As I familiarize myself with Ann's work, I've noticed that she has a unique physical quality in the way she uses her legs... from the knee down. It's the inward or outward turn/twist combined with her ankle position. It gives her such a unique "glide" in her step. It's so gracefully smooth in its appearance. Take that and adorn it with a big, winning smile, and she's simply a champ! Pure gold!
Ann Miller was gorgeous and multi-talented.She should have been better served by Hollywood. One can only imagine how brilliant she would have been in Annie Get Your Gun, Kismet, Silk Stockings, Hello Dolly and Mame. I can dream, can't I ?

She seemed to always have a contract with some studio in Hollywood in the 20 years of her film career. Ann danced on every sound stage in Hollywood including Paramount, RKO, Columbia and MGM.
@@taylordowning2533 have you heard the album from the show "sugar babies"? In her sixties she belted out "don't blame me" from that show. I was so surprised and shocked that she had developed into a superb singer. Perfection personified and electrifying! In this song, towerings with the greats-Judy Garland and Eydie gorme! She's basically only remembered for the best tap dancer ever but after hearing this now, she should have been one of the greatest triple threat Stars. So sad. 🤔😟👍🤗♥️
'Hit the Deck' is a formulaic production full of borrowings. Even Hermes Pan's choreography is tired. The opening of this song sounds like a parody such as Mel Brooks's 'The French Mistake' in 'Blazing Saddles'. Ann wears her plastered-on grin as Martin serenades her, and her tapping asks no more of her than one of her b&w programmers when she was a spirited kid at RKO. Contrast with her masterpiece of two years before, 'I Gotta Hear That Beat' from 'Small Town Girl'. I can sit through most musicals before 'West Side Story', but you can sense the production line grinding to a halt here.
