Day time SQUID fishing NZ - land based squid action

- Can you catch squid land based in the daylight hours, the little known squid fishery of no is predominantly dominated with night time attempts, but can you catch them in the day using the eging techniques to up your catch rate.
Mike embarks on an adventure to one of his favourite squid grounds to put this theory to the test, casting yamashita squid lures out over the shallow weed beds to target squid during the daytime hours.

Nice video! Good to see some daytime action, still need to try this spot. Weather a bit rough recently but might try my luck up north auk area when we get some calm days. Those orange yamas are great at night. Still not giants at this time of season which is suprising
They’re from a recent spawn, a lot of big ones still around however

Good stuff John! Do you find the jigs that rattle are better for catching squid?
Most of the yamashita jig do. You’ll hear al the clicks and stuff under water so yeah I think they do. There will be some scientific reason behind them. But same as diving lures generally have a rattle too

Awesome, love fresh squid. How often does that happen, don't bring the casting gear and it's a guarantee there will be something busting up haha. Cool vid mate.

Good haul mate, how'd you know you were going to drop that one on the lift? It was a big one?
Could see how it was hooked, on the very tip of the candle, real week point to hook them on
Did you or your mate get any snags while filming this? it looked pretty rocky there. Just wondering because no one shows snags on their videos, only the fun stuff.
It becomes a bit of a rarity to snag once you work out the sink rates and areas in which to cast, worst case of you do snag you get a knack of de snagging then over the years.... don’t often loose much these days
Was a good spot - have noticed a sharp decline since the stairs were installed.

Really depends on the area and time of the year I do prefer it in the day time as usually it’s a bit more challenging
