Question. I have an old router from 2008 however the Ethernet ports on the router works real well. Still using the 2.5Ghz Wifi, only trouble these days are my neighbors WiFi. So the maximum speed I can get from my Wifi is around 15Mbps my internet is 3Mbps so no biggie. So here is my question. Can I just cheap out an just get the Ethernet adapter or would you recommend that I get a new router.
If you have easy access to run an ethernet cable from your router to your Fire TV stick, that might be your easiest option. If you only have 3Mbps internet, it may not be worth upgrading your wifi if it is working okay for you.
There will rarely be a need for more than 100Mbps for streaming which is probably why they went for 100Mbps for this adapter. The ping didn't really improve, the stability didn't improve much, and the speed of course didn't improve at all. But like you said, if your WiFi is clean then don't bother buying this. It's only for those who have a ton of interference.
Will this device work with any firestick i have the newest one available !issue is i have wifi in the house but it doesnt reach the mancave so thinking of using this device and running ethnet cable from router to mancave ??
It will definitely work with the newest models. I think it only doesn't work with the 1st generation of Fire Stick. All models after that are supported. Should work well for your situation.
Thanks for that, very helpful. I have a mancave built out my back where the WiFi can't get to so this is handy to get my stick out there but I had to buy 20metres of ethernet cable for it to reach.. Well worth it.
Nice step by step instructional video. The Firestick 4Ks are a great device but has that all to common issue of choking down internet speed when hardwired like a lot of the under $50 devices have. I believe Nvidia Shields and Apple TVs both have Gig rated Ethernet ports.
A lot of that choking can be due to your ISP too, I needed a new cable modem, old one was ancient, and I was cutting cord and going to firestick only. I had read a lot about buffer bloat, and how it's like a bottle neck at your ISP connection. I got a middle of the road one called an IQ router by Evenrude I think is the name. They claim it analyzes and optimizes your connection over the first week you have it hooked up, and that they focus on quick internet and buffer bloat rather than fast speeds. I didn't change internet speed with my ISP, but I did get a little improvement with the new router, like from 75/85mbps up to around 100/105mbps, so not huge jump, but I started noticing less buffering, and now I very rarely get any buffering, even on HD movies, and we have two firesticks in the house, laptop, and two smart phones. So, I'm pretty happy with it.
@@sunshynff I run around 480 down on a speed test so those 10/100 ports would definitely choke my speed down. That’s why I use 2 Apple TVs. One is hardwired where I see the 480 down.

This test was conducted at the time of this post. I notice there’s a lot less buffering on this device versus the Roku Ultra and Chromecast w/ Google TV. Does it help with the buffering? Would it be better tom get a gigabit ethernet connection? I My internet runs at over 500 but Im getting buffering on some movie apps.
It can help if you have poor wifi connectivity. Buffering should only occur when you start a stream. If it occurs in the middle, it means something is slowing it down. If your wifi is good, it could be being slowed down somewhere prior to arriving to your house. There isn't really an easy way to remedy this. As far as gigabit is concerned, a 4K stream uses around 25Mbps. This can easily be handled by a 100Mbps connection.
I could if you have deficient wifi. If you have a laptop or desktop computer with ethernet, I would try streaming the same service as you are trying to use on your FireTV. If it also buffers, there could be some other factor slowing it down. If it works well, it might be worth giving ethernet a try.
Hi, to fully understand this. Can you tell me where the yellow cable goes and what am I looking for if I buy it. My firestick does around 60 download speed. Thanks
The yellow wire is an ethernet cable. It goes from the adapter to your internet modem or router. They come in a wide variety of lengths. You want the shortest one that will work.
If I ran a 25 foot long ethernet cable from my router to this adapter with my Firestick, would that help solve some of the buffering issues I deal with
It is hard to say exactly what is causing your buffering. Does it work better if the FireTV stick is moved closer to your router? If so, an ethernet cable might help. If it is still slow when close to the router, there may be some other issue slowing it down.
@@Rickmakes My tv is in a seperate room from my router, I don't have any buffering issues with RUclips or Amazon Prime, only with an IPTV streaming service. So it may be just that or maybe there is too much going on in the bandwidth causing the problem. I did order the adapter and a 30 foot long ethernet cable, it's worth a try.
Trust me ethernet is much much better. not only are your download speeds probably going to double its also going to be so much more stable than wifi. Give it a try please
If it is working for you and your wifi isn't overloaded, there is probably no need to change it. That being said, sometimes wifi can be degraded if you are too close to the router. This would be akin to standing next to a loudspeaker at a concert. It is better to be back a ways. Again though, if it is working, might as well leave it.
@@RickmakesI wanted to say after taking what you said into account and doing some research of my own I ended up wiring up my fire stick and I'm very pleased with the results thank you.
My Vizio Smart TV is about 5 years old. When we connect the Fire Stick to the TV, it works for a very short time and then gives me errors messages (no internet etc). The TV is connected to the router and ethernet to the TV. Hulu said that their app needs 8mg to run properly. Do you think this adapter will solve my problem? It's much easier to use the Fire Stick remote over the TV remote. Thanks.
If you think that a poor wifi signal is causing your issue, then the ethernet adapter should help. If you have a computer with ethernet, you could try connecting it to the router and trying Hulu. If it works well in that configuration, I'm guessing the Fire TV Stick would also benefit from Hulu.
I have no other option for internet/ wifi . I have a separate android cellphone that I have to use as a mobile hot spot. Is there any way I can install an ethernet cable to my firestick and plug it into the cellphone mobile Hotspot.

What kind of router do you have?? My family has issues with this kind of stuff and we have a new router from like 6 months ago. But we don’t use Ethernet at all.
I use a ASUS router but this would be plugged into my Netgear or EnGenius switch. I'm not sure which one. This could be plugged into the network port of a router if you have one available. If your network ports are full, you could easily add a small switch.
Is there anyway to hook this up to ethernet without wi-fi and use my pc seperately while my wife watches tv. Basically one ethernet split to pc and firestick.
You will need a ethernet switch for that, or if you have a old router laying around you can use that by plugging the ethernet cord into the internet port of the router and plug in two more ethernet cables to the router then to your PC and firestick adapter.
I just bought a new firestick tv 4k, and is not reading the ethernet cable, the old firestick does but not this one, need help figuring why is not working.

I already have a direct ethernet connection on my Smart TV. Will I also need to connect one to my FireStick? That would be 2 ethernet connections going to that TV on different ports. Thanks!
The TV and FireStick would need separate ethernet connections. You can install a small switch at the TV so you don't have to run a cable all the way back to your router.

I tried the latest Amazon Ethernet adapter followed all instructions and advice and it would not work with my 4K Amazon fire stick and it would not connect or recognize my internet connection to my modem !
Do you have another device (computer, laptop, gaming system, etc...) you can test your ethernet connection with? It would be nice to rule that out being the cause of the issue. If you can, test using the same cable as you tried with your Fire ethernet adapter.
Hi, just got this amazon ethernet adapter for my firestick, I'm only getting 91mbps with it connected as a hardwire connection. And 250mbps over the WiFi. Does anyone know if this adapter is limited on speed? I have cat6 cable. Thankyou :)
In my tests with the ethernet adapter, I only got a few Mbps more than you did. This is a 100Mbps adapter so it is limited. I'm curious, do you have some use case where you need more than 91Mbps?
@@Rickmakes thanks for your reply rick. @@Verstrappen FHD streams are only around 5Mbps so the Ethernet isn’t the bottleneck. Even the higher UHD 4K are only around 25Mbps so 100Mbps can handle that too. Where higher speed could come in handy is with downloading large files quickly but the Fire TV stick doesn’t have storage.

You don't happen to be using a 1st generation Fire TV Stick? I don't think it is compatible with that model. Do you see ethernet in the network setting on the Fire TV?
Ours died after 1 year... if you have a 5GHz wifi connection then there is zero point getting this. (aka unless your wifi is terrible, there is ZERO difference)
I think many would probably consider it to get faster speeds but wifi is technically faster. I think the adapter is mainly for people who want less wifi congestion or who have bad wifi. If a person want's faster speed, this isn't going to get them that. That being said, this would theoretically support around four 4K netflix streams simultaneously so it is faster enough for most people.
So aPPARENTLY MY pHILLIPS sMART tv ISN'T RECOGNIZING THE ETHERNET CABLE THROUGH THE ADPTER...SO I JUST HOOKED THE ETHERNET TO THE SMART TV AND LEFT THE FIRESTICK TO CONNECT WIFI..GOT SPEEDS HALF MY TOTAL ISP BANDWIDTH BUT OH WELL...SUCK AT LIFE..!
On the contrary. If this was the only thing in the network, then it wouldn't gain me anything. My network is much more complex. Hooking this to ethernet minimizes wifi congestion.
But why do You have to speak like You are in a competition for fast talkers? Normal speech would be soooooo much more usefull. We all know You are a smart geek, but many on RUclips watching and listening are not. So, can You not speak to the geek crowd only?
Wifi might be faster but ethernet is fast enough to stream four 4K streams. Ethernet makes sense for people with a poor or congested wifi network. Putting the Fire TV on ethernet frees wifi up for other things.

I have a Fire Cube with an external storage adaptor. How will I be able to use both when there's only one port?
You might be able to connect them in series but I unfortunately don't have a Fire Cube to test that on.
Does the ethernet go to the tv or the router?
Router.
Do I REALLY need this if my wifi router is like 2 feet away from my fire stick (latest 4K max model)?
Wired is always better for video even if you have faster WiFi
The adapter work with Amazon fire HD tablet?
Unfortunately I don't have one to test it on. If the HD tablet supports USB OTG, I'm guessing this might work.
I have no other option for internet/ wifi . I have a separate android cellphone that I have to use as a mobile hot spot. Is there any way I can install an ethernet cable to my firestick and plug it into the cellphone mobile Hotspot.
If your hotspot serves internet up over ethernet, that should work.
Can we connected mi stick to this adapter
I did some searching online and I don't think the Mi Stick supports USB OTG or ethernet. I think the Mi Box might, but not the Mi stick. That being said, I don't have one to test.
Use the stick as a storagee
I have 500mgs download speed from my router, which is located under my TV,with Wi-Fi I get buffering,on Firestick 4k max, with an Enternet cable wired I get 93mps download, which the cable is set to 100mgs per second, and still have buffering issues-what’s wrong,I was looking for an enternet cable that would give me more than 100ngs download,as I want to give my Firestick more power,to stop buffering-any suggestions, thanks

@@tshoguncainion9836 Thank you.
Sacrificed your IP address to help us with the Ethernet adapter. Ty
I just bought a new firestick tv 4k, and is not reading the ethernet cable, the old firestick does but not this one, need help figuring why is not working.
That is odd. You do have the same ethernet adapter as in this video, correct? I would make sure your Fire TV Stick has the latest updates installed. You could try resetting it to see if that works. Also, try removing any wifi networks if any are set up on it.
@@Rickmakes I have a different ethernet adapter, USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapter thats the one am using but it seems not working with the new firestick 4k I just bought couple days ago, only works with the older version

I have an amazon 55" TV (not firestick). The TV has an ethernet port. But when i plug in my ethernet into the back of the TV it does not recognize it all. What's going on?? Can you fix this for me? Any ideas.
Do you have another device you can test the ethernet with, like a laptop? I would do that first. Next, when you plug the ethernet in to the TV, does the indicator light light up on your switch or router for the other end of the ethernet cable?
I tried the latest Amazon Ethernet adapter followed all instructions and advice and it would not work with my 4K Amazon fire stick and it would not connect or recognize my internet connection to my modem !
Do you have another device (computer, laptop, gaming system, etc...) you can test your ethernet connection with? It would be nice to rule that out being the cause of the issue. If you can, test using the same cable as you tried with your Fire ethernet adapter.
Same
While it is a shame that it isn't faster than a 5G wireless network, I do like the idea of freeing up the WiFi.
Even if your WiFi is far faster than the 100mbs the wired connection will provide better picture, speed and audio.
The amazon Ethernet adapter is 100 MB passthrough.
Yes i found out last night after doing a bit more research that its only capped to 100mbps, which is frustrating because amazon didnt state this was the case haha. Well my broadband speed is 350mbps so why not utilise all of it i guess? Id want to watch in FHD with no buffering but at 91mbps that would surely cause some buffering issues
@@Rickmakes oh ok i didnt realise the streams were such low usage of mbps, however saying that my friend has a firestick and the wifi speed test of the network is only getting 35mbps and all streams constantly buffer? Tried it at my house on the wifi and all is good.
guys this dude doesn’t know what he is talking about he said WiFi is faster than Ethernet lmao
Did you watch the video? I literally show the 5Ghz AC wifi as being faster than the 100Mbit ethernet. If this supported gigabit ethernet, then the ethernet could be faster than wifi but as I also showed, gigabit isn't really necessary for streaming video.
The download went down
Where does the Ethernet go on Modem
They might be labeled "LAN" ports. Sometimes the ports will just have numbers over them.
I attached a cat7 cable between my firestick 4k and my router and the firestick still shows it is using wifi. The firestick is the latest version. Any ideas?
Does it work using ethernet if you disconnect from wifi on the Fire TV? Also, is the ethernet light on on your switch?
@@Rickmakes I tried turning off wifi and my firestick just stopped working. I have a linksys wrt3200ac and it shows an ethernet cable connected. On another RUclips video it works and a 2 terabyte ssd drive is also connected to give very fast speed!

I've just used this for the first time and it's much slower than the WiFi.
Can anyone point me to a 1000 mb Ethernet adapter that works on Amazon devices??
The USB OTG interface is only USB 2.0 so it won't support 1000mb ethernet. I tested it anyway with a few gigabit adapters and none of them worked. It did work with a USB OTG adapter and a USB 2.0 to ethernet adapter but only at 100mb. Do you have a specific use where you need gigabit? I can't think of any software on the Fire TV Stick that could utilize it.
Amazon basic ethernet adapter
I've seen that connecting this to a gigabit ethernet switch could cause some troubles to use the stick? anyone tried?
I've been running mine on a gigabit switch with no problems.
These only do 100 mb.

Ours died after 1 year... if you have a 5GHz wifi connection then there is zero point getting this. (aka unless your wifi is terrible, there is ZERO difference)
Have we really reached a point where this question is necessary?🤔
This adapter isn't for supplying internet to your smart tv. Did you have it connected properly?
Didn't do anything for you...
On the contrary. If this was the only thing in the network, then it wouldn't gain me anything. My network is much more complex. Hooking this to ethernet minimizes wifi congestion.

Wifi might be faster but ethernet is fast enough to stream four 4K streams. Ethernet makes sense for people with a poor or congested wifi network. Putting the Fire TV on ethernet frees wifi up for other things.
