Come with me as I photograph not one, but two Playoff Baseball Games between the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves. For one game I used the Sony a1 and the other I used two Canon EOS R3's. Which did I prefer and why, find out in this video.

Jared's the type of guy to vlog on a Canon R3.
Bet he can’t wait for the Canon R1
“I’m that type of guy…”
That’s where those muscles come from.
@@SolamenteVees “ooohhh weee ohhhh ….. ohhhhhhhhhoooo”
Lol
As a retired (2009) TV sports reporter, you took me way back with your walking us through the stadium. Whether one is in radio, TV, or photojournalism, the challenges and issues are the same. Good job, Jared. It was cool indeed.
I used to shoot down there too back in the day. Also took me back to memory lane. He did awesome!!!! One of his best videos. I love how he gives great detail from top to bottom. Thanks Jared!
A really incredible and helpful backstory on shooting at a Major League Baseball game. What a thrill it must have been! A huge thank you for sharing this Jared 😊
glad you enjoyed!!!
Wow, I/11 people shooting. What an honor!!! 😊😃☺
What a great video, living the dream mate!
LMAOOOOO the Karen screaming "SIT DOWN!" and Jared turning around going "What does the sign say?"
Lol had to rewatch it
Yeah, but how would you like to pay a small fortune for a playoff seat, then find yourself right behind Fro? He should at least make a little effort to corral his bush a bit! 🌳
@@alanm.4298 Except that it wasn't her seat. She was getting food and drink. Sucks to be her.
I really like your commentary. You’re always thorough and honest about the pros and cons of using camera bodies and lenses. I’m an amateur photographer and I thank you for your no bs straightforwardness.
As an Astros fan, all this footage was genuinely incredible and really brought us viewers into what it is like to be up close and capture the world series! As always, great video, and cheers to a great series between two giants!
This was so enjoyable, Jared! Thank you for taking us behind the scenes. You are so passionate about photography!!
I personally love videos like this when you show how your shoots go. Keep the good work up!
You should try to get to some NBA games like you have with Baseball. I’d love to see some more of how photographers work NBA games.
I am really happy for you to experience something like that! This year I got to be a team photographer here in germany and I was so proud when my mom told me that she saw me on tv. She always turns the tv on when my team was playing just to see me photographing them. So I really feel you! Hope your journey continues like that!
Wow your famous you were on tv wow so fab
50 years ago it was Canon vs Pentax, later on Canon vs Nikon, now Canon vs Sony ...
But always Canon… Because if anyone can, Canon can :)
@@thedrunkencookmostly714 and Jared is definitely a Canon guy these days. He is even mentioning the canon glass on the tv cameras ;-)
It was never Pentax vs Canon.
@@RobertFalconer1967 Asahi
Nvr heard of pentax vs canon 😒 anyway no matter what the comparison, canon always no 1 camera manufacturer
Jared, this was a great video to watch...to see all the detail that goes on behind the scenes plus just how much organisation goes on, allocated areas...things marked off with everyone's names....wow...so much goes on... Congrats Jared.....glad you had a great time...well done :-)
That was an awesome video. Keep up the good work, and glad you had a chance to experience those moments. Can't wait to see your World Series video.
Hello Jared, i would like to know if when you have an assigned press/photography place are you free to move and shoot from anywhere in the public area ?
Great video and fun video experience. Thanks for taking the time to pull all of this together.
What an experience! Thanks for capturing it for us and congratulations!
Jarred, you are the BEST! One of a kind person with drive, passion, amazing photographic accomplishments and a gift for quality content creation that brings this experience and others that you have had for all of us to participate in and enjoy. Thank you so much for putting this together. Fantastic video. So many great gems based on your experiences as well as your photographic decisions/choices. Very helpful for those of us learning and growing in photography.
Great images and story, also love your different angles from the other photographers. The image of the Phillis having a team photo, it told the story from the angle you took it. Look forward to the next round.👍
Ok 2 questions, which lens on the r3 for the vlog? What brand of tripod did you use as a handle?
This is so awesome that you got to show so much behind the scenes before the game. Love this video!
Great video Jared, thanks so much for sharing. Fantastic behind the scenes imagery and descriptions. Would love to see more of this. Great story telling 👏🏻💥
Thank you for sharing the details in terms of position and your thinking about what you were photographing.
Loved this one, Jared. Also, excellent work Dan. Everything about it was really cool, engaging, and entertaining. I thought the edit on the sun and shade full park shot was outstanding. My video that dropped today is college softball, the UTC blue gold game where the team divides up and plays against itself. There were maybe 100 people in the stands and I felt honored to be there and making photos so I can understand how even the unemotional Jared might feel something on the field after a playoff game! Now that the Braves are out, I'm pulling for the Phillies to go all the way just so you can shoot it.
Thank you for the compliment!!!
@@danielhyrowich You're welcome!
I think the best part of this video is hearing you took time to soak in the moment. I often take some landscape and wildlife and it’s so easy to bring home a photo of a moment I wasn’t really present for…this is my first video and easily earned a subscription from me. Great video, great job and look forward to exploring your work!
Saw you on TV at the Phillies game yesterday! Amazing win! What an experience. What a great finish.
What an outstanding experience, Jared. Lucky you to shoot those last couple games. Happy for you and thanks for sharing.
Well done. Thanks for showing us all behind the scenes, who will never get that vantage you had. I look forward to the next game reels.
Thanks for sharing all that goes into this. Great content that helps us learn how we can apply this to our applications!
Jared, I really enjoyed this! Also happy you got to experience all of it as well! Having the 360 cam was also cool since you could set it and pick your shots later and it was a remote camera man for you.
Your feelings remain me of the very first pro game I shot. Being on the field with professional photographers, seeing the athletes only a few meters away. The noise in the stadium. Gives me still goosebumps.
Great video Jared!
Awesome seeing you tackle the field! Your shots are some of the best in Baseball! Talking about using older glass with a new body, this has been so much fun to collect rarities with the LA-EA5 adapter on an a7Riv. I found a 1997 era 28-105 F2.8 which leaves my 24-70 in the bag. Picked up an a-mount 50-500 for next to nothing and am a rock star at family soccer games, and a 28-300 that handles hikes with ease. It's tough to find anything like these for the e-mount currently especially at the prices of used gear. Thanks for the inspiration on everything you post!
Thanks for sharing Fro! For those of us shooting HS and LL games, this is a dream episode. I could sense your excitement.
Absolutely WONDERFUL video. So many photographers are scared to death of talking about what they do, their clients and don't share information...only happy to sell it to you through their classes. Especially being in the fashion-ish scene, the photographers (aside from self absorbed editors) are one of the worst parts of photography in my experience (NYC).
But videos like this restore that there's some faith and just keep pushing along. It was great to hear him mentioning that he was himself taking a back by being in one of those moments that he's only ever seen on tv. I mean that's the goal for all of us in our vices or professional lives right? That moment that demonstrates that you did what you were supposed to do and you made it to a certain step. Its awesome.
Thanks Jared. You've done great, and hopefully photogs like myself who want to hit our goals can get some support and help along the way. It hasn't happened yet but fingers crossed. Cheers.
Awesome stuff man, that experience had to be mindblowing. I recently did a photoshoot of a highschool soccer game for my boss's kids team he helps coach. Photographing sport events wasn't something that had crossed my mind to do, but its actually a cool experience and I'd be down to do more now in the future. Maybe one year I'll move up to photographing a Phillies game.
Damn Jared! I was in Heaven. Thanks for sharing this with us. First I love sports and photography. I always dreamed of being able to do what you do but never had the guts to try it. Letting us watch you work, especially at a sporting event is much appreciated! Definitely a two thumbs up!!
Wow, by far my favorite of your many excellent RUclips videos! So cool to see the behind the scenes footage, amazing work, thanks!!
The title does no justice as to what this video is. That was probably one of the best RUclips videos I’ve ever watched. Such great content and it wasn’t just comparison of each camera it was a whole story. This video had life. A breath of fresh air from your usual camera content
My home team!!! Good job, Jared!! Seeing it from this perspective is spectacular. Thank you for sharing the experience with us.
Great insights from the field. Loved it! Thanks Jared for inviting us inside 🙏
2 big thumbs up for the reality of this video, just well done on everything from what it was like to be there, to the equipment & your mindset approaching this historical sports shoot / hope people appreciate the effort that went into this awesome content work by you
Very inspiring. Good to see jared in his element!
Loving that you are loving adapting the awesome ef glass on the R series bodies. Keep on keeping it real!
What a fantastic experience. Really like your explanation of the ‘why’ behind the photos you took.
Thanks for taking the time to put this together and sharing, very entertaining!
This whole experience seemed super cool! Just being there having access is awesome!
The best content in RUclips is like this: people really working, doing stuff. More videos like this and less gear talk for RUclips and for this channel! Thanks!
Problem is, gear talk easily gets the most attention / engagement on RUclips. I like a balance of both.
Love this video Jarde, love the fact you were vlogging and that you showed the behind the scenes of being on the game! thank you so much! Great job with the editing Stephen!
I edited this one! Stephen has no mic in this
@@danielhyrowich let’s go Dan 💪💪👍👍
Great work on this one Jared. Thank you for sharing!
Do you have to apply for a pass again next year? If so would you do it again?
great video, not a baseball guy, but this was super interesting. must've been a blast to be out on that field! love the diy dry bag lol
Excellent behind the scenes look. The celebration shots with the packed stadium were fantastic. Congratulations on the opportunity
Does Canon or Sony support HEIF format for photos? Specifically, to be viewed on iOS devices. Capture One won’t export RAW to HEIF. GIMP does but not the 10 bits version. This is the reason I haven’t been using my A7III much lately.
Wow, awesome experience to be a part of the photo session!!
I really enjoyed seeing your enthusiasm for shooting the game, as well as the behind the scenes look.
Randy Bocksnick (Mont)-- All my life I've wished I could do sports at that level, I been shooting sports at the High School level for 60 yrs!! I envy you Jared!
Massive respect to you Jared. Not only did you get outside your comfort zone and try sports photography, you then got constructively criticized and then went out to improve based on those criticisms (and improved your photos DRASTICALLY IMHO). There are a lot of RUclips channels that give tech reviews and tutorials, but for you to go out and actually create on this kind of level, it offers a higher level of legitimacy to what your channel is all about. Congrats my dude!!!
PS. For those thinking the R3 is too robust for vlogging, take a look at those bowling balls under Jared’s sleeves and think again 🤣🤣🤣
I liked your team photo shot and your comments about it.
One of your best videos. I always wondered what it would be like to actually be a credentialed photographer at a MLB game. I really liked the behind the scenes visit to the stadium from a photographer's perspective. Very well done--and thanks.
Wow JARED, very proud of you man, this all looks like a dream come true, heck what’s next, the NBA or even the NFL!!! Great images!!!
this is a crazy awesome look behind the scenes, need more content like this!
Awesome experience Jared! Thank you for sharing this with us!
Jared, that was awesome! Enjoy your videos, love the way you review and test gear, but taking us on this adventure was the best. Could tell from the tone of your voice that it was a big deal, because well… it was a big deal! The excitement was fun to watch, pictures were great, and seeing the photographer’s perspective of what it takes for sports to land in our living rooms around the world was enlightening. Thank you, great job!
Dude, congrats. Must have been incredible to experience all this and then cut it into a story like this! And the 80s movie montage soundtrack is just chefs_kiss.gif
Thank you, I live in EU, I have never visited US or any baseball events and it was even good to see "behind the scenes" stuff. :)
This is a darn good RUclips video. Shooting wide like you did is an eye opener that I had not thought of. Lesson learn. Some like tight shots others like a bit more wider. I guess it depends on what the photographer is after and how he/she sees it. Congrats on a super video.
congratulations Jared, that is an incredible experience. i had a very similar experience in july photographing Rage Against the Machine from the pit, 2 metres away from the band was surreal. i had a moment when they started playing Bulls On Parade.
thank you for sharing this with us.
When we were hangin' here earlier this summer, we had no idea our Phillies would be in the series! Great vid! Great times!!!
No kidding!!! And GREAT show here in Philly, you guys crushed!!!!
Dawn the vignetting on the 14-35mm canon @14:12 is horrendous 😳
Great job! As a local lifelong Phillies phan I’m hoping to see a future WS video. I always enjoy your technical content but having an emotional tie to the topic takes it to another level.
On the action shots, were you using shutter priority mode? Thanks!
Great video. Thank you for sharing. Really like the break downs of your work flow.
Thanks for bring us along on an awesome experience!

This is exactly how it felt when I got accreditation to the UEFA Women's Euro tournament this year - managed to get into the final and photograph England winning their first major trophy since 1966 (and the Lionesses' first ever major piece of silverware).
When full-time went and we all started making our way to the area sectioned off for the trophy lift, I knew I'd made it. I've only been doing sports since last October and to be there, as an accredited member of the media, and photograph such an historic event? Absolutely incredible feeling. Never gets old.
Jared, you had the Cannon 400 2.8, but about the Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x Lens?? Wouldn't that have been a better option??
@29:40 I love that shot and one with fan giving the bird but most of all it's that hit with ball in the air and very one looking at it like everyone synced love the pics Jared ☺️
This was awesome! Thank you for shooting this video, though I was worried about where you were going to leave your gear😀
Also, good call on the hearing protection. I use it all the time when on the track as 500hp engines generally aren't that quite
DREAM SHOOT! So fun. Clearly Fro Knows and shows from experience, not pixel peeping, that Canon is the sports king and adapted glass is the choice of pros.
Normaly just watch and enjoy your work and idears. but today is differant. Loved it. thank you so much for shawing this . realy enjoyed it.
Why doesn’t the netting show in the pictures? Also, why does the netting not interfere with the auto-focusing? Thanks!

Absolutely incredible, talk about happenstance. From the possibility of becoming a presidential photographer with Bernie’s photo story to now getting a photo pass to shoot the Phillies game where they make it through the play offs. What luck! Can’t wait for the photo book!! Your an inspiration Jared
Would a 100-400 work in a situation like that? (Shooting from the 1st base line.)
How do you record the A1 EVF without an external monitor?
Dope video
I love the idea of capturing the moment, that captures the momnet.
Awesome content Jared ... very inspiring and as always, very educational .
Great vid & congrats for getting on field! You sell the game highlight photos? Just curious. Thanks for any replies.
This was an awesome video Fro. I'm definitely gonna watch again later.
Question - what restrictions, if any, do you have with respect to your use of the images you captured?
They are meant for editorial purposes, I will not sell them to anyone.
@@froknowsphoto How about artistic use? Can you publish them in something like a zine?
Fascinating and extremely cool. Love the way your passion and skill combined with the opportunity to produce some career moments for you . . . and the way you shared the details of all that with us. And you never lose your critical eye, either. Just beautiful all the way around. Thank you.
As always Thanks, your thoughts/framing on the team photo reminded me of the way you captured Peter McKinnon several years ago.
Great video Jared really enjoyed it great content and great sound really made me excited just like being with you at the game
as always.... fantastic video.... been a huge fan for a long time.... Congrats on getting on the field.... I had a moment like that when I got to shoot David Ortiz when a sick child from Wisconsin came to meet him. I all access and I was the only still photographer for the entire day!! Best photo experience of my life....
Thanks Jarrod great insight into the game and your perspective of the shoot. Cheers John. 👍
Hi Jarrod did I win something??😀
What is the device attached to your monopod that allows the camera to be mounted either horizontally/vertically? The camera changes orientation when you're walking at 12:40. Been trying to find something like that for months.
that's just the lens collar with lenses like that.
@@froknowsphoto Thanks for the reply. I saw a photographer have a device like I was describing, but forgot the name she told me. Any idea? It wasn't an L-bracket.
Great video. I feel your excitement, go Phillies, what a fantasy to be up front photographing them. Great points about going wider to capture context. Love the inside view of where the press spots are.
Love this episode… makes me miss shooting sports!
Awesome video, makes me want to fly across the pond to watch a game and get some pics. Nice one Jared.😬👍
