    A very smart conversion - the only problem I see is the very small olive oil tank. On the other hand: it should not be a problem once you have reached the mediterranian shores. I must say I would be worried about the headroom in the main salon.
    Well I'm 1.92m and used to boats with less than that, but I would still like a main place where I can stand still, especially the galley.
    Have you considered lowering the floors in the galley ?

    • @SailingNV
      @SailingNV  3 месяца назад +1

      You'd be able to stand up in the centre of the saloon, the mast cabin and the toilet, so not too bad, and most of the time we spend outside anyway. Luckily for us we're both shorter, but the previous owners were probably both around 2m and they managed OK. The floorboards are pretty much on the bilge, so not much space to lower them

    what inspiring content!
    great job with the interior reconstruction...that was a lot of work. i love the way you incorporated the surfboards into the bathroom...that tub is so cool! all of your customization seems so thoughtful, and functional.
    i'm subscribed, and excited to follow your adventure.
    do you have experience with these boats? i do not, but my concern is with the absence of water ballast...isn't that vital to the boat's performance? without water ballast, or large crew to act as ballast, what effect does that have on her ability to stand up to good wind?
    i think it's a great looking boat, and must be so fun to sail. i have been cruising on small classic boats all my life, and i have always marveled at the speed those boats can attain, and sustain in heavy southern ocean conditions.
    perhaps the questions i have asked are answered in your previous episodes...i will look forward to catching up to the dream!
    best wishes.

    I remember I watched your video several years ago how you dragged this boat into a shipyard and had to tilt it so the keel could pass. 🙂I see the end result and honestly, I don't understand why. I will never judge, but I DO wonder, wouldn't it be easier (and I suspect cheaper) to buy a cruising boat, even in a bad shape, and refurbish it? You'd have proper toilets, proper galley., DOORS.
    I suspect it IS crazy fast... if you can afford the sails which I suppose this boat chews through like a puppy. 🙂I clearly remember my awe at this project, and I REALLY wanted to see the end result. Now I have. THIS looks like someone bought a Ferrari Testarossa and is trying to adapt it to delivering furniture. Need for speed? At any cost? 🙂 Hope you'll find time to reply.

    • @SailingNV
      @SailingNV  4 месяца назад +1

      Heyhey thanks for your message... hahaha I like your comment ;) I guess everyone has their own ideas about what they want and a standard of comfort they're happy with... for us we'd both had standard production boats in the past and were looking for something different. We wanted something sporty and extra fun to sail. The galley and heads are perfectly good enough for our needs, and the same size as on many other boats. We might adapt the space further for doors in the future, but I guess for us, surfing down waves at 20knots is worth the lack of doors. There are also other aspects to living on a boat like this that we love, for example having such a giant cockpit where we spend most of our time, has made a big different for life afloat for Solo and Nemo, it's like having a backyard :)

    • @SailingNV
      @SailingNV  4 месяца назад

      Heyhey thanks for your comment, so the answer to the first 2 questions is a great big yes and the main reasons for our choice. The speed also means you can access more parts of the world more quickly and can also potentially out run nasty weather systems, adding a layer of safety. Unless and its a huge caveat, you were able to buy the boat for practically nothing and the only equity you put in was sweat. In which case. Well done on being able to convert a pure racer into something that meets your needs. It ain't pretty. But if it works well enough, its an achievement. I haven't watched the channel for a long time. Mainly because your murdering of the English language was impeneterable and make me want to pierce my own ear drums. I admit I paused a bit at the mention of FOUR HUNDRED LITERS of olive oil! I think we use maybe 4 to 8 liters of olive oil per year. So that would be about a lifetime supply for us. BTW, I just read that olive oil prices are going up a lot because of climate change.

      Hahaha yeah Timo is an olive oil fiend, I think we get through 1-2litres/week (tho this is with usually a crew of 6 or so of us aboard). He uses a lot in the Focaccia he makes… and everything else really 🤣
