Sundews should come with a warning label. If you plan to grow them keep them separated from all other carnivorous plants, unless you don't mind them everywhere. 4 years later and I'm still weeding out sundews from my heliamphora, flytrap, and sarracenia pots. I can't get rid of them. 😂

Bahahaha! Very true! Once they get in there they are there for the long haul. I have them pop up everywhere.

good info for the biginer to do everything perfectly, BUT most droseras, at leats capensis and binata are TANKS!!! in my grow tent, between my nepenthes pots, i putted forest moss as decoration with its forest substrat that came with it when i picked it up in my forest.
i water that moss with the run off from my nepenthes pot so the minerals cant get in my nepenthes pot and that water finally runn off my set up in a buckets, its tds reading is around 800 from ro water to 800!!! from running of that moss.
i have capensis and binata dichlotoma and multifida extrema seeds that fell everywere in that moss and it grow super well in at least 800ppm soil and water, very low light condition as its between my nepenthes pots and not much light reach there and sometime, very dry condition as i dont reall water that moss so its often very dry and those droseras are really happy!!!lol!!! but yeah, my (real) droseras, i do everything perfect to them as you, just wanted to let you know that even in the worst case for them, they will still thrive.
i even have open polinated sarracenia seed that grow in there, but they are only a few month old, so for those, im not sure for their futur, but its a test. i also planted a few weeks ago a dionaea red dragon propagation in there as a test too, but as i tought the lack of light is begining to turn them green, but it grow well too for the moment. i love doiing test when it dont cost a thing and have plenty of seed and propagation that i dont mind to lose, next test will probably be a nepenthes rebecca sopers on the table, no pot, in live sphagnum moss that receive some run off from that forest moss to see how they react so maybe one day ill just have a big table filled of substrate and moss with all my plants in there, but no pots, like if all my plants live on an artiificial peice of land...

@@Carnivorousplanthelp kinda were im goiing, i currently have praying mantis living free in my tent and i bought 2 culture of flyless fly that is in the open to get hunted, some mantis get eaten by my plants, but not much, but the fly get eaten like crazy by the mantis and plants. ill probably introduce bigger insect to hunt soon, my mantis are still growing...
but had to get my droseras out of there and those growing in the moss is wiped dry everyday because all the mantis were getting caught in the droseras...lol! but now as the grew, they are becoming strong enough to be able to free them self from the droseras.

So when I buy peat moss in the big bags do I need to wash/rinse it first?

No need to rinse it. However, you will want to soak it before use because it is very hydrophobic at first. If you try to add water to it already potted it will make a mess. I usually put it in a bowl or container and add water. Let us sit for a bit and then mix it. Once the water soaks in, I add the perlite. Word of advice. Add the perlite outside. It puts out a powder that will ruin your day if you inhale it too much.

Just out of curiosity, you said water from an AC unit? Would there be no worries about heavy metals like copper?
Im not a HVAC guy, so i have no clue. I'm just curious. 🙃

The drainage off the compressor should be good but you’re right, if it is coming out out copper pipes that would be bad. I know the compressor coils are copper. Not sure if the condensation leaches minerals. I have heard a lot of folks using it but it would be best to check it with a TDS meter especially if you have Venus fly traps. I use the water from a dehumidifier and that works great!
