already compromised.
      From Victory Point:
"While confident in the abilities of Kristensen
and other NAVSOF planners for their phases of Red Wings, Wood did
question a few of their decisions. First, Wood assumed that their recon-
naissance and surveillance team would insert by foot, departing from
one of the villages in the Pech Valley, such as Watapor, which lay just
twelve hours distant for a strong team like Ronin (traveling through the
mountains, not on established roads or large trails). But, he learned,
they would insert by helicopter, fastroping onto a spot just over a mile
from NAIs 2, 3, and 4 on the saddle between Sawtalo Sar and its sister
peak just to its south, Gatigal Sar, certainly alerting Shah and his men
of the close presence of American forces, Wood thought... The prime reason he brought in special operations forces to begin
with was to guarantee air for the main direct-action hit and subse-
quent cordon-and to do the hit with maximum surprise. With a helo
insert for phase one, he felt, the bad guys stood a huge chance of learn-
ing of American forces arriving in the area before the recon team even
hit the ground-and long before they would get “eyes on” the target
      from OP-1."
Regarding the 4 man team vs a 6 man team:
"The size of the recon team also bothered Wood. NAVSOF planners
chose to insert just four men for phase one. The OpsO would also learn
that the four had never operated in the Korangal and Sawtalo Sar area.
From Kinser’s briefs, Wood knew that each small nook of the Hindu
Kush held its own unique challenges, from the standpoints of terrain,
weather, and the locals-and the challenges of the Korangal area re-
vealed themselves to be of deadly serious proportions. Wood felt that the
best chances of success came with a team of six, as he originally planned
      with Eggers and Team Ronin."
      Regarding the rope:
"Long kept wondering how the four would dis-
pose of the dropped fastrope-go back and try to conceal it as a full
team, just leave it and hope it wouldn’t be discovered, or have two
SEALs remain at OP-1 while the other two dealt with the problem,
breaking an already undersize team in half. Or call for an extract,
which he thought to be the best option, based primarily on the loud
helo insert, which he regarded as a huge neon sign proclaiming AMERI-
      CAN FORCES ARE HERE."
And also words from the Army Ranger in this video:
"To us it didn’t seem like the smartest idea to use such a small team when you had the ability to hide a far larger friendly element easily enough in the terrain, especially given that the JOC had estimated the enemy fighter threat to be in the region of 12-15 men. Our regiment’s recce guys stated that they would have gone in with a rifle platoon in support based on the intel available. The platoon could have hidden maybe 1-2 klicks away and established a patrol base to support the recce team if it became compromised."

But you couldn’t bound 2 of them to a tree and take the 3rd one with you 10 ish miles to the extraction and once the chopper showed up, release him to go help his friends? Or hell, make ALL of them March with you several miles. You wouldn’t have to smoke them, and even if you let them go another 10 miles away, you woulda had that much more time to get help or get out. My take on all of these painful recollections is very little if anything was learned from this disaster as almost nothing was learned from Black hawk down in Somalia...The 4 man seal 🦭 team was used to bait in the rescue helicopter which was the big fat target of either the Taliban or possibly the internationally trained alqiada forces in the area...This same situation happened about 5 times in the 20 years war and like I say, it doesn't seem like anyone understood that the Taliban and alqiada had goals also and shooting down helicopters loaded with seals or rangers was their primary objective...

Marcus says 'to get me out of there was a whole different movie all together..' then he goes on to say how there was a huge gun fight going on above them on the ridge line, helicopters had to make death defying maneuvers to land due to the terrain being so bad.. ruclips.net/video/L5qqrvdBly0/видео.htmlsi=ovFhbH-tE_gpPKAS whereas Nicholas here explains it was fairly mundane, they found him, confirmed it was him, turned down the opportunity to have tea with the locals... and then left the next morning ..

The Navy Seals have a lot to learn about fighting and preparing for a mission inside enemy territory.
Marcus was rescued by the U.S Army Rangers.
What were the Navy SEAL 4 man team doing in the mountains of Afghanistan?
The job should have gone to an Army Ranger reconnaissance team.
A tragic event in the life of the family of the Navy SEALS.
The Navy SEALS were misused for the mission in Afghanistan. Navy SEALS are experts at amphibious missions not suicide and impossible firefights.
The U.S Army Rangers usually travel in a platoon size unit to properly secure a camp area.
The U.S Special Forces are not up to the job because their job is to teach unconventional warfare to foreign fighters.
Using a fork instead of a spoon is the lesson in this tragic situation.
The only lesson I learned about this tragic event is we all need help sometimes, but not all the time.
The Navy SEALS helped the US Army Ranger in Somalia in Black Hawk Down.

I spent night and day researching this, and things never seemed to add up. Now, some people are starting to come out and speak about it. Not to mention, theres actual videos the enemy released years ago where you can hear Murphy screaming for marcus's help..then you can hear Axe yelling, "Help Michael!". The reason Murphy and Dietz were found so close together was because Murphy was going back up and pushed out to get satelitte connetion on his phone to call for help and to get Dietz's body Marcus was suppose to give him covering fire. He used that time to run and hide. Facts.

Marcus was found relatively clean and with his mags loaded. He did next to nothing to help his brothers and actually has admitted to plugging his ears while trying to evade the enemies so he didn’t have to hear his brother’s screams for aid and/or covering fire (included in some of the other official reports). The OP needlessly got men killed and a lot of people suspect it’s because SEALs like glory and valor so they consciously chose to not plan with any support elements with them (they had an SF ODA, infantry units etc. that could’ve been tasked to support them). Let's be honest seals, and all other spec ops guys were not shit compared to Ay Rangers and Marines. They were the ones that did the real work, stayed out for a complete year. Seals stayed out 6 months then went home and trained for 18 months to go back and do what marines and Army were doing day to day. There is a false thing going around with seals and spec ops. Literally they made little to no difference compared to everyday fighters kicking doors in and throwing dead bad guys in the streets. Not hating, but it is true. My real heroes are the Army and Marines. They did not have the air force standing by on every mission to save their ass when they got in a bind. Let's big talk the real war fighters

OK so at 19:00, he talks about the frustration he had due to the lack of info Marcus could give them in that moment. In my opinion give the guy a freaking break. Those weren't just his teammates, they were his brothers. The guy had spent the last 48 hours or so evading and surviving, also had watched his brothers all be killed. So maybe we can cut him a little slack in that moment huh? I mean most of this conversation was spent explaining how much of a kick in the balls the terrain was. OK well imagine those seals had to infill through the same terrain, as well as navigate it on the run while in a firefight, outnumbered. As well as injuries like bullet wounds shrapnel, broken bones. And finally while being dehydrated, and malnourished. So ya, definitely I think it makes sense to cut Marcus just a little bit of slack there.

    • @ryhk3293
      @ryhk3293 Год назад +17

No. You're cutting Marcus slack because you're thinking like a civilian, empathizing with a man running for his life, not a professional conducting escape and evasion over difficult terrain in hostile territory. There is a distinct difference between the two. The primary distinction is that the former is on his own, the latter isn't running for just himself - there's a lot other shit riding on him, which is why there are so many other putting their lives on their line coming to get him. Notably, Marcus thought like you, which is why the Ranger, who thinks like the latter, has such disdain for Marcus's selfishness and lack of professionalism.

@@KevinDiazx11 Some of us live and die upholding the tenets of a creed, among them to never leave a fallen comrade (which both is and isn't applicable here) and another to continue the mission, though I be the lone survivor. Because ultimately, if you are being tracked by friendlies, evading pursuit, making attempt at contact, you are still on mission. Until you are picked up and debriefed, you are on duty and have duty, not just for yourself but to your comrades, who have paid for your life in blood.
So go on making excuses for this man, this supposed professional. Heap upon him your admiration and sympathies. But don't go lumping others into the same boat with him because the truth is I have the comfort of knowing how I would react in moments of truth. Would I remember the terrain features and distance and direction of major events on my E&E route, as I'd been trained? Almost certainly. But then I wouldn't have left my fallen comrades crying out my name, abandoned, to die alone. This, I know.
This is ultimately what separates us. The gulf between you and me (and those of us who have sworn the oath and lived a creed) is in the secure knowledge that the bond shared between my comrades is stronger than the fear of death where for you, it is some unknowable quantity, erring on the side of fear being the greater side of human nature. There is a reason that the average man with an average mentality can't make selection into a SOF unit and you pretty well describe it.
