LAND BASED Squid NZ

- First day we're allowed to fish after the lock down relaxed. Fishing for Land based Squid (calamari) on squid jigs egi style. Avoiding traffic jams created by Mac donald's and KFC drive through openings
We arrived at the spot and first threw some micro jigs around to do a bit of shore jigging for snapper and kahawai or what ever else would have a go. After a few missed hits it was time to chase the squid. With the light dropping rapidly, this is prime time to target land based squid in New Zealand. How to catch squid on New Zealand? there is lots of different methods but we prefer to use egi fishing NZ to catch ours. This is still early season for NZ squid so they are smaller than the squid you would get squid fishing Australia. also note they are also broad squid not southern calamari, there is a slight difference apparently.
Hopefully next session we go land based squid fishing in NZ they will be bigger and more of them.

Well you did better than me. I didn't get a thing fly fishing around my area in the morning so no vid from me. First time in months I had nothing. Didn't even film a backup either.

@@AdriftFishing its been a while and tbh i aint a fan of the place but i did catch there b4. perch, rudd and trout. this time of the year the trout should b in close and maybe some perch too

Not really, most light 2-4kg rods will do the trick. You’ll just have better feel and probably better catch rates with one when your skill level is up
