How did I end up on stage in front of 55,000 fans at a Poison Concert....and did I get the shot or not? In this video I break down what most professional photographers will never show you, non-keeper images. My goal is to show you the good, the bad and the final keepers so you can see how a professional culls and selects his images. This is the Truth about Photography. Thanks to Poison for allowing me to spend the day to capture images of them in Philadelphia during the Stadium Tour.
I used the Canon EOS R3 along with Canon R28-70 F2, RF 85 F1.2, EF 11-24 F4 Adapted.

„How good are you performing under pressure?“. Me: „I don’t know, but I will try (clearing my throat): din din din di-di-din din, din din din di-di-in din,….“
That last shot of Brett is probably the best live rock show image I've ever seen. Wow.
What a journey you’ve had. From those Allen’s camera lens reviews to sharing the stadium with rockstars. You’re an inspiration Fro! Keep on rocking.
I've been around longer, he's been doing these type concerts before Allens. Jared a rockstar himself! haha
@@MrJVisionz eh…. You make it seem like he shoots concerts constantly and he doesn’t use his following as credentials to be allowed in. Is it wrong? Not necessarily is it easily misinterpreted by people who don’t shoot music? Big yes.
@@hankypanky4u man what he was shooting concerts before his “big following”
that final photo! just epic! so good to see all the work you put in too!
Thank you so much for honestly sharing your struggles with the exposure. This makes me feel better when it happens to me in certain exciting situations!
Great storytelling video!
Rock on!
shooting a concert during the day is really hard, a lot to pay attention. It's great to see that Jared struggles with it too, but the explanation makes so much sense. Thanks for this video!
Watching this episode made me think of a Poison song....."Nothing but a good time!" Growing up in the 80s made it even better. Great shots, great commentary, great experience. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride.
I really like that you show the faults in settings. These events are very fast paced and it is easy to make a mistake. You saw it, corrected it and carried on. Awesome job!
That shot of Brett Michaels punching made me say, "oh shit". Nice work
What a video! I learned so much watching this. I love to see the thought process you go through to get the right shot that you want to get. Thank you so much Jared for making this video.
That BW shot of him with his fists out looking into the camera is spectacular. It blows me away. I love everything about this shot. Had I have shot this. I would have exposed it exactly the same way that you did. You saved the highlights and saved the image.
What's really cool here is a high level of skill is being matched by professionalism, humility, and accountability to make for great outcomes. Thanks for teaching as you go. ... And here's to Poison!!!
When I'm culling I use this trick: would I want a print of this picture? After that: how big would I want this print to be displayed in my gallery? I find if I think from that point of view it helps me really cull the herd.
Great idea!
Amazing work Jared, thanks for sharing.
Kick ass Jared, the shots look fabulous! And the presets you used from your collection are really nice. Getting the 3 pack now!
I watched this entire video and it helps so much hearing you describe what you’re doing, how and why what you’re doing. Letting us know your settings with the pics is so helpful. Knowing you struggle with shooting with settings and time constraints is real world.
Watched the entire thing. I'm an amateur and I love to see the thought process of taking/editing pictures from professionals. I learned so much, thank you!
Great vid Jared. You had an amazing day! I’d love the print you mention in the vid. I look forward to seeing the book. Cheers.
Wow very cool. Thks Jared for showing this and all the other tips you help us newbs out with. Awesome job...
This was so awesome!! Thank you for sharing with us. You didn't have to, but I appreciate it. Love that last shot. Being a teenager of the 80s and 90s I love Poison!! Thanks Jared!!
Another great video! Cracking final shot, I would love a print :D
Man watching this, I felt like I was at the concert lol What a great opportunity for you and thanks for sharing your thoughts and BTS! I'm sure those guys are going to appreciate the hell out of what you deliver to them
Bro you killed this set! As a Philly native and photographer who learned watching your videos I’d love to get some of your work or the chance to work and learn from you personally! Keep up the great work!
Great shoot and a phenomenal video, thank you for sharing!!
Thanks for taking us through the day. Rikki is a super nice guy. He totally took the time to chat it up when I met him on the set of That Metal Show in LA back in the day. That shot of Rikki warming up at 9:22 and the Van Halen road case off to the side is awesome. Put me in the running for a print of that Brett Michaels image. Excellent job!
This is one of my favorite videos from you and I appreciate the effort you put into sharing the whole process. Understanding the event, conditions, challenges and how you applied your tools in a real world shoot were very beneficial. I appreciate the self critique, how you addressed some of the shortcomings and commentary on how you could have gotten better results. Great video!
WOW!!! Thanks for sharing these wonderful images!!!! Poison ROCKS!!
Love the Fist pump shot! Love the image and the save!
I remember WMMR from my teenage years. Best free form radio station in the universe!
And I am with you on auto ISO. I found it to be more trouble than it's worth.
Jared, what a fantastic video. As a budding live music photographer, I learned so much from it. Thanks. It’s even better being of one of my favorite bands.
Really great to show us the behind the scene, the thought process. That's you most interesting videos!!!! Thanks for sharing!!
That's a crazy shoot day. So happy for you and the experience you had. Thanks for sharing it with us. I'd be happy to have that print :)
Jared, you have one of the very best photography channels ever… congrats and thank you, I learn so much with this kind of videos! Greetings from México!
I commented the other day that I ordered my first 24-70mm
Commenting again to say it came in the mail today and it's great so far
That was an awesome shot! And to see how fast it all happened goes to show how you need to stay prepared. Photography isn’t just the camera doing all the work, you still need to know what you’re doing for situations like these you have the right reactions. Would love to post that picture up on my wall
Bloody brilliant! I loved this talk-through. Thank you Jared
Thank you, Jared! I did not want it to be over.
All great shots Jared!!!! Fast paced situation you did great working under pressure!!!
Great video! Thanks for sharing this!
I thought, “Jared, there’s no way I’m watching at 48 min video” and, then, you captivated me from beginning to end. Awesome!
😲 Now I gotta watch! 👀
You've got me intrigued...🧐🔍
I suppose the kids can eat later. ☺️🤭
Holy cow…. Was it 48 minutes?!?!?!?!
Love all those shots man! What an experience to have. Love the pic you got of yourself in the mirror. The shot you got at the end of him running at you was amazing. So cool to see you show us that even though you were under exposed you still got the shot and it turned out great. Would be an amazing print to have. I love how real you are in these videos and how you really show us everything. Makes me feel better when I am shooting and really makes me want to take better shots.
Those are some crazy and amazing shots! When he came running back at you and you were under exposed, that doesn’t matter, and you just proved it. That would be an awesome print to have!
Exactly
I had a similar experience, the lead singer came up to me at the edge of the stage unexpectedly and thanks to raw I was able to save the photo.... wish I can some how share the photo
@@nickp518 what stops you from sharing it
@@costinvaly1 it's on my photography page, but would be nice to share it in the reply section
Great video and amazing images!
I'm just starting with gig photography and videos like this are a huge help, thank you.
and wow that image of Bret at the end is mighty! That would look incredible printed onto metal 🙂
I love how this channel explains how to tell a story with GREAT detail while taking pictures and you don’t even realize this video is a story within a story. Awesome work!
That last shot of Brett is just crazy. It might be one of my favorite Fro shots yet! Nice work sir, would love to be in the running for a print!
That shot of Brett walking towards you with his fists up is awesome! Would have loved to see the look on your face when you were culling your photos and that one came up! What a great photo to print!
Wow, what a great capture on that fist coming into the lens. Of course I would like to get it as well!
Great video Jared 👍👍 tough choices the picture with the amps is cool great job
What a brilliant video Jared! Love the images you captured. Wonderful story-telling!
Thanks Jared!
@@damirgovorcin2771 DO NOT TXT THEM ON TELEGRAM, it's Not me it's a SCAMMER
Fun! Interesting story of what you shot and what you dealt with, Jared. Had to watch all of it, how you drew me in. Nice job!
Fenomenal shots. Shows are so quick and dynamique.
dope video bro... It actually inspired me to look for different shots next time i do a gig. You should definatley do more vids like this
Awesome behind the scenes action! A lot of photographers have RUclips channels but I don’t see any of them shooting venues like this! Too cool to not watch and I’m learning so much from this channel! Love that last shot; send it if you’ve got it!
Great video, thanks for sharing Jared. It's really helpful to see what others would choose as 'winners'.
One of my favorite bands from high school. That last shot of Brett is outstanding! Once in a lifetime shot. I would be over the moon to have captured it and honored to own it!
Per usual, Jared, excellent video! I love your honesty and detailed information. Thank you for sharing!
Love this! Jared you are a great guy with great work ethic. So much to learn.
That last shot is fantastic. It inspires me to think more when I do concert shots.
thank you for sharing and explaining your thought process throughout the shoot
Absolutely one of your best videos! Now a low light one would be interesting also.
Such great shots Jared! Tough to get great shots with limited time, changing lights, etc. Love the super wide shots...so good! That spontaneous last shot is truly a winner! I would love a print Jared! 2,100 to 44...would fry my brain! Love when you break these down and how you get to where you go...Excellent work all around.
Thanks so much for sharing so much information with all of us.
You are definitely your toughest critic. Your Brett Michaels image is incredible!! Only you know you're off! The shot was impromptu and you put yourself in the right spot at the time. I love that shot but love you finding it by happenstance even more. Thank you for sharing.
The winner for me is the color shot of C.C. warming up with the Marshall stack on the left and Poison case on the right. The yellow in the Marshalls and their perspective point directly to C.C. and draw the eye right in on him and his fantastic guitar. Nice work!
I want that shot. Great job showing us the flat image then to your edits. That last shot was indeed a banger!
Thanks for showing us the keepers and not keeper images. For me it is helpfull to see what you look for in an image. Love your work and teachings, it helped me grow as a photographer. And I would love to have a print of your work!!
That’s exactly what I try to do
Loved this video Jared, I think you nailed it many amazing shots.
Thank you for describing your process. Even though I'm learning photography on my own, you've helped me confirm that I am on the right track (mostly).
That looked like such a fun shoot! Great shots!!
Thanks for this video. It was really fun to see and hear the story of that day. As I new photographer I often get nervous about “missing” the shot. Your videos have helped me just get after it and take photos. This was a cool story and some epic shots!
These are some incredible photos, and Poison seemed like such great people to get along with! I'm only an amateur photographer but seeing the workflow of a pro when picking shots is very helpful.
Appreciated seeing a little of your workflow, I struggle with going through a couple hundred shots when shorting the local High School Baseball team. The ISO challenge from the shad to full sun is tricky, especially when the action is also moving. Thank you for all you do!
how you`ve become my favr8 youtuber in such a short time..iv learnt to just trust myself in my art because of your work and your approach to this technical element called photography, you make it litteral and yet so simple.
Jared , thanks, I love the video!!! I doubt that I’m alone in saying I’d really enjoy seeing more shows like this!!! Great for information as well as entertainment!!!!
another amazing informative video. love the content and hope I can get a print of that killer shot. thank you sir!
You are the only pro photographer who keeps it real. 2100+ shots and then culled to only the best of the best with honors (
Nice work Jared, some, in my opinion, potential iconic shots in there. Makes me remember back to the 2001 - 2007 time period when I used to photograph live music, working with venues in my hometown of Plymouth, UK, all-access kinda deals, nothing on this scale, we are talking under 1,000 capacity venues, usually with crappy lighting.
That was a so very interesting! Really really enjoyed this and your candor on what worked and what didn’t. Thanks
I would love a print. Great seeing how something that isn’t a keeper can be brought back so much. Love story time.
Fantastic shots!, it’s really sorta comforting seeing that you shoot like how I shoot. Let’s me know I’m on the right track.
I would love that print Jared. Such a money shot by taking a risk. You inspire me. Thank you.
I'm way late to this game..... I'm an old school rocker who saw Poison in the early 1990s and I will never forget how Rikki Rockett blew me away during his drum solo. This band was so much more than the glam rock they had to embrace at the time. I would love to have a print of your incredible work, Jared!
It's nice to see the behind the scenes look at the process of an event like that. A lot of great shots!
That photo of him shaking his fists at you is probably one of the first ones of yours where i really went "wow"! That's a super cool capture.
And, yes, would love a print if possible. :)
Forget the feet, You got THE shot in THE perfect moment!
And yeah, not gonna lie, I'd love a print of this as a die hard Poison fan.
Great behind the scenes video, would love to see more from different shoots.
This is awesome man! Super cool!
I’ve been shooting professionally for about a year, and have been doing a few concert and shows, and this was really helpful. Can’t wait to do something similar to this
I want that print! that was insane! I loved this journey Fro, you're awesome!
OMG I remember Poison was one of my favorite bands when I was a teen, I remember having the name on my books everywhere hahahahahahahahha. Love the Video Jared!
Love these and Rikki so much!!!! 💚
I would love to get that print. I was born 1970 so I definitely went through the 80s with poison being one of my top favorite rock bands. I still have their lp. Btw, I can imagine how chaotic that photoshoot must have been. Considering the fast pace of it, you did a great job. As far as questioning whether or not you should have done the portraits, it all comes down to what you did to get that final good shot...you just go for it. You "look around" to make sure it's all good, don't overthink, make it happen!
This experience was incredible. Great video showing the process to everyone. I have to get one of these prints.
Yes please i would love a print !!! That shot of him running back towards you was killer !!
I love these commentaries! 🤘🏻
Hey Jared, I was one of the photogs that shot that show in Philly for the radio station. You also showed me that new sign you picked up. I really enjoyed this video seeing how you talked about reacting to the fast acting situations. Hope to see you out at some more shows.
I’d definitely love that print. It’s an incredible shot. This has been an incredible video to watch. Thank you for this.
This was one of the most informative, educational and entertaining videos on photography that I have seen in any genre of photography. Thank you!!! And if you’re coming to Kansas City to shoot them on July 19, maybe I’ll meet you. I’ll be working security
Cool video. Thanks for sharing the experience!
Stunning pics! The Knuckles pic is Superb! 😎
That shot is fire!!! Loved one of those!!
