After posting the last "reaction" video where 4,000 images were sent in. I got a lot of requests asking why the images that didn't get picked didn't get picked. I decided to make another pass at the images to pull ones that needed a critique. I hope you enjoy this video, would you like to see me pick even more?
Jared Polin didn’t submit any but no great pictures of all those 4000?
Yes, maybe 1 every week or 2 weeks would be awesome. It allows us to think about how we would set up that picture and or change our own style based off your views of photos.
I would love to see another 1 or 2 videos :) I love hearing your insight. My image hasnt been critiqued yet- may it didn't need a "critiquee, critiquison" or it will be in the next video. Thanks for taking time to do this for everyone
What made you change your mind? I appreciate you doing this. But if it is wasting your time then no need to bother.
I think you should keep this series going, very useful! I've learned alot already!
I agree!
If you have learned about Alot, you must know, then, that Alot is a majestic creature! hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html
And I find this critique series very useful as well.
Watched it all. Keep it coming!
We should send him our best motion-blurred, out of focus, watermarked photos guys!!
he would literally frizzle with smoke coming out of all orifices
iPhone screenshot, muted flat colors, cut off toes and hands, and not looking at the camera. Got it
@@despecc dusty lens, focus is off by a smidge, slightly tilted angle, direct sunlight
I've upped my game thanks to these reviews...I still suck, but I suck less. Thank you.
Nine Stories Creative next stop: terrible! Be sure to stop by and say hello to me because we’ll be neighbors!
Fro knows photo...and umpiring. Really enjoy these critiques.
fotonut want catnip?
"Horizontical" - Jared, 2k19
i twitched every single time
lol
Lol yup
Jarod, you’ve become my very own personal “camera” trainer. I keep on learning stuff from you. To answer your question, yes, you should keep on making these vids. Oh yeah, your humour is priceless and keeps the whole expert to learnee very natural and authentic.
"I want to see something in the mouth" (Jared Polin 2019)
This cracked me up!
Lots of helpful info on your channel dude. You go fro!
Good critiques Jared. From the perspective of a keen amateur from the film era coming back into photography with a DSLR, these videos are very useful indeed. Sometimes difficult to accept criticisms but thinking back to some of my old pictures I can see the benefit from having advice from someone not afraid to say what needs to be said. Thank you!
I think I've learned the most when you critique/process your own photos because you know what you were going for and the constraints you had to work with.
I absolutely love these long form talking videos. Actually give me so much to work on. Like the talk about trading stops to get certain effects. Its something I knew but didn't really ever think of. 10/10 content would love to see these continue.
Yes I am enjoying these kinds of videos, I am learning a lot... keep it up!!
Yas! Please keep doing more of these! This is so helpful! :)
Every time he says horizonical I feel like I'm having a stroke
ahh not a good stroke??...Strokes can be nice but this doesn't sound like a good stroke
I personally love these critiques. Please keep them going! 💗💗💗💗💗
Jared, love your critiques - for the most part! Couple of things though: (1) Shots where the background is super sharp, distracting from the subject that's also super sharp. Easily and rapidly fixed in Photoshop, with a number of ways to blur or bokeh or change the background .. . from subtle to extreme, from just a basic blur to motion blurs to spiral blurs. From separating the main focal person or thing in the photo, putting them or it on another layer, and monkeying with the background in even more interesting ways. From even taking it a step further and changing the background entirely. Super easy and fast to do any of that. It's the miracle of Photoshop, a million ways to correct for a something that's awry with a photo's background. (2) Eyes. Not every portrait or closeup of a person needs to have the eyes looking at the camera. Sometimes a better story is told when the person is looking askance, or off into the distance, away from a direct gaze.
I enjoy watching this. For the most part I agree with your critique. I think you are honest in evaluating the photos and that is what counts. I also like your attitude and type of humour in the way you present it. Awesome job Jared :-) Looking forward to the next critique ...
I love your critiques, this and the 10 best ones. I am learning so much about composition, focusing, subject isolation etc., from good AND bad pictures. Please keep it up.
Thank you for those images, Jared. As a beginner/amateur photographer, I can learn a ton listening to you "criticizing" those photos! I would love it if you keep doing those and will be looking forward for more. See ya!
Love these! Really helpful to see what is working and not working in even the "not so great" submissions. Fun seeing you pick them apart.
Personally, I would rather people tell me if my photos aren't good or need work. CC always helps us improve
oh my gosh you used mine , thank you so much i feel honoured you gave me critique i take it all on board! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
How did you send your photo to him?
I love this series, makes me learn a lot. Please continue doing it. And Thank you, Jared!
Thank you for taking even more time to go through more of these pictures. I do appreciate your comments and tips -- I don't always agree, but a lot of this is subjective -- but you are spending a lot of time and energy helping *US* out here. Now, my pictures was not in this batch (nor the first), so it must stink.... :-) But thank you!!!
Keep up the good work, I am learning a lot from watching you critique/edit/comment on the work of people trying to learn the craft. I myself am very new to photography, so I'm tuned in on a lot of your work here on the FroKnowsPhoto channel. Thank you for posting and teaching.
Thanks for sharing your taste in your critiques. My sensitivities have increased accordingly. Good job.
Hi there! Sometimes I love when ppl send you their “best” photos cuz we can actually learn something. I send some also but I did understand why you didn’t picked them up and I realised that I have a lot work to do to get to that level in photography. Because of your critiques I found lots of mistakes in my work but if it wasn’t you doing what you do... I’ll probably not notice them. So glad you’re here Fro!
Love it ! Ive watched both videos for the complete time. Perfect lesson in photography - i paused each photo before you started the comment and looked at it and critiqued it myself before I listened what you had to say. So cool we are mostly on the same line.
love these videos, it helps me as a beginner understand so much in such a short time frame. Learning from each critique. Keep the coming!!
These videos are really helpful. Just seeing setting people have used and what and why you would have used is helpful to move forwards. 🤘🏻
I like these critique videos, even the length is totally fine for me. Keep going Jared 👍
^agreed!
Love this type of videos because you are actually trying to teach us something and not here just for the views thank you sir
Love your videos, Jared. I've been shooting for years, but I've learned more from you than from anyone else. And yes, more critiques, PLEASE!
Absolutely enjoy the long critiques. Keep them up. Keep picking photos and going over them.
These videos are great. I like hearing what others think of images and learning some things that I can do to improve my art. Thank you
I absolutely love this series Jared! Please keep this going, I learn quite a lot and one day I send you some of mine haha. Thanks bro for making these!
This is absolutely FANTASTIC to learn from! YES!! keep this going!!
I LOVED this video and the one you did on portraits like this. I could watch you critique photos for hours. I feel like I learned so much! Maybe I’m weird but I love hearing all the different cameras and lenses people use, seeing the composition, the creativity, and then hearing your opinion. Please keep doing them!
The reason my photo at 19:29 is shot at 1/8000 of a second is to freeze the ball to the point the stitches are visible. And the players hand etc. All that would be blurry at 1/4000. And no, If a surprise 2nd sun appeared in the sky, I would not overexpose because I'm shooting in M with Auto-ISO. Another reason i shoot at 1/8000 sometimes is the look is very different. I don't want to shoot the same photo as the guy next to me. Even if he is using tiny lenses.
Thanks for including me. I was out in Philly for 2 weeks a short time ago, but there were no Fro events... A shame.
he sed 1/4000 though..
He said 1/4000
Yea, He said I shoot outdoors at 400 and clearly meant.... something.
I love the 1 hour long critique format. You should do this once a month.
I'm sure he would love to but the amount of work is crazy
These are actually much easier to edit. I shoot it generally in one sitting. The long part is selecting the images.
@@froknowsphoto oh interesting
Definitely enjoying watching this! Watch both videos all the way and have learned alot 🤙🏼📷
Alot is proud of you that you learned! hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html
Hey Jared! I love these critiques. I am learning so much!!! Thank you! Even if my image gets picked I would want you to critique me super hard because I accept it with a growth mindset and the rest of the people complaining their images didn’t get picked should as well.
In law school, you learn by reading and studying cases. With photography it is the same, you have to study them to understand. I think it is the best way to learn. Thanks Fro
I just love that 10 second exposure at the end of the video. ♥️
I’m enjoying it. It shows some of the things I do wrong and what not to do. One of the issue I have is that I do not think about the setting and changing them while I’m out taking pictures.
I have enjoyed these series. I know I’m late to the party, but definitely picking up things from theses. Thank you!
Great education. Your critique style is awesome BTW. You teach me better than any other channel, I’ve seen. Thanks so much for this Ton of work.
I prefer these 'bad' critiques as it has much more constructive information to help me better my photography skills. Please keep them coming!
Yes I'm enjoying this as I'm always looking to learn & grow and that's what I'm doing with these videos. Thank you!
Watched for 55 minutes & I must say this is one of the beat videos in terms of knowledge, we don’t get this with other channels. Thank you very much for sharing this Jared.
Jared this is amazing to watch and listen to when I'm editing client work. I appreciate this. Please do more!
love the critiques. Please keep doing these videos.
Fro...love the critiques...these are by far the most informative videos you have (however I have not watched all of yours...yet!). Having completed 5 years of architecture school back in the early 90's, and been practicing for 25 years now, and am very familiar with the "crits" of people far more experienced than me at the time, they are an invaluable teaching and learning method. Funny how I love great photography and after 12 years of shooting on all Auto, just decided to bump it up a notch and get out of that Mode and upgraded to a 7D MkII with a 70-200 2.8 and am just starting to learn all over again... really appreciate your insight and knowledge... (PS have yet to delve into RAW, but will soon...[I know I know...]...)
Thank you so much for focussing on the Exposure Triangle so much. It definitely helps me get more comfortable with my settings
Jared Polin, right now I dont know anyone putting this much time into critiquing. I do appreciate it and learn alot. It is always easy to critique great photos, but that's just a pat on the back. It's the people who struggle that need the help and the direction if they're willing to learn. Keep them coming.
I made it this long! These are some of my favorite videos that you do. I watch everyone I can find. As an absolute beginner photographer, your critiques of photographs teaches me loads. No replacing actually shooting, but when I look at a shot, I now see them differently. Keep doing these!
Dude seriously love this. As an amateur photographer that has been taking pics for 20+ years with an SLR/DSLR you are teaching me tons. I just found your channel so I did not submit for this but still learning tons. Very interesting and I will be watching all 4k if you get to all of them.
I'm learning so much from these videos. I look at the image and think what I would change. If it matches with your critique, I guess I'm right. A lot of it is subjective of course.
Great video, this was good for me as an aspiring photographer because it helps me see where I can do better. Also I'm impressed by the things you had to say. Again great video.
please keep this series going i've learned so much about composition and other elements that make up a good photo!
My photo was the first one you critiqued in this video. Thank you for taking the time to do so and for your tips. I will try shooting vertical next time I am at the game and to be a back more I was not in the photo pit so I shouldn't have too much of an issue doing so. Thanks again fro.
Thank you taking the time and giving honest pro opinions. Critiques are a great way to learn a variety of photo styles.
Great cometary, very useful info on wide range of topics. Would like to see you work on raw files. Please keep doing this. Thanks!
What a great and highly educational video! I enjoyed it tremendously! There is no reason to apologize for expressing your opinions about not-good-pictures.
I am getting better while listening to you. And maybe one day I will send my best photos...that probably will not impress you
Fantastic video really helps a lot in the "reading" of photos and is very educational
I like this type of video because it is very helpful. I've had images that I thought looked amazing until I learned more and looked back later and asked myself what in the world was I thinking. I would never get upset if you ever critiqued my photos because its the only way to get better.
This is what we did every Monday in college. Images uploaded to a server, and shown on a projector in front of the entire class. 3 professors with microphones pointing out why your images sucked. Girls literally ran away in tears. This helped me progress as a photographer more than anything else I learned in school.
Enjoying the Critiques fro, just finished the 11 days crash course thank you ☺️
It's stuck in my brain now,
Don't cut the limbs at weird places. I learned something today !
Love these last 2 critique videos! Very helpful and gives me a lot to keep in mind as I shooting!
Damn I actually watched the whole thing. It's very informative and teaches me some things so yeah, it's a good vid
I actually like this series more than talking about good pictures!
Really enjoyed this video. I know I'm late to the party but really starting to understand what to look for and how to get the shot. Thank You Sir!
Watched the whole video. As someone not being blasted I appreciated the no hold back honesty. More, please! Thanks!
Am learning a lot from these critiques! Please keep doing more....!
I like the critiques - it's very helpful!
I very much enjoyed the evaluations. Thank you for your views.
Yes please! They say a smart man learns from his mistakes but a truly wise man learns from the mistakes of others!!
You are amazing!!!! Keep it goin Polin, love your work. This is one of the best methods of learning :)
I always love watching these videos, I feel like I'm constantly learning something new every time.
I think it is great that you did a critique on some of the photo's that weren't the 'best'. I think people learn more from them, and you were very encouraging.
Thanks Jared. I am really enjoying these videos. Very educational and you put a fun spin on it.
Next to actually taking pictures, this is where I learn the most. Thank you!
Just watched an episode of the 'critique', didn't think I'd like it but it was really useful. Thanks Jared!!!
Your input on theese images are both helpful and funny, makes for great video! Thanx.
I really appreciate you taking the time to go through that many images. Well done.
16:37 Ayeee...!😏
*Gotcha* *bruh* ..!!
I agree 100% on that eagle picture. About having a faster shutter speed even if you have to bump up the iso. Because once your pictures blurry is blurry forever. If you do have a high ISO there's softwares that you can run your images through now it cleans it up. So at a future time you could potentially get the green out of the picture.
I like the way you handled the picture at 7:30. You are really good at being honest without being discouraging.
Love this series. One of the most effective ways for me to learn is from mistakes (by others and myself).
I'm learning A LOT from this, keep the series.
these are the best videos you make. Reacting to peoples submitted photos. Please do more!
Love the critique on the umpire lol. Awesome.
made it the full hour 😂 would definitely say keep this going, very insightful and helpful. Defiantly learning a lot from you and your videos 😃
The gymnast image was better than when he edited it. It had the feeling of practicing even though nobody is watching. Not everything should be about tack sharp focus. Sometimes it's about emotion. Carter Bresson was not always in focus but his images invoke emotion.
It was focused on the windows behind, it was a miss.
I like the critiques and try to learn something from all your videos. I've only taken photography seriously for about 4 months. So I got a lot to learn.
The jet at 32:40 is a real old shot from the interwebs. Old pic, thus old equipment. Cool at the time!
I am a newbie with photography. Still trying to find what kind of photography i would like to pursue or would fit my taste/style. I really did listen to nearly all of this "reacting to..." video of yours. This is very VERY HELPFUL. Great advises, techniques. Some of my photos had alot of mistakes that you also criticize. Before seeing your videos, my shots look great, but i am very thankful i saw your video, I need more practice! :)
Yeah I'm enjoying everytime I watch critique episode, plz keep going Jared.
If you taught a class; I’d attend. Hope you do more of these👍🏿
