- How to catch squid New Zealand. Egiing for squid NZ off the rocks. Michael Walkley shows some EGI techniques and tips as we have an epic land based squid session throughout the night.
Land based squid NZ, with the squid moving in over winter we decided to brave the cold weather and fish for some local squid. using yamashita 2, 2.5 and 3.5 squid jigs we managed a dozen in this session. Squid are found all up the New Zealand coast line. Any where with some weed and low current is worth a try. And with the right gear and technique you can find a nice feed even in the centre of the city. NZ squid fishing.

the only way i've seen squid caught is simply with a float and the jig. pretty cool to see there are other methods on getting those squid.
Yeah man this way is heaps more fun and more effective than float bobbing man

Nice my dudes, hows the squidding in NZ? Gotta put the work in or are they everywhere? How goods that Yamashita rods. Had a play with one the other day. I need to get myself a dedicated EGI rod.
Hey dude yeah that’s what I keep saying here the squid game is bloody hard work compared to oz. cold winter nights for a hand full of squid. Man I would sight cast them on the flats and lunchtime in 40 degree for something to do haha!
The egi rods do make a big difference man. I got one back home and it’s a gomoku specific egi one and its good but not as good as the yamashita.

Usually keep the off however hard to make a clip in the dark hahaha
