Great and insightful video on an unexplored topic. I have a few questions and inquiries and would greatly appreciate your response: 1) A common talking point I hear is that the BF series has become too casual starting with BC/BF3/BF4/BF1/BFV. Do you agree with this or not? Do older BFs really take more skill or is has there been a reverse trend? 2) What would the minimum required features be in order for BF3 to be attract the general competitive population of BF2/BF2142? Can BF3 even be considered a true successor to BF2 with all of these features missing? 3) I noticed that BC2 was not mentioned in the video. Did 8v8 rush not provide a competitive scene or were certain game mechanics like destruction too anti-competitive? 4) Comparing BF2 with BF3/BF4 fighter jets and helicopters, which ones took more skill to become proficient at? Were the differences in hours needed to improve noticeable or negligible? I generally don't play with air vehicles so idk despite playing a lot on all of these games.
Hey. Thanks for the questions! Ill do my best to answer. 1) The answer to this is yes, the BF games have become more "casual" over time, but to me that falls less on player skill or the skill ceiling of a game and more the lack of competitive options for newer battlefields. Remember, competitive is the complete antithesis of casual. Not having competitive modes or tools by default makes a game more casual since there isnt any outlet for the other. I would also argue that with battlefield games being increasingly focused toward console gamers as well as a long extended campaign system, the time and resources, hell even the attempt, to properly include competitive options gets put on the back burner. As far as skill ceilings go, the variables between each game are so numerous that i couldnt possibly offer a concise response to that other than: There are more important problems to deal with first. 2) By any standard measure, there is no reason to argue against BF3 being the successor to BF2. Yea, of course things are drastically different in BF3 and features are missing, but the community at large was never going to embrace BF2 forever. As a side note, a comparison might be drawn to Starcraft:BW and Starcraft:2 - It's been argued the former was the drastically superior competitive game, and the latter was weaker with respect to gameplay mechanics that were changed. This is my opinion as well. Now, SC2 was MADE for competitive, while BF3 at least held onto the critical features for comp (Mostly), but they are nonetheless the successors. BF3 did once have a thriving competitive scene, it was just different and had a much shorter lifespan. The features that were necessary for competitive BF3 are still there. The thing it would need the most is a working spectator tool. But in all honestly, given the date and current player count, there is almost ZERO chance you could convince enough former players, let alone current players, to compete in anything except maybe 4v4 rush. 3) I make a habit to not speak about things i dont have knowledge of, and as i barely played BC2 I dont have knowledge of its competitive legacy. To my knowledge it existed, but i cannot offer any specifics. That is a question for any competitive BC2 player. 4) Each game offered something different in the area of Jets/Helos. Helos in BF2 were drastically different from how they play in BF3/4, as the TV missile works completely different to how it worked in 2. The missile was also much stronger in 2. That being said, the thing that makes a helo strong isnt necessarily its pilot or weapons, but the counters to it, and in that regard it is definitively more difficult to use helos in BF4 due to the amount of tools and vehicles which can counter them. This makes them play more passive, and puts a far higher skill demand on both the pilot and gunner to do well. As for jets, I am no expert but have used them enough across all games to argue that those of bf4 are the most difficult to play, once again because of the amount of counters, but more so due to the significant nerfs made to them from BF3 to BF4. BF2 Jets were insanely powerful, however, there was much luck involved there, from hoping your flares and heatseekers worked to the limited draw distance. Hope that answers your questions :)

Other games have shooter side hit registration for years it is simpler faster and allows people to never get bad hitreg and the spectator to see the actual pov of the player. This video is fantastic and man do I have some great memories of BF2....but the DICE of today only cares about MTX....they lost the pride of making a great game for just having fun and also a great game for competitive play. DICE has all but killed Battlefield.
Saying that BF4 was a "resurgence" of competitive play is laughable. BF4 was a massive step down from BF3. It had a fraction of the teams and players that BF3 did. The only thing it had going for it was developer sponsored leagues. The fact that teams and player bailed out of the game in droves despite this unprecedented money and the opportunities to travel overseas and compete at LAN, show how tragic the BF4 scene was. The only scene that actually seemed to flourish is SA/Brazil. OCE, NA, EU, Asia had far fewer players and teams than BF3 (a quarter the number at best). It was a downgrade in the metrics that actually matter.
Good video but only seems to include competitive battlefield on pc. On console most notably in battlefield 1 there was a lan event by ESB held in Zurich for ps4 players. You make it sound like it just died completely from BF4 onwards which isn't the case. I do agree however with dice needs to have some type of support for the community.
That was actually an oversight by me. Thanks for bringing it up because it is still very important. Maybe it's because i'm a PC guy and was salty i didnt get to play that game competitively.

With the reveal of battlefield portal in bf2042, do you guys think that we have the tools to revive the competitive scene?
Portal will give us the most configuration tools in a BF game since BF4. I think there will be competitive play without question, and it could be huge. The only lingering issue is the current lack of a spectator mode, and no confirmation about it. This will make broadcasting it difficult.
Epic fail
Where did you find the videos ar the CGI? Ive been scowering the internet for them but cant find anything.
Here you go. They are definitely hard to find. ruclips.net/video/q6EWc1Kz10o/видео.html
Nice vid👌👍
Oui !
And then 2042 said screw off, casual stats are too much to even be displayed, let alone community features.
@@GravityBFTV U should do a collab with CodeName__Deus he is being on console comp from the very start 🐼👍. Dont worry I didnt know much about PC so at some point we were all kinda isolated.
This is a good video. I think you went a bit overboard with what you're asking from them on the server tool side, which made the video very long. A shorter and more concise video might have better chances of reaching anyone in charge
Well I mean portal is confirmed to basically have everything he wanted
Gravity we all commend you man good work. However deep down we all know these people in charge of delivering us what you listed have zero interest of doing so. I feel bad because its a business decision for them, all of those require man-power hours that they simply are not willing to spend. Why? Can't sit here and say its all for the $, but it looks like it is.
The recipe is out there, they literally can do if they want to. Lets see how they treat us in BF6..
(_1_)caveman8fb - Love the video, wish a competitive BF2 style replacement would come out so that I could sponsor a team under the Binary name
cai approves :)
Sad to watch this, knowing now the absolute shitshow of a game 2042 turned out to be.
Yeet
DEAD GAME
