49 Year Old Skater getting back into Skateboarding. | What I learned as an Older Skateboarder.

  • It's been a long time off the board and I just wanted to share my experience for anyone looking to get back into skateboarding or even if you're new to it. I've missed skateboarding so much and after weight gain among other life issues skating just took a far back seat. Well my friends the time for regret is over because I'm back and loving it. I'm just a little bit older and heavier but with a healthy diet, exercise and skateboarding back in my life the pounds are melting off. Let's connect in the comments!

Just tuned 44 and have been skating for a few years again. Stopped when I was 14 and missed it ever since. Your right on about pre stretching. Hell, even Andy Anderson does for his routine. Great part about skating now is that there’s so many great instructional videos out there. Only frustration is that I still have a 14 year old skater brain with old legs that won’t do what I want them to. Stay rad guys.

Man that’s awesome! Yes it’s so important to stretch and as your older you have to stretch everyday regardless if you skate. I’m gonna make a video about my routine old guy style😂😂

Haven’t skated regularly since I was 17 or 18. I’m 40 now, and my daughter wanted me to teach her how to skateboard! So now I’m re-learning, and I’m so glad to find videos like this, that encourages me to get back into it (and to be patient).😊🙌

That's awesome Bruno, I'm now 50 myself! Man I uploaded my 3 month skate progression video 3 weeks ago and let me just say it's starting to click! Get better my man and take it slow, I know I have but it's all about patients and longevity for me. Currently I'm doing tricks I learned in the 80's when I very first started and I'm just going from there. I can't wait to get to the 90's bag of tricks those were the best! Gotta walk before you run I guess!❤🛹 Thanks for watching, subscribe for more content and tag me when you upload your first video. I'd love to see it and follow your journey as well!🙌

I'm 55 and I didn't start skating until I was in my 40's. Having a blast. I don't have the advantage of the learning with the endurance of a young person or their muscle strength and flexibility. Getting hurt takes a lot longer to recover. I just take it slow and have been learning my limits. Doing flat ground freestyle has helped me greatly be confident on the board. I still suck but every one at the park is nice understanding supportive and responsive to me. A great group of people willing to help and have patients. I'm not even the oldest out there, close though. Skating appeals to such a menagerie of people that helps make going to the park even more fun.

That’s so awesome Kenny! Thank you for sharing, the skate community is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. We are very lucky to be apart of such an evolved group of diverse people.❤️

I also started back skating after a 10 year hiatus. I'm 33 now and a couple months back on the board.
Definitely a slow start, building back up those stabilizing muscles that aren't really used for anything else but I'm finally to the point now that I can start learning new stuff instead of just getting my old tricks back so it's been fun.

Yes absolutely, I got a little ahead of myself and paid for it a little bit. I totally think patience is the key here. I’m extra patient because I have weight to lose as well and nothing throws off your balance like that. I’m grateful I still get to do it ultimately and I’m stoked you reached out and shared your story. Thanks for watching!🔥👊🛹

I'm 38 and stopped skating about 10 years ago. My lower back is sketchy. I can do flat ground stuff. I just haven't done it because I am afraid of throwing out my back. My work is demanding and is not great for my back either. Doesn't help the situation. Congrats man. I wish I could stomach CA because I miss surfing growing up there as a kid.

I hear you with the back man, old street skater here. I’m finding transition to be a little more forgiving and of course deep stretching everyday helps probably most of all. Yeah I have to be in CA totally agree with you on that. But just trying to make the best of it. Man thanks for reaching out! Also thank you for watching!🙏

Skated from 2000 to 2013 or so. Now that I'm 38 I've decided I'm getting back into it. A lot of the guys in my area are older. A lot of them don't bomb 7 stair gaps anymore. So nowadays it's us old guys kick flipping curbs and little board slides.

I'm 33 and I'm excited to get back on my board after almost 20 years away. You're a total inspiration my dude. If you've got any tips on how to get over the mental hurdles of feeling embarrassed I'd love to hear them.

    • @scott.skates

The shortest answer is stop caring about what anybody thinks and that also means your own self doubt. How to set yourself free:
Often times the latter stops us from doing the things that we love and will make us happy. As humans we are addicted to suffering so it's about breaking free of those chains by merely self realizing what's going on and being kind to yourself and letting yourself be happy. Other people potentially shaming you is mostly just a projection of themselves and their insecurities and anxieties simply directed toward you. Don't take any of it personally it's not you it's them. If that's your worry about other people you are just mentally projecting that unto them because of your own addiction to suffering. Mostly people are kind and supportive and you'll find that when you go out. Or just go to the skatepark early with no-one around until you get comfortable.❤🛹🙌
