The chingaderis below the front facia is called a lower valance buddy. I'm actually really impressed with the way this thing behaves. It doesn't sound like a dog eating tortilla chips every time it lands or goes over some gravel. The suspension geometry seems to be squared away, as well as the coilovers seem to have the correct valving and oil viscosity which we all know is extremely rare in "budget" r/c cars. I'd say this one's a win 100%. Gonna buy one when I get home. I'll order everything I need to run 4s as well because, well like you said we NEED 50mph on 3 inch long grass. When in doubt, throttle out.
I think the most interesting thing about that truck is the chassis layout. There is so much room for activities as far as upgrading electronics. I don’t know why Traxxas can’t figure that out. You have to shoe horn in everything into those chassis’s. I see a nice Max 8 G2 and the 4S motor just slipping right in there.
A couple pinions to adjust the gearing are a lot less than a battery. You really do a solid review on these more budget vehicles, pointing out the good and the bad. Also really good cinematography to go with it.
my favorite budget truck was the DHK Hunter back when Hobby People was alive and well. Same platform as the Turnigy Trooper and we all know how legendary that truck is.
It would be really interesting to see a long term test on one of these. We know the Arrma Senton is a very durable car. Just because this is cheaper, does not mean it is better value.
I had this truck/buggy under it's prior brand name - Helion Dominus. Great value overall. Trade offs are: the arms are more brittle and break at the hinge pins The drive shafts are dog bones all around and they bend and pop out The turning circle is poor, probably because of the axles not being CVDs Suspension is too stiff, needs softer springs and very thin oil, I had to use 15 weight.
There may have been some changes like this comes with CVD's on the front and suspension setup looks very good. I'm not sure if they are the same shocks as the Rokatan has smaller shocks which bounce a lot like you say
Hello friend Great video as always been waiting for you to bring a video out on this new offering from ftx as I'm new back into the hobby I must admit I do like the ftx range as I have the zorro nitro version and the dr8 and that's a beast. I do like that you get everything in the box ready to go apart from charge. My question is would a higher mwah 3s lipo with higher c rating make this any faster maybe another video for you to look into. This could be on my radar as one to buy. Peter from Birmingham
1:54 it’s an air dam/valence, they are used to reduce drag on real trophy truck and off-road vehicles that have a sort of truck look to them and in Prerunner builds too when they chop most of the front bumper off for clearance with an off-road bumper
The shutdown is a safety cutoff that Hobbywing seems to do. If you try 3 times to set off and it doesn't see the motor turn it simply shuts down til you cycle the power. I have a Max10 SCT and it does the same thing if grass is really long. Its less noticeable with smaller pinion as it can get going easier.
agreed. I'm assuming metal diff gears but it'd be nice to know for sure. Does anybody at this point still do plastic? I've had an FTX before. I liked it. Only downfall here in the states is if I brake something, I have to wait 2-3 weeks before I get a replacement part. But if you're not in a hurry, they're a good value. Side note: It looks like the motor mount on this one is plastic. That's a bit of a bummer.
I do love my senton though. I think I can get the brushed senton to 35 with a 3s high C. These do look super cool! I would like to see more FTX like the 28th scale or the rally hoon. They look like the wl toys but 40 bucks.
11:30. I love rebrands for part support since they all fit largely. You mentioned it's a platform other manufacturers use. Can you or does anybody know what those make & models are? Thx.
Got mine on order, getting back into the hobby after a few years. Had a few different r/c's but wanted something cheap to run about with. Looks a good decision.
awesome review, am looking at Sentons... but this is now a contender. Plus I like FTX for being the underdog that's becoming a big dog. Thanks for the upload 👍🍺🇬🇧
How can you go wrong for rc fun. My son just bought one he loves it but he did break front a arm second jump. ! No fault of the car. Super hard landing on one front tire.

Good truck. One of the reasons I have a Slash is that I bought it 2nd hand. I happened to have the gear sitting around to get it going. Atm though, even 2nd hand prices are stupid high.
If it hasn’t already been said, this looks to be the same truck as the Helion dominus v2. I bought the helion for my son and think it’s a very clean truck.
seems like it'd be a good platform for the IROC errr IROYT (international race of you tubers) do a real trophy truck course, on/off road with some wet and dry....that'd be a hoot to watch.
Got mine coming in orange as well, looks great. I wish that FTX sold these as a bare chassis without all the brushless gear, battery and charger for a cut rate so you could install your own brushless system. I have a Rokatan, Ramraider and Apache (pre ordered) i really don't have need of the same underspecced, hot running, over geared brushless system three times over. The Ram raider is useless for a good second after pulling the trigger and won't run on long grass. Needs a potent brushless system upgrade.
@@TomleyRC you seem to have good sway with them Phil, any chance of having a quiet word about getting a roller versions of the Rokatan/Ramraider chassis specs like a few of the other brands are doing these days? Problem is having to pay the extra for the stock system in the first place removes the 'budget' appeal of the trucks as replacing it puts you at the Arrma price point.

At the time of watching this to decide which truck to get without breaking the bank. I looked it up because you said it was even cheaper the. The arma, which it is not. But it does come with a battery so those two are very close to each other. But being like a $20 difference why not just get the arrma? I do like the body and light bar on the Apache tho
I have a senton, because I’m not a traxxas fan at all based on personal experiences with 2 of their products, they don’t get a 3rd chance. But I’d probably have bought this over it for the price point, and because I prefer the colour (orange). But ultimately because I had to buy a (decent) charger and lipo(s) and that added over £150. That all said, I do enjoy the Senton, 50mph on a freshly mowed meadow is easy to achieve, and the few breakages are easy to get replaced. I’m also surprised that I don’t have a single FTX in my collection, but I am sure that will change. Oh and pillow ball hubs is definitely a great idea, should be able to reduce the slop the Senton is famous for.

When are you doing an upgrade video. Cant wait to see that as own one now after watching this in action. Please provide links for parts when you do. Keep up the great work.
Big difference between "cheap" and "inexpensive". This unit looks "inexpensive". If you had run it and it had smashed itself to pieces it would be "cheap".
Question is : is the car steong enough? are spare parts easily available ? If you cant run your car after a small crash or if you have to wait a month, its a waste of money.
I don't take a strictly dollar-for-kilo approach to spending on most things that I plan to enjoy using. I more take that approach to toilet paper and whatnot. I'm really curious to see how it directly compares to a Senton and Slash. The question for me is "do I give up too much fun, scale driving feel, or part support for the lower price?"
Good price, not bad car but I think the brushless Zorro is better and on Modelsport the Zorro is £10 cheaper. Love my Zorro, it's faster and more powerful ESC, 80amp! Got the Zorro due to your review Phil, all smiles. Love my Senton but its a different beast 👍👍
No heatsink on the motor? Even my WLToys & MJX Hyper Gos come with a fan & heatsink for the motor. Seems like an easy upgrade that would resolve the thermal issues.
Not Hobbywing based though. The chassis is also quite a bit newer than the Zorro/Carnage and Vantage platform. This body definitely kills it over all the Zorro's
Went back and had a look at the Lokatan as I missed it before and I’m very taken by it! They have obviously worked out an excellent platform and pretty damn cheep . Question is could I sneak another car in without my wife finding out! 😂😂
Hello Phil, I'm looking for a nice brushless 2WD short course. I'm looking at the HPI jumpshot sc flux, Team Associated Pro2 SC10 and Arrma Senton 4x2 (w/ brushless upgrade later on). Which one do you recommend? I valor handling and durability (and low maintenance cost). If you have any other recommendation, let me know :) Thanks and cheers from Portugal.

I will if you do lol

Hello Phil, I'm looking for a nice brushless 2WD short course. I'm looking at the HPI jumpshot sc flux, Team Associated Pro2 SC10 and Arrma Senton 4x2 (w/ brushless upgrade later on). Which one do you recommend? I valor handling and durability (and low maintenance cost). If you have any other recommendation, let me know :) Thanks and cheers from Portugal.

Dear Phil this is not a Trophy Truck! This is a buggy with a body TT inspired 😊 . A Trophy Truck has IFS RSA
Long term, how easy is it to go to the local shop and buy repair parts. I can build a Slash from spare parts any day....
The only problem with this truck, is that the FTX Zorro Brushless exists, and that has a centre diff ❤❤❤
Wow, straight snatching the trencher mold on those tires
