@@MisterBearNaked You and I must be soul-mates ; definitely Jane at her most charming, along with the rest of the cast. Most people choose “7 Brides” but I find it alarmingly sexist these days despite the great score and fun dancing.
RIP Ann Miller (1923-2004, 81 years old) and Debbie Reynolds (1932-2016, 84 years old). Jane Powell (1929-present, 92 years old as of 2021) is the last surviving cast member in this video.
I love this kind of understated choreography. The tapping of their feet in unison, the clever cross overs that have them changing positions on the bench, Debbie's extended arm and slight shimmy as she crosses. Sheer delight!
My two favorite movies of all time are You Can't Take It with You and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and I grew up watching Singin' in the Rain over and over. Was NOBODY going to tell me that Ann Miller, Jane Powell, and Debbie Reynolds were in a musical together???? What a treat! This song is laugh out loud funny and not nearly long enough. 😆
That was adorable! And the women look like.... women. I remember my mom wearing dresses like that. No wonder Dad looked at her with such devotion and affection.
JANE: Why, oh why and wherefore is there no one to care for me DEBBIE: I've been told that there's a man for me, but where is he ANN: Wake up, girls, and stay awake Don't you know it's all a fake Men are nature's big mistake ALL: But they're very necessary DEBBIE: Why should I be frantic when I'm in this romantic mood JANE: Guys are so contrary, and most of them are very rude ANN: They take your heart, and break your heart ALL: They're all so undependable, and yet they're not expendable But why, oh why and wherefore does no one seem to care for me JANE: Why, oh why and wherefore does no one seem to care for me DEBBIE: Why, oh why and wherefore ALL: Does no one seem to care for me
Really? What did you expect? Was Ann supposed to start tapping her way around Jane and Debbie? The number is fine the way it is. Ann got her chance to show off her tapping later in the film.
I've seen so many of these "Hit the Deck" clips that I should really just watch the movie at this point.
Of all of Jane's films, this has always been my favorite. It's what inspired me to make this channel
@@MisterBearNaked Ok I'm gonna watch it then!
@@AishawithanEye did you watch it?

The intro slaps yasss
'Men'
'You can have 'em'
'I don't want 'em'
"Why should I be frantic when I'm in this romantic mood?" Idk why but the delivery of that line makes it my favorite part
👍🏽
The golden age of hollywood. It will never be the same.
Let's hope that someday this type of talented, classy art will make a comeback. 🙏
@@nefertitiqueenofthenile5320 It will come back only if people pay money to see it at their nearest theatre...and you know they won't.

Jane Powell is now dead
Jane Powell’s voice is such a beautiful addition to Debbie’s and Ann’s

So much talent in front of the camera here. I just wish they had better material to work with.

Was that Jane's real voice?
Yes, she was a famous soprano, who started her professional career at 14. 🎶
Jane did not use ghost singers.
Men aren't actually necessary, girls! Ditch them and start a commune! You don't have to put up with this! You deserve better! I believe in you!
Man-hating isn't the way to go either girl. Women need men and men need women.
Destiny Men aren’t a necessity neither are women to men
