A violin has strings
A fiddle has strangs
A variation on that is: the difference between a violin and a fiddle is that no one cares if you spill beer on a fiddle.
I was going to say the same thing!
Your reply, what I've always grew up with. But I've read that blue grass players would use much thicker strings, and classical would use thinner ones, technicalities lol! Peace from Northern Michigan
@@russallert Hah! Spill beer on Alison Krauss' fiddle and see what happens. 😆
And I'd told BlackPegaPebbles on his Charlie Daniel's reaction. Charlie is good but check Out Lindsey Stirling!!! Crystallize original full song. Elements Or Master of Tides Live with UAE Boom team.
How wonderful it is that the younger generations can still discover this timeless hit, and appreciate the amazing skill of this great musician. RIP, Charlie Daniels.
You got that right. Charlie and Robby Steinhardt are the greatest fiddle players. Maybe its the beard lol but almost 50 years later young people are still loving it and the reaction is priceless
I’m gonna add here for Joe E, and for anyone watching who might not already know :
During Johnny’s part of the fiddle playing bet, the lyrics which seem to “not make sense” is actually Johnny calling out the titles of the songs he’s playing:
“Fire On the Mountain”
“Devil’s in The House of the Rising Sun”
“Chicken in the Breadpan”
“Granny Does Your Dog Bite”
The implication being is that Johnny is playing classic old-time fiddle tunes back to back without taking breaks or messing up - a prodigious feat of skill and stamina !
Thanks for that information
That is a great explanation
Wow thanks for that info! I've loved this song for years and never knew that.
To add to that, the music the devil plays isn't very technical or even hard to play. It's full of fills and very flashy, nowhere near as complex or impressive as Johnny's part.
An important note is the lyrics he used during Johnny's chorus. They are lyrics to traditional songs. The devil had a modern sound and Johnny beat him by going back to the traditional folk songs of his heritage. Your best weapon against temptation is the wisdom you have learned from your elders.
When this first aired, it was an instant hit. Blew up the airwaves. I don't think anyone had heard fiddle like that before.
they did have to record a second version for radio play. Replaces son of a bit*h with son of a gun
Trivia, fiddle = violin. The difference is how they are played.
Also trivia, where I grew up, this song was banned because of the content.
that was the best reaction to this song I have EVER seen. Joee gets it
Same instrument. It's a violin in the orchestra. It's a "fiddle" in a country band. Yes, that's Charlie Daniels. RIP.
Before this one, Charlie was probably best known for "Long Haired Country Boy". "Uneasy Rider" (coincidentally? there was an iconic movie titled "Easy Rider") is a clever story about culture clash. "Still In Saigon" about coming home. "The Legend Of Wooley Swamp" - be careful. "In America" - don't count us out. Charlie did good stuff.
Same instrument...fiddle have different bridge.
This is an older video he hadn't released, he's since reacted to Simple Man and Uneasy Rider
Still in Siagon is my favorite
violin has strings, a fiddle has strangs. A violin sings, a fiddle dances.
It does depend on the style of the instrument as well. A violin can be used as a fiddle but a fiddle, fiddle does not have a chin rest.
I love it when you introduce people to this song!
I cried the day the big man layed his fiddle down for the last time. A heartbreaking day for music 🎻
Don't know what's more fun to watch. Your guest reaction or you reacting to your guest reaction.
There's nothing like the 60's and 70's in music. We were spoiled. R.I.P. Charlie Daniels.
It's always fun to see BP introduce CDB to a newbie!
Now show him the follow-up "The Devil Came Back to Georgia" with Johnny Cash as the preacher man!
With Joe E being a videographer he will probably appreciate this video as well as the song!
Yes!!
That song isn't that good and I'm a big CDB and and huge Travis Tritt fan
Charlie Daniels - Still In Siagon is a must to get into PTSD for a Vietnam Vet
The musicianship of bands in the 70's was incredible. And such a diversity of styles of music and songs. Creativity extraordinaire! What's interesting to me when watching reactors is how detailed they get in analyzing each song. When it came out and I was in my late teens and 20's we just enjoyed it. I don't remember ever discussing lyrics, though I'm sure we did occasionally.
The 70's was spitting out great music faster than our brains could consume it!😂😂
We were so privileged back then.
Great music is so timeless. It doesnt matter who you are, what you are, or when you are, good music is good music.
You and Joe E need to do Long Black Train by Josh Turner together. The lyrics, his voice and the symbolism in the video is something you both would love!
Especially with your Christian and musical background B
🙄
The legend of wooley swamp is another story that Charlie sings that will give your spine chills
We saw him in concert and they sound exactly the same as in the studio, they were amazing! And Charlie would have that bow in shreds by the end of the concert, he would have broken strings hanging off of it by the time he was finished!❤️ And Charlie was a patriot of the USA.
I have met Charlie a few times, and he is kind. He was in music for over 40 years
Had an opportunity to see Daniels perform live in the 90's where he also played this song. His rendition that day Included a number of extra riffs beyond what you'd hear in the normal version, almost as though it were an extended jam session. Let me tell you, I was absolutely blown away by the performance and I still don't think I've seen anything like it ever since. And You guys are totally on point about Charlie's fiddling talents. The things he could do with that instrument were simply unreal. He literally could play the strings in such away that it actually sounded as though the devil were laughing. What a tremendous performer and talent he was. RIP Charlie
I grew up in the same town Charlie lived, Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. I was in Jr. High around the time this came out. Mt. Juliet would have Charlie Daniels Day and he would give a full concert at our school.
Can we talk about the balls that’s required to say you can outplay the devil, that your the best that’s ever been, record it then send it out to the public?
This is at least the 8th time this videos been on the channel I love it 😂😂
I know, and I watch them all. Lol! I heard that song when it came out, and it still brings the heat today!
I absolutely love that the *electric guitar* is the "Devil's fiddle".
70’s rock music was unbelievable! But my folks were from the south, so I heard all the greats. I love Charlie Daniels!
Y'all are a hoot. I loved watching Joey's facial expressions. Priceless. I was a teen when this came out and more of a Led Zeppelin/Aerosmith rocker, but everyone, literally everyone knew this song. Charlie Daniels was legendary even back then. There are just some who transcend boundaries. Can't wait for Simple Man. Another classic, but that was Lynyrd Skynyrd. I danced with my son at his wedding for the Mother-Son dance to Simple Man.
charlie daniels is a legend theres no better fiddler then ol charlie
Charlie Daniels Band has another Country Rap story just as epic as this one. Try "Uneasy Rider". You'll love it! Edited : I see you've already reacted to it. CDB is a national treasure.
Love this reaction!!! Thanks Black Pegasus you da man.
I graduated from high school in '77...I got to live it ❣️we had the best real, live no fake crap MUSIC 😉🥰
Dude - your brutha there was kick ass. I love seeing anybody get excited over music of any kind. Music will never die. I'd love to see him for more as he's very interactive and responsive. Keep up the great content!
I loved the instant fascination that was on Joe's face from the second the fiddle started.
Legend of Woolly Swamp is my personal favorite. It can still give me chills.
BP needs to do it for a Halloween episode this year!
A violin has strings. A fiddle has STRANGS!
Still in Saigon by CBD was one of the most important songs of the early 80s because it dealt head-on with what Vietnam vets were dealing with, but the stuff the mainstream media were afraid to ever talk about. It's genuinely a song that saved a lot of lives. And it's a great song as well.
I absolutely loved his reaction
I was born and raised in Tennessee, I grew up, listening to Charlie Daniels, a fellow Tennesseean. He was such a gifted musician, and a great American
This is an awesome reaction! He was so into not only the music itself but the story!
Joe E looked like he was on a roller coaster ride! Loved it and great reaction!
Charlie D was the man. Rip 🙏
You forgot to tag your friend in the description! You both were great...what a dope reaction.
There is a follow up video to this one, it is called "The Devil went back to Georgia" featuring Travis Tritt and Johnny Cash. it is really good too.
This is a very awesome song. Charlie Daniels Band is incredible! Love your reactions!
I never knew a violin/fiddle could be such a versatile instrument to play until I heard Charlie Daniels play it. He was a master
I saw Charlie in concert back in the late 80's. The guy was on fire! I also saw him give an unannounced concert in a city park one time. His bus pulled up and he came out and told folks he would set up and play for free. The guy was an incredible musician and good human.
Violins use gut strings .. fiddles use metal strings.
I recommend Allison Krauss and the Union Station Band .. intro to Bluegrass
That Big Trouble/Back To the Future shirt is FIRE!
One of the best reactions I've seen. Totally vibed, got it, no judgement, just appreciation for the skill and the music! *Aplause*
Best concert i every went to
There is a part two to this called the devil goes back to Georgia with Johnny cash. Totally different crew does it and the story is more intense
I've often considered Charlie Daniels to be the first white rapper because of this song. It's a great story. It's told well. Really kills it too. This is his most we'll known song and for good reason. It
He raps. He shreds. It's fire.
BP, my dad & Charlie were good friends for 45+ years after they came back from Vietnam. I grew up backstage at most of these shows & Charlie is a true man of the people. RIP Big Daddy 🤘🏻🔥🍻
“Bobby Boucher, don’t you know your momma invented the fiddle? Charlie Daniels is the Debbil!” 🤣🤣 this song came out when I was maybe 10 or so but now, every time I hear it, I think of Mama Boucher in The Waterboy.
Charlie was an amazing musician and even more impressive human. Really miss his music.
I enjoyed both of you!! Thank you for the smiles and giggles ❤
Also think of it as country Rap from back in the 70's. this is just so CLASSIC.. RIP Charlie
Amazing to see the enthusiasm both of you have. The world needs more open minds and open hearts.
I just love how music can bring all of us together!! ❤
My dad met Charlie Daniels when he came to the church my parents were going to. He said he was a friendly guy and he got to shake his hand. Rest in Peace Charlie Daniels.
Charlie would shread that bow sometimes several times during the concerts 😉
One of my favorite reactions
Oh Hell - o. 🔥🔥🔥
Ain't no school
Like the old school 💯‼️💯
I saw Charlie Daniels Band. They were the best. Charlie Daniels is the best on the Fiddle and the violin. RIP ❤️🙏
I have watched you react to this video three times now, twice introducing it to other artists and have loved it each time. Both their reactions and yours to both the song and their reactions. Thank you for sharing and honoring this amazing man and band.
I loved this entire reaction video! It was great! So awesome to see him introduced to such a legend and have his world shook!
A newer generation admiring these old songs is so exciting to see. Love it!
The legend of wolly swamp is my favorite Charlie Daniels song. Guy was a legend
This is the most fun I've had watching a reaction to this song in a long time. Thank you, gentlemen!
Why do I LOVE seeing you watch this! It was always playing on the radio and we knew every word. Such a classic, I thought everyone must have heard it growing up. Thanks Joe E for your appreciation! ❤️
The version on the radio had a little tamer name calling of the Devil , " son of a gun " instead of " son of a bitch " . The latter , and all you hear now , was at the time only for the bars and concerts .
@@alanjones3874I was young when this song came out and on the radio here they said son of a bitch. I’m not a fan of this type of music but listen to it just because it said son of a bitch lol.
Charlie rocked that fiddle, Country style, with some Rap thrown in!
Great reaction again..
Yessir!!!
Never seen u react with this guy before! He is hilarious! Loved him! Glad u have turned on some of ur friends to Charlie Daniels Band! Keep up the great reactions! Oh and btw, ur new daughter is gorgeous! He had ALOT of other hits but this was his biggest hit!
So much fun watching you share that song. You were enjoying his reaction as much as hearing the song again.
This was an excellent reaction !!
Love you guys . RIP Charlie.
Its awesome when you react to a new song ir artist then share them with your peeps👍👍much props bro👍👍
I saw him play a few years ago and he is just as good as ever
Omg, I freaking love when y’all work together reacting to something or just talking to each other the communication and vibe I get is so great the respect both ways just oozes.. love love love 💕
Charlie was great in concert! I saw him in Georgia btw!
I love his reaction through the entire video
The difference is a Violin has Strings and a fiddle has Strangs. Love your channel.
I think Charlie would have loved your guys reaction! RIP Charlie Daniels
C.D.B. has many songs like this that tell seemingly very persinal stories such as "Still in Saigon", "Legend of Wooly Swamp", "Uneasy Rider", and a song that's gonna resonate today just as much as it did when they wrote it "South Is Gonna Do It Again" but for that it's the country as a whole in my opinion. It's understandable why they became so iconic and had continued to tour up until Charlie's passing. R.I.P CD
Saw Charlie at the Jacksonville Coliseum, since demolished, in the early 80's. It was good.
Charlie does a fantastic Simple Man and Upchurch did his version. Both are perfect and your ears and brain will enjoy ❤❤❤
B.P. i have watched over 1,000 reaction videos thru the years and you are by far my favorite! i watch your original reaction to this at least once a week!! i was thoroughly entertained by you and continue do to so!!
i love how you're sharing this song with your friends!! please keep it up!!
I'll watch you as long as you keep on keepin' on!!
more Home Free, too, please!!
lots of love, B.P., from Linda!
Its way Its tuned and played that determines whether it's being played as a violin vs fiddle.
It says a lot that after you reacted to this song you bring in other brothers to check it out also......that what good music does!!!
Great reaction!!! I love watching BP introduce newbies to music they've never heard...thanks for keeping the music alive!!!🎶🔥✌
I so love this!! I grew up on these kinds of tunes. Love love LOVE your reaction and when you show others. Your reaction to his reaction is how i feel watching you! Love you B.P.!! Keep doing original content!!!
I like the duo.dude is a natural in front of the camera
I got to see Charlie Daniels perform at the Atlanta Motor Speedway at something called Countryfest. I was distracted by personal issues but the show was still amazing.
I can't believe you haven't done Wooly Swamp yet!! 💯💯💯 The saying is... A violin has strings & a fiddle has straaaangs!! 🤣🤣🤣❤
The difference between the violin and fiddle is just the techniques used. Fiddlers are usually taught by old fiddlers who pass along tunes and techniques. I am a violinist who went to a fiddling group to learn fiddlin'. One of the fiddlers watched me and said "You must be paper trained." meaning I came from the world of written music and not by ear tradition,
Another little tidbit from the classical world. One of greatest violinist and composer, Paganni who lived in the 16th century was said he sold his soul to the devil just like Jonny. If you talk to any violist they will tell you his violin pieces are so hard that they must have come from the devil because they are torture. (LOL)
I never realized that Rappers were such snobs that they NEVER listened to any other kind of music!!! Just kept your minds closed to other genres. Well, I am an older Caucasian lady. Grew up in a row house in an inner city in the Philladephia area. We were bombarded by lots of different types of music like the Beach Boys, Motown with great choreography like the Temptations and James Brown, the British Invasion led by the Beatles, and folk music with Bob Dylan and James Taylor. There was something for everyone but it was acceptable to have favorite songs from all genres. Now that you guys are in your 40's, you have a much better perspective on life and you realize that there is a great big world out there. With your reaction channels you have a perfect opportunity to explore all great music from the past and the present in all different genres. ONE kind of music we didn't hear very much at all, was country, and when I heard it on T.V. or radio, I would change the channel immediately. All that twanging and crying of the steel guitars offended my nervous system!! I ended up going to college in the deep South. Talk about culture shock- like moving to a new country. The music was the hardest thing for me. I ended up staying here and out of my love for the southern friendliness, I have adjusted my tastes somewhat. They are wonderful storytellers and when they put their lyrics to beautiful music, it is some of the prettiest stuff ever produced. So, glad to see you Rappers in awe of Charlie Daniels. I know he would be so happy, if he saw your reaction. Thank you. 🤗🎻🎶
I saw them in 2004 at Memphis in May Music Fest and it was just as striking, just as good!
I took Violin lessons in the 60's for concert violin.
I never got past screech. I also took lessons on the cello, guitar & piano. I still play the piano & guitar.
i got to see the cdb live and it was such a great show. mr. daniels always seemed like a real solid guy too. godspeed.
It is always awesome when new generations are introduced to great music....keep exploring....if your friend has not seen eruption dude play it for him lol...
