Thanks for the review on Woodland 1 / the waterfall photo 8:38
As tempting as it was to move the log, I wanted to respect being in a National Park and minimize any disturbance. Very much appreciate these videos and thanks again for taking the time to review my photo. Cheers!

Great shot! Leave nature alone. Things are seldom tidy when it's natural. Of course, moving small things like leaves would be perfectly fine. Just my opinion.

Hi Nigel. Feel privileged that you selected my image to be critiqued! Thanks so much and will definitely take the critique onboard when I’m lucky enough to be back in the same spot on the West coast of Scotland in just 2 weeks time. Will make sure I have an appropriate supply of apples to ensure sufficient time for checking and double checking the (hopefully!) improved composition 😀😀 🍎 😀

Oh my gosh, I can't believe my photo made it in the Video!!
Thanks a lot for your Input, I really appreciate it. I guess I was so busy looking for a composition I kind of missed the light that morning.
Also I'll try to take better care of my foreground next time. Since I just got the 14-24mm recently I think I really need to practice here...
When you take wide angle photos, it looks so much easier that it actually is! 😄
    Thanks again!
    Best wishes.

HI Nigel. Thank you for another great video. While taking #22 I was genuinely focusing on your lessons and maneuvered my car so carefully to line up the trees. I had visited the site twice, once at sunset and once at sunrise. During the sunrise shoot I had to keep telling other safari goers that there were no lions, just pretty trees. Having gotten a pleasing comp, I noticed that there were a few birds flying around just before the sun peaked over the horizon behind me. I got three series of birds but #22 had the best pose and placement of a lovely Burchell's starling. I appreciate your commentary, especially as I was not certain about the shallow DoF I had chosen. Thank you so much for this video! I was so excited to have my picture review by you (Image 14 woodland (not from Andrew but from me ;-) ). Thank you so much for your advices. I will retry this shot next autumn by a foggy morning! It was foggy when I arrived on site, but by the time I find this place, the fog was not there anymore. I will go back there this summer to be ready this autumn. Thank you so much. I learned so much since I discover your channel and follow your Masterclasses.

A trick I've found for these types of woodland shots that look great in person, but seem to be flat when you look at the image, is to close one eye while scouting the location or looking for good shots.
That will remove your sense of 3d, and give you a better idea of what the resulting image will look like.

Great vid and some spot on advice!...I do slightly disagree on some points, but then it's a question of individual taste and ultimately the look and feel you're trying to achieve...apart from the glaringly obvious mistakes that the beginner wouldn't pick up on of course..🙂..Anyway, thanks! very enjoyable! How often do you do these critiques? I'd love you to have a nose at some of mine..where you can destroy me for daring to disagree!! lol.. I played a little game with myself while watching this week's video: Can I guess what Nigel's gonna say before he says it about each image, and do I agree or not? I found that in matters of composition and framing I was 100% on both, but in matters of editing we diverge. I don't know what to make of that, but it's interesting to think about.

Maybe we have as little woodland entries to this video because the forest in other countries are the same as here in my region of Germany: cultivated, single-crop farming ones - without any character to it. IDK how soulless forest are in other countries though

This was such an interesting video. I would have a question, which is about the lightroom function of perspective calibration, where you can tilt the angle of observation, and I feel like potentially it could fix a few of the 'empty regions' issues you've pointed out. I've noticed that it's a tool I've not seen you use, is that something you wouldn't recommend? Thank you so much for these videos, they've helped me a lot

It's ironic that town photos usually look more natural (to me) than ones taken in the countryside.
Maybe I've been exposed to too much AI art, but some of their landscape photos look very AI-ish (to me). I know they aren't (or presume they aren't) but the style and possibly extensive editing give them that feel. I guess street photos may be in the same place in five years time.
