Yeah, imagine it costing you £60 every few weeks, or even after 1 or 2 packs through it. Arrma showcased it at the skatepark on their promo video… so they can’t say miss use 😅
When I started this RC thing back in the 80's, my first car accepted a Ni-Cd battery into a compartment on the bottom, with a removable plastic door. A brushed 540 turned plastic gears, metal driveshafts, and ultimately propelled a plastic car body to about 25mph. So... we've come full circle, lol. My granddaughter is going to have a blast with this thing, and I'm happy that I know _exactly_ what she'll go through while learning RCs, (unlike the rest of her upbringing that is so foreign to me, lol). But, she's also a Tomley subscriber though, so there's hope!
I initially thought they had lost their mind with it not being 4wd and not having a solid rear axle. However, watching the video, it's like a love letter to the Tamiya Lunchbox. Not the fastest, but great fun to drive and wheelies for fun. I really like it.
Every so often, I'll sit down and take a look at what other youtubers in the RC scene are up to. Haven't done it for a while. This video - wow. Love the edits, the pacing, variety of settings and angles and so on. NICE work on this one, Phil. I'm an admirer! (My boyo is loving the Gorgon here too. Top shelf review) Cheers
Great video, we love the switch trick. As a family of 7 we have a Mojave, 3 Kraton 4sv2, 2 Slash 2wd, an MT10 3s, all very capable and fast but the Gorgon reminds me of my childhood in the 80's owning/driving a 2wd monster truck thats just fast enough for the front yard is nostalgic, we now have 3 Gorgons and waiting for more of your awesome videos, Cheers from California.
I've been watching you for some time now and i really like how you set up showing a rc car your informative, funny and you actually show how to have fun with an rc car besides just trying to see it's limits your entertaining to watch. thank you
As always, appreciate the video! 2wd monster truck (even brushed) is still one of the best RCs for kids or people getting into the hobby. Wheely fun, durable, and affordable. Well done Arrma.
I agree! And not just the RUclips channels. I watch The Great British baking show and Repair shop simply because of how well the people in the UK truly get along and genuinely like one another! Totally different vibe than here in the US
I have one, I am just back into the hobby after many years, I got it so I had something to share with my 7 year old daughter. We have been out with it quite a bit and loved it. I am far happier passing over the control to this than some of its more expensive counterparts. I think for what it is its a good truck as we aren't bashing on it to quite the same level as skate parks.
My friend got the kit and built it up with his daughter, they had a blast and go out together almost every day. Thats exactly the demographic. Cheap and cheerful right? Id say mission accomplished Arrma, well done.
Heading out in that weather was a real dedication to the production of this video! thank you for that! Luckily the clear body here in the US is only $20
This is pretty smart of arrma TBF. Whenever I see people asking what's good for a first timer, for some reason people always suggest 2wd entry platforms. Arrma are tapping into that, offering a durable 2wd platform with upgrade paths built in. That will eventually lead to new customers wanting to explore their bigger and faster platforms.
Just got mine yesterday, the ARTR version and I love it!. It's tough, fun to bash, quite fast for a brushed car and easy to assemble. Really really love it!
Seems your house was safe from the flood thankfully! Great video, thanks for going outside in the rain for this, it was actually pretty cool to see the Gorgon in the water & Mud! So happy there's a build it yourself version, I wanted to get into the hobby but couldn't find anything interesting in kit form outside of Tamya.
I have had a lot of fun with mine, but I held back buying because of the early body replacement prices. I cannot understand why they cannot sell them with just body and no extra parts. The full set is OK if you want a full colour change.
Finally your review have dropped, been waiting for it. Ordered for my 5 year old, for a christmas present. He told me a moth ago that he's to Nikko's is to slow for him and he loves to drive together with me. This is seems about perfect for him with all the upgradeability and cheap parts.
Nice editing on the color changes, had me trippin the first couple of times it went from green to red LOL Also, now I wanna know what my Senton will look like with those tires! Mad Max build!
Nice work Phil!👍😊 I’m enjoying mine in stock form. The older I get the less I feel the need to go silly fast all the time. I think Arrma may have a winner on their hands amongst newcomers and folks like myself who actually prefer to drive 2wd vehicles. Hopefully Arrma will support this platform over the long haul…it drives better than a Stampede!
I had the motor shift as well on the second run of this truck, the pinion shifted away from the spur, easy fix though. Arrma did ok considering their target market (kids) for this one, but I'm not a fan of the body mounting system, and that stock NiMH Battery has to go as well. I have enough fast RC's so will probably not go to brushless on this one, but 2S for sure.
When we used our old Tamiya cars ( many years ago) muddy track were the order of the day. So, I can imagine changing battery packs to be a gritty, messy affair ! Looks good though.
Looks like a fun truck! The footage of it sliding around in those wet conditions was awesome! I think the nickel metal battery is actually a good choice for the target audience. You can always upgrade to Lipo as you progress in the hobby. The pricing and durability of the stock body is outrageous 😮 I think I will stick to my old brushless stampede, but entry level vehicle's to help bring in new people to our awesome hobby are always welcome. Just dont scare them off with overpriced lexan!!
Well the proof is there Tomley... Drips do get wet!!! 🤣. Only Joking matey... Great video. I like the Gorgon. Nice compact design, great for kids and it can easily be upgraded. Apart from the body it looks pretty tough aswell. I am waiting for the Granite Grom though!!!
Wonder how they take running in the wet? I ran a Clodbuster from the 80's and never had a problem running in the wet. Bearings handled it fine. Thirty years on, my Armma Mojave, had bearings seize up if it was run in the wet and not ckeaned for hours.
I shoe-gooed my body before ever taking it out and have no issues so far even after switching to 3s (3300kv) but I did have to reduce throttle to 75% to make it drivable but it's a blast.. definitely recommend this truck for someone starting out.
I've just got back into RC and I can't even steer the bloody things 😂 I'm ok going one way then when I turn around I'm all over the place, it's quite frustrating 😂😂
Im so glad i went for the brushless version of my strada, seeing the brushed motors at work, its a pale comparison, i dont think i would love it nearly as much as i do with the brushless setup.

For the price and entry-level stage of the truck, the body pricing is pretty ridiculous especially for how flimsy/brittle it is. However, it seems like they nailed everything on the head for their target market - inexpensive and with good agility, handling and speed with Arrma quality remaining. A little bit envious that people get to start with this when I started with the Vorteks...
I just assembled the kit, it was pretty easy very straightforward, what size lipo are you using? mah and C rating ? Also do you have to break in the brushed motor? Thanks great video too
Summertime Miami over there ☔ & concerned about the shorting out issues. 'Pedes have yet to do that & its body options are many. No Home run here , a walk to 2nd more like it.
Okay so it’s been quite a few years but I think it’s about time to bring out the newer wltoys 144010, they’ve updated it a little and I’m trying to speed run mine but idk what parts to get, it’s my first Rc car.
This seems like a Direct Upgrade for the 2WD Stampede, that I started out with 24 years ago and still have. Definitely aimed toward beginners and children. With an NIMH in it, you'd have a hard time ever breaking it.
I have the kit version of the Gorgon and assembled it with one of my kids. Had a good time. The RC itself great for the value and a lot of fun. Going brushless in the future too. Great job with the transition between colours! Added some nice quality and flair to the video!

Tbh I think i'd just pick up a banggood special MT. Same price and tons of cheap spares. Also most of them are 4wd and gives a new driver something to tinker with
The HBX Pro 1/16 that I brought from Bangood, is fast, reliable and can be used anywhere. The spares are super cheap. 35 years of RC experience and this or an MJX Hyper Go, are what I recommend to newcomers.
@@philipjamesparsons Perfect example there. I bought the WLToys 144001. A buggy yes but they seem to base their models on the same or similar chassis. I recently bought the ZD Racing 9116 1/8 MT. Only thing i've broken is the body. But it was self inflicted as I put a 6s esc into it. It's absolutely mental now.
As you have seen the .2 volt increase in voltage on a lipo is a 1 MPh increase. the reason lipo is better is the C rating discharge rate so the lipo will deliver power quicker.
Interesting fact about batteries, there is quite a big difference between NiMh and Lipo, but I do not find there to be a huge difference between the L-ion pack of my HBX 16889A and Lipo of my HBX 16889A Pro when running both packs in the HBX Pro, except that I get a lot longer run time from the L-Ion pack.
You better fookin like this video! 🤣🤣Brilliant! Good on ya mate for getting wet out there for us. Cool review. Hope all is well, sounds like you might have a cold? All the best! 😎👊👍
This is another great review. You gave them a real beating. They faired pretty well. I have seen other RUclipsrs videos and a couple have had the servo saver fail, but ti saves the servo. The only downside in the U.S. is that the replacement servo saver is on back order. I have seen other Youtbers experience the motor moving. The one thing that shows up a lot is the slowness of the included charger. It takes an very, very long time. So, Christmas morning a youngster opens up his new r/c car and has to wait hours for it to charge. I think it's a great truck for the intended audience. I am sure we will see some videos of guys putting on different bodies.
Motor moving is problematic , they should have made a metal plate ... bad design from Arrma . For servo saver fail , just get any other servo saver from other company .. should fit without problem . Why would you get the same Arrma replacement part that will brake again ?? i dont understand.
@@michaeldorich4485 Tamiya high torque servo saver should work too , with its different mouting heads and holes .. just ad spacers if needed . 9 bucks .. 😉
I kinda understand the nimh pack. Most kids will just run the battery all the way down, killing the battery. But cmon, i know that esc have an option for a voltage cutoff. And there are literally cheaper brushless cars with lipo cutoff so there's no excuse.
Well, you got me this time, Phil. Your win. 🤨 (I thought the climate thing was an ad, but then I couldn't find the skip button. 😬) Either way, very interesting truck! It's not my cup of tea, but it's not that bad! About the price of the body, get a freaking toy car and mod it! 😂 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I can't find the no battery version in stock but i have ordered the Hobbywing 10 BL system for it. I'm betting that's about to be really hard to find soon also.
Great video, Tomley, thank you! You're so entertaining to watch :D I really like my Gorgon, got no gripes with it except the motor slipping. It's just so fun to drive. Keep it up :)
Get that man some waterproofs!! Good effort Phil 👍 Good honest real life review. Can't go too wrong for the money, it's buit to a price point for a particular market. As you mentioned, Arrma have already got many many mid to top end trucks as it is anyway. Cheers for all the content 👍
Nicely done all around review. Couldn't agree more about the bodies, but a quick Gorilla tape job seems to have sorted it out. Fun little all around basher, especially based on the cost. I too bought two, one for bashing and one for speed runs. Couldn't be happier

I really like my Gorgon, got no gripes with it except the motor slipping. It's just so fun to drive.
Keep it up :)
Thanks mate. Really appreciate it
I love mine so far!! Takes a beating!
All these free jetboat rapids courses ,Awesome!
Whats the location of the dirt jumps phil, lools like a good spot👍
How long can the battery last approximately? Do you recommend me in general to buy to play with my 6 year old child? thank you
Holy crap that battery is right out of 1999 I remember those lol
Get that man some waterproofs!! Good effort Phil 👍 Good honest real life review. Can't go too wrong for the money, it's buit to a price point for a particular market. As you mentioned, Arrma have already got many many mid to top end trucks as it is anyway. Cheers for all the content 👍
I absolutely die 💀😂🤣😆 every time that ALLEN clip shows up in your video.
Alan… Alan… Alan… haha
Tomley what's the best basher?? something that can really take a beating and not break all the time like my HPI Savage XS
Rival MT10 👍
@@TomleyRC How is the MT8? if I was to 1/8 scale.
Definitely on the wish list nice review 👊
Nicely done all around review. Couldn't agree more about the bodies, but a quick Gorilla tape job seems to have sorted it out. Fun little all around basher, especially based on the cost. I too bought two, one for bashing and one for speed runs. Couldn't be happier
Dude! You should go out in the rain more often! That dirt track is great I'm jealous, Great video 👍
Definitely wouldn't buy a gorgon though lol😂
Another great video bro always look forward to them🙂👊
Damn man the colour changes of the truck though the vid look amazing 👌👌
Glad to see that gorgonops is getting some attention. (The animal)
Whats the maximum 3s battery that could fit?
