The Amazon ethernet adapter is only a 100Mbps. Get a 1Gbps ethernet adapter. The USB port on the Fire TV devices are only USB 2, so even if you use a 1Gbps adapter you'll only get a maximum of 480Mbps throughput because of the USB bottleneck, but that's still much better than the 100Mbps you'd be limited to with the Amazon adapter. And, of course, it'll never be faster than whatever speed you're getting from your internet service provider, so you'll want a pretty fast service from your provider to make the 1Gbps (480Mbps) adapter worthwhile.
If you're wanting to connect different rooms in your home with a wired connection, but can't run ethernet cable (like if you're renting or something), I'd recommend using a MOCA 2.5 adapter. It uses your cable's coax wiring and can do speeds up to 2.5Gbps. They work no matter if you currently have cable TV service or not, and even work if you're getting your internet service through your cable TV provider. I've tried different versions of the devices that use the electrical wiring, but none of them come close to the speed and reliability I've experienced with the MOCA 2.5 adapters.

100Mbps is more than enough for everyone on Firestick. Actually, it's 4x more than enough to cover even streaming in 4k. Do to so, you only need internet speed of 25Mbps.
So if you have 30Mbps on Firestick or 1000Mbps, it won't make any difference at all. Cheers.

    • @someoneoncesaid6978
      @someoneoncesaid6978 Месяц назад

@@marko514 - This isn't a fix for people streaming from Netflix or Disney+. 4K streaming needs a _minimum_ of 25Mbps for the highly compressed video from the web. To stream high quality 4K video locally from a media server can easily go over 80Mbps.
Because of the way ethernet works, 100Mbps ethernet is only a theoretical 100Mbps over the absolute best of conditions and not taking 15%~20% of TCP/IP ethernet packet overhead into account. Moving 80+Mbps video over a 100Mbps NIC can cause a bottleneck and buffering / stuttering of the video.
The whole reason why I did what I did in getting a faster ethernet adapter, even if it only bumped it up to a theoretical 480Mbps is because my Plex server was having to do on-the-fly transcoding because the built-in 100Mbps NIC wasn't providing the bandwidth needed to handle the original video bitrate. Overall it was much cheaper to buy the 1Gbps ethernet adapters for the multiple TVs around the house than it was to upgrade my Plex server to be able to handle transcoding multiple video streams on-the-fly. Now, that was a couple years ago, when video cards that were capable of transcoding multiple video streams were hard to get and prices were through the roof, so I'd need to reevaluate the costs if I were doing it again today.

A few months ago I bought an Amazon Fire TV Ethernet Adapter, but couldn't get it to work. I had intended to send it back to Amazon, but was out of the country for a while and so never got round to it. When recently I began having intermittent connection errors on WiFi, I thought it worth investigating the Ethernet Adapter again. It still wouldn't work, but it was connected through a pass through a AuviPal 2-in-1 Powered Micro USB to USB OTG Adapter, that provides a USB port for an external flash drive. Removing that adapter brought it to life. I can't use the flash drive, but I can live without it until I find a better solution. 😄.

I have a 1GB internet speed.. I can get around 893MB/s when wired to the playstation 5.. but wired into the Firestick I get a maximum of 93-95... When I unplug the cable and go by WiFi, somehow it gets a lot quicker and goes to around 340 MBs for the Firestick.
The issue is apparently the the fact that this adaptor has to use a MicroUSB plug to enter the stick which is what limits the data rate so significantly.

Might sound like a silly question but if the Firestick is plugged into the smart tv directly, can’t you then just use an Ethernet cable from the tv to the router to have the same hardwired connection available to the firestick? Or does the firestick need the adapter to connect directly to the router for a stable wired connection?

The tv has its own CPU and the firestick has its own CPU. Each communicates separately with the modem. So as he said below you do need the adapter to hardwire modem to firestick. I did that and saw very minimal increase in speed but I guess everyone's situation is different.

Has anyone had issues with the Amazon Ethernet adapter in that the Firestick does not pick up a wired connection any more?
The first device I had worked fine for about a week or two and then would no longer provide a connection. Rebooted, powered down, unplugged everything, new CAT5 cables and still nothing but wi-fi available from the Firestick.
Got a replacement sent and that picked up the wired connection straight away, then the following day we are back to square one again as per the first model.
Are these adapters muck and am I better off with the UGreen option?
The CAT5 goes from the adapter into a switch, then into the router. Did also try the connection directly to the router pinpointing the adapter is likely again at fault.
Welcome any sensible suggestions or recommendations.

@Free Tech great video but I think it is a little misleading due to wrong selection of tests you had considering it was about hardware. Here is a bit of advice instead of using speed test use analiti iperf3 test. Iperf is beast when it comes to detailed troubleshooting or benchmarking networking hardware. Set up iper3 host on some high speed networked device as example pc with 1Gbps lan to router (or you can use android phone really close to router). Some routers even support iperf3.. No point testing broadband provider speeds if your internal network is in unknown state... On firestick analiti run ipef3 tests to that device/router with different file sizes etc.
What you will find that even so firestick will tell you it has 85Mbps speed its NOT, because iperf3 reveals how unreliable transmission of data is over wifi (you just get peak figure). In reality as example my tv showing 236Mbps is averaging only 50Mbps with downs as low as 10Mbps due to people moving in house and all other interference... Whilst LAN 100Mbps gives continuos reliable 90Mbps. Also speeds will vary on filesizes too, so as example is streaming using 25MB, 50MB, 100MB buffering then your speeds will change too over wifi. Hence why a lot android tv's are sluggish as wifi chips in them just pants not to mention internal storage speeds.... That's also why amazon only tells you can do 1080p on your video with wifi and 4k on ethernet (just iperf gives you more detailed info). Keep in mind that USB to Ethernet adaptors also share speeds with USB ports. So adding any storage would mean slowing down network too (if connected Ethernet). Hence my disappointment in 4k max firestick as it still has usb 2.0 hence why you only get around 300Mbps over Ethernet. By the way I think you could do really good video on regards iperf use and fire stick-router problems. You will be amazed how many router are just pure rubbish too. Android tv's are worst ones. For those having local NAS iperf is godsend for troubleshooting network issues. As example testing android boxes with iperf is first job when you buy one. In nvidia shield community iperf is quite popular tool. Actually iperf and read/write speed tests on storage are ones which are missing in most blogers reviews about tv boxes. Yet these are most important tests giving clear indication how good device is. Keep up mate, like your videos, truly helpful.

@@FreeTech Absolutely understandable, and I think you doing really great job and keeping it as simple as possible. Hence thought would share info as sure you will investigate it more in detail and convert info into more summary type hint. Believe me or not but iperf tests are really great to reveal how well router is performing on high demand networks too. As example scenario load 3 wifi devices streaming video and then do iperf test on one you trying to watch. Some routers just drop packets as mad even so manufacturer declares it can handle up to 32 devices etc...Busy households with kids and mediocre router bandwidth management suffer most. Many bloggers do reviews/benchmarks just on router itself with hardly any devices added claiming how great they are. Yet reality quite different when true scenarios kick in and router truly has to do some hard multitasking.
even so many have mu-mimo still declared speeds and reality can be quite shocking especially under some load. Not to mention clogged wifi channels if you are in crowded street. Still believe decent mesh system these days is way to go rather than any extenders, powerlines etc as much more helpful across most issues/devices. Its funny as some tv manufacturers removed usb-ethernet support leaving with poor ac or 100Mbps which quite useless if you own networked gallery with high bitrate videos 80Mbps+ (look much better than compressed streamed equivalent ). Jellyfish Video Bitrate Test Files are great too if want to know what tv capable of. Many tv's struggle to process even own declared bitrates... Oh and yes as for USB storage expansion - avoid usb sticks, mechanical drives - only SSD I use. Usb sticks usually throttle after few min of operation and have poor speeds. Mechanical drives use more current and slow too. Where SSD usually runs on low currents and blasts some good speeds. These days relatively cheap. Use commando velcro to stick ssd to tv box and its great travel media centre :D

I have just got rid of Virgin TV and as I already have a Firestick in a spare room, I thought .. easy .. just plus it in and there'll be something to watch on the TV (well, RUclips really)
Sadly, the power supply for the firestick is too short, to reach from the TV to the wall socket.
The cable into the 3-pin plug is actually a USB. Do I just buy some form of USB extender (for want of a better term) then insert this between the original USB and therAmazon 3-pin plug, or at thre top end .. from the firestick into the TV
    thanks

Just got new AT&T fiber internet that's 300 mbps. Got a new Amazon firestick 4k max. I did a speed test thru an app I downloaded and it says I'm getting 250 mbps to 350 mbps on the firestick. Well it still pixles and buffers when I watch tv using an app on the firestick ... Do I have too much speed for it?

Got one of the Amazon ethernet adapters and it's worse then when using WiFi 🤦 Any ideas why? When WiFi I get 346mb, when using wired I get 84mb. 🤷 Can't understand it. Plugged directly into the router.
    Anyone else gave this issue?
Is the Amazon adapter limited to 100mbs?
What other options are there available?

  • @MichaelBuchanan-69

I personally use the ethernet adapter that Amazon sells under their name. Works very well. But yes I could use just WiFi as we here in America have overkill for internet speeds. 1gig down and 1 gig up fiber connection. So WiFi to my Firestick that I have connected via ethernet would be around 400mbps if the Firestick would get that speed. I just like having my devices connected via ethernet since I have a switch at home in my basement running cables all over the house. Yep I'm that guy.

Excellent Video! I've been using the Ugreen/OTG solution on my fire sticks for about 3 years. Sometime plug in USB for extra content but have not done so for some time so the Amazon adaptor would have been cheaper. At the time I think I struggled to find anyone with stock! As for Speed, my max internet speed is around 38Mbps and I'm getting 35-36 on the firestick 4k which I actually have in a 1080p HD Sony TV so not to fussed on the 4k front there. My main 4k Sony TV (android) does a good job with 4k streaming at event that relatively slow internet with it's native apps so hence the relocate of the Fire stick!

Don't forget the Amazon adapter is capped out at 100 mb, so if your I.P. is over 100 using Amazon, 100 max is all you will get. Yes, more stability but you're not taking full advantage from you I.P. Your choice.
