  • Jeff Gordon snaps a 66 race winless streak dating back to Texas in 2009; say what you want about Alan Gustafson, but I think all of us need to be grateful he brought him out of that slump so early in the season.

    Still got 10 more W’s.
It was kind of hard to believe 93 would be possible the way he ran for a few years there.
    But he got it.
    4 Championships 🏆 93 Victories 🏁
1 of Thee Best to ever do it. ☝️

I remember being so excited about this because prior to this his previous win was the spring race at texas in 2009, that was a looong gap since his previous win

I'm surprised KB admitted defeat from Jeff Gordon without some type of rant.

Thankfully he hit it square; probably why no real chassis damage happened.

THE WAY NASCAR SCREWED JEFF GORDON WAS THE INSANE CHANGES TO SOMETHING THAT WAS NOT NEEDED TO BE FIXED. THE NEW STANDARDS THAT NASCAR ADOPTED STUNTED JEFFS CHANCES OF BEATING JIMMIE JOHNSONS STREAK
STILL MAKES ME SICK NASCAR TANKED JEFF'S CAREER BY CHANGING HOW YOU RACE.
THE CHANGES REALLY DESTROYED THE SPORT AND FAN SUPPORT LOSES PUSH EVERY YEAR AFTER

2014 will forever piss me right off, stupid system, Ryan Newman ramming Larson out of the way was BS, don't even get me started on Keselowski driving like a bafoon and screwing us at Texas. Two seconds in the third round, top 5 car every single week, just for Newman, who was barely a top 15 car most weeks, sneaks in. Make it make sense.

It took Jimmie Johnson 16 full seasons to get 83 Wins. For Jeff Gordon, 19. Damn, guess those seasons from 2008-2010 really affected Gordon in a bad way.

Jeff Gordon Edits yeah, but I still think when you look back on those years where Jeff was winning once for the next three years, it's no wonder Johnson closed the gap so quickly. And we're talking about someone who has never won 13 races in a season. But no matter what, it is what it is.

If anyone wants to boast JJ over JG, ask them how many modern era records Johnson has to compared to Gordon. That will shut them up real fast.

Both have to remember NASCAR created the chase format to stop Jeff from winning. If you use the NASCAR format from the 90s Jeff would've had 8 or more championships. But its the way the cards fall. But then you also have to remember Jeff's name is on Jimmie's car ownership as co owner.

It was a great place to break his 66 race winless streak. The place that where he tied Dale Earnhardt at 76. Awesome that he tied Cale Yarborough at 83. Truly amazing. I think Alan Gustafson was a good crew chief but seriously, I think if Hendrick Motorsports didn't take Steve Letarte away from Jeff Gordon, they would have won that 5th championship. With Steve as his crew chief they came so close a couple of times. I just think he needed a little more. Personally I think the biggest mistake Rick Hendrick made was moving the 24, 5, 88, and 48 around in their shops. It made the 88 run better but it made the 24 get worse. The 24 & 48 should have stayed together, where they had been since 2002 when the 48 was formed using half the cars that the 24 had in their championship season in 2001.

Letarte? The guy who have us one win in three years?! No thank you, a change was needed, Steve couldn't be the stern leader Jeff needed him to be, Letarte even admitted it later on after Jeff retired that he just wasn't able to fulfill that role for him. I'm also glad the 24 and the 48 were separated, Jeff was doing too much to help the 48 while Chad and JJ weren't doing anything near what Jeff was to help his team. It was a completely one sided relationship in that garage and to be frank I think Jeff's willingness to help made the 48 team faster than they otherwise would have been.
