I have been following your travels on RUclips. I am a sailor and a father. Ten years ago my wife and I had a similar experience with our IVF second child. I am happy to say, she not only made it, but at 9, she is a women's open national gymnastics champion. She is preparing for the World Championships next year. She made it through so much and it has made her the strongest person I know. I know your son will grow big and strong because of and in spite of all he has lived through. Boats are nice. Travels and adventures are nice, but this adventure will change your life. All the best, and thank you for sharing.
That was wonderful Dom. Our first son was born totally unexpectedly at six months through. He too had collapsing lungs and other issues to navigate. Thankfully we all came through as a family and he has gone on to succeed academically and work wise. Interestingly, at the time we had taken time off work to build our own wee Grand Design in the New Zealand bush. We were living in a garage and were completely unprepared for this event. You’re right, at the end of the day there was, only one priority for the challenging three months that followed. Go you guys!
So glad everything has worked out well for Carly and Hudson, don't be afraid to show your emotions, it was a very difficult time for you all, Hank will soon be Hudson's best friend, he's not sure yet, which is understandable, enjoy your time together, the channel can wait, we all understand, stay safe and give Carly, Hudson and Hank plenty of love and cuddles
in 1919 my Grandparents gave birth to a very premature little girl . They were warned not to become to attached as she was a " sickly " child . Well 96 years later the doctors predictions came true and she passed away . but in that very brief 96 years she grew up , raised a family of her owne and became my favourite aunt .
A doctor once said about my great-aunt (She was the oldest person in the world at one point): She has become this old not thanks to us doctors, but despite us.
As an 83 year old man and someone who found great pleasure in watching your adventures, I felt so sorry to here what happened. You are such nice people.
Not going to lie you broke two grown ass adults to tears in the first half of this video. Amazing to see a happy ending and wishing you the best to you guys. ❤
My heart goes out to you both after that story, but so glad, and relieved, it was a happy ending. I can't see anyone complaining if you need to get things off your chest, and need to take a walk in the woods. It's good to talk and you've got thousands of ears here willing to listen. Take care of yourself, Carly, Hank and your new arrival, and take the time to enjoy them.
No Way! I was a mess the longer you were telling the story all the way up until 20:15 when I finally got the hint that at least one of your precious family were ok. Not sure of your religious views, but i stopped the video and prayed for your family righ there. What a relief when you opened the door to see mom and baby sitting comfortable by the fire! I am sure you are all not completely out of the woods, but so thankful for the progress thus far.
Wow! Thank god you are all ok. Ok now I have to say something - I was very very premature 70 years ago. St Mary’s Hospital in Portsmouth had just taken delivery of some new fangled incubator things when I arrived so early my mum didn’t know she was even pregnant. Thanks to the amazing NHS, and parents as wonderful as I know you will be, I am here 70 years later and I am still fighting fit. In short so take it from me because I have lived it. Your little boy will be fine, you will all be fine. Thank you for the update I appreciate how difficult it was for you to tell.
I have never seen your channel in my life. This is the first I have ever seen your channel. Considering your story and finally seeing your beautiful wife and child together, alive and well, at the end. You are a lucky man. Blessed. I envy you. My child was still borne. I never had another. Many years later... My Wife passed away. I'm alone now Widowed. I envy you.
I a wizened ex traffic cop and you’ve just had me in bits. Having seen misery in the flesh so to speak, I am so glad this has turned out well for you. I wish you three all the best in the months and years to come.
We are delighted to see you altogether. You are very brave to share the story. Of course supporting each other had to be the only priority. Thanks to our wonderful NHS, overstretched and underfunded but still there when we need them. We will still be here when you are good and ready with no pressure.
An emotional roller coaster. You had me in tears when I saw Mum and son in that chair. I remember the birth of my kids, especially the first. Not straight forward but no where near as traumatic. The most intensely emotional experience of my life. You three have your priorities and we will be here when life calms down a little. Enjoy the baby, they grow so fast.
Just watched your vlog and so glad it was a happy ending. Hudson's lovely. Must have such an emotional time for you and Carly. Take care and love to you all. ❤
Hi, 31 years ago my wife and I went through the exactly same experience. Watching the video brought back all those memories of that tiny child of 800 grams and the things happening during those month. So our son is about your age and doing well. And you know now what this means. It means everything. Congratulations!
Damn Dom, I'm a man in his mid 40's now sitting in my ⛵️ crying. I've got my three sons here with me and couldn't help but mentally put myself in your spot. What a heart breaking beginning to an absolutely beautiful beginning! You four will do great!
Just astonishing. We had an early 1.2kg baby, nowhere near what you experienced, but he's now a fine 31 yr old. I wish all 3 of you the very best (and yes, we naturally took him on the boat when he was 7 or 8 months old...)
All the best to you three. Nobody cares about what happens to the boat, as long as all of you are fine! Congrats to the young man for fighting through!
What an emotional roller coaster for you both, and I am so pleased that it has all turned out well. Congratulations to you all and as many comments before me have said, family comes first, always. Look forward to seeing you all in the SW at some point whenever in the future,
Oh guys! This was the thing that got me falling tears. Last time was when my firstborn saw the day. I am so glad all 3 of you are sitting there with eachother. It just got me very emotional. My heavy metal heart just vent fluffy :) Thanks for sharing! Lots of good vibes to your little family from Norway :)
When you first started speaking, I was thinking the worst and it was such a relief to see that shot with Carly and the baby. I'm so happy and thankful to see that everyone is okay. I believe that congratulations are in order. What's the baby's name?
Amazing to see you all happy and healthy at the end, the story really really got to us and hope you are All Doing well, Dom I would have been a wreck in your position you held up amazingly by the sounds of it, well done sir! Take your time, we will all be here when you return! 🎉
Congratulations to you all. It was a tear jerker of a tale. Went through similar 23 years ago but different result. I almost turned off as I was in tears. The boat and sailing can wait, just build his strength and that of your wife and yourself. Ye are in my thoughts
You had me going there for a wile. i can say am so happy for you, while i am in the process off tearing up. i am a dad, i know what you go throu. enjoy, an rejoice!!!! well done the tree of you
WOW, I wasn't entirely sure where that was going and I'm so glad it turned out well! Congratulations you so deserve all the happiness and I can't imagine how that must've been having a 5 month old ourselves, I thought ours was a traumatic birth but not even close
Thanks for sharing this emotional roller coaster ride with us, the same thing happened to my daughter when she was born, she's now 25 and I have a grandson, slowly the event eases over time although the emotions of that time are always remembered.... stay strong, there's no harm in showing emotions, that's how we are made...enjoy every moment together, God bless you are in my prayers, we will wait for the next vlog when you are ready however long that needs to be, lovely to see you all together as a family, fair winds....
Thanks for sharing. Wishing you pair and your new child all the best health and happy memories coming your way. Raw real heart felt and touching. Much love x
My god, thank goodness all has worked out. Thanks for sharing. I went through something similar 10 years ago. All I would suggest is that you Dom get a chance to talk with someone one to one. Often the closest people don’t get any support after the events and it is really tough, expecting the worst. Keep your spirits high all of you. All the best and take care of each other ❤
I normally watch your videos for their superb sailing content. This was on another altogether more human level. I was close to tears watching and so relieved at the end. Congratulations to you, to Carly and to your baby son. Well done. Hank will just have to sort out the new reality. Congratulations.
An extraordinary period for you both. Difficult doesn’t begin to describe it. Strength of character shines through and testament to you both and the good and very remarkable and skilled people caring for both Carly and Hudson. A moving and empowering recount Dom. best wishes. P
Carly looks so beautiful. Nice to hear Hudson's voice - looks like he's inherited his Dad's hair - at 21:07! Sending you all the best from Ireland. There is another 'boat' channel, 'Sailing Soulianis' where there was a baby scare too, but that all ended up just fine. You are new people now, all three of you. You will be the best for each other.
This video has shown everyone who follow you both that sharing your true feelings is so difficult and a pure sign of bravery. Congratulations on the start of your new family adventures
You sir should be so proud, you both have been incredibly strong and if this is anything to go by you will both be incredible parents, I'm so glad you all are doing ok, love and prayers to you all ❤️
What an amazing story and so beautifully told. I am thrilled for you all that it has all turned out ok. I know from experience that Hank will learn to love his ‘brother’ and that they will be inseparable in due course xx
Thank you for sharing this! You don’t know who you could help by this story of your family! He is beautiful and mum looking as radiant as ever! Know that you are all loved! God Bless you all!
Good job guys 👍, I was getting quite upset during your post, nothing breaks my heart like little ones ill, you feel so helpless. I’m so pleased you’re all doing well xx
On December 31, 2000, my wife, seven months pregnant, went into preterm labor, and gave birth four days later. Our son wasn't quite as premature as yours, but was 8 weeks early. He spent 23 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care. My wife had a placental abruption, and lost a lot of blood as well. Last December, he graduated college, and starts his career as a teacher in August. I'm so, so glad this has had this end of the beginning! My prayers and best wishes for a long and healthy life for both your wife and your son. I pray you can be as blessed as I have been!
Thanks so much for the touching update. As a retired paramedic I've witnessed everything you described, and felt deeply for you through it all. So glad to watch the denouement at the end, with all well and good! Look after yourselves; that's the most important thing. Take care!
What an emotional time it's been for you all, Carly and Dominic! My heart goes out to you! ♥️ How wonderful to hear and see that Carly and your precious bambino are going from strength to strength! 🙏♥️ Thank you for sharing. Go well! xxx🌻
... my own mind went immediately to dark places as you related your story ... my joy and elation were boundless when you opened the door and saw your wife and son sitting there ... thank you for sharing ... much love, many hugs and lottsa prayers ... please give your little one a kiss on the head for me if you would ...
Oh my word I cannot believe everything that has happened since we bumped into you on the Yealm last year. Honestly in awe of what you two have been through and come out the other side, you are both going to amazing parents and that is going to be one lucky baby coming on all your adventures ❤
Wow what a tale. Very well delivered and heartfelt - thanx for sharing such a personal story. I did think you were going to end on terrible news but thank goodness it was all great🎉. Keep well all of you . Carly you look radiant as a mum 👏👏👏👏
My heart ached when I imagined the range of possible results that could have been, the natural fear I felt as a father myself was almost overwhelming. When you finally moved ahead in the video to the presence of Carley with your baby boy, the smile she had was all I needed to know everything was as it needed to be as it had to be for this family. Thanks for sharing.
Sorry for your traumatic experience and thanks be to god all has worked out well. My congratulations on the way that you told the story which was not easy for you. Best of luck going forward and congratulations that all has worked out in the end. ☘️☘️
I'm So sorry you had to go though such an emotional rollercoaster. But I'm glad to see it all came to a happy end. I look forward to your next video.... all the best
Love to you all. Just talking about it helps with that trauma. Don't underestimate how, when things settle down, the stress of it all can catch up with you. Be kind to yourselves. ❤
Omg what a brutally honest vid. Wont lie, did bring a tear to my eye more than once. Puts a lot of things into perspective really. Thanks for sharing, I'm pretty sure many wouldn't have gone as far as you did but I'm glad you did. Take care of the family, they are number 1 always. The rest can wait. Cheers 🤘👊💪
Hi guys, I am so sorry that I have never seen your channel, but I I decided to click on and listened to this episode, brother, I feel for you both , I am a grandfather of 8 grandchildren. My eldest daughter, Robyn, was borne at 7 weeks premature, she had Downsyndry’. This is almost 5 years later and she is the best gift our family could ever be privalived we have ever received. My point to telling you both this is there are, sometimes in life we experience these trials, sometimes there is a reason for this but look at what you both have now, best of luck and happiness for the future 👍👍❤️❤️
We all love the boat and especially your channel, but we love the family more! We are so grateful things have progressed for the better and that your loving hearts have rated this blessing. Take all the time you need and we, of course, will welcome all of you back with open arms. We noticed how much time Carly spent with Hank and he misses that attention, but with understanding. Dogs are more aware than we realize. Dom, you will just have to fill in for her and give Hank all the personal attention he misses. We should get a lottery going on who can guess the month & year that Hudson starts walking!
The Love a Father has for his child is Unconditional, and no matter what! You will do anything to Love and protect them and their Mother which you have done I had a similar episode with my daughter who is going to be 28 yrs old this year. I feel for you 3 and I am so glad things are improving and you were right to be away for the channel and keep it Private as it is All our love to you all
I can honestly feel for you with this, as i had similar with two of my children. I also have to say, never be ashamed to shed a tear, i shed buckets with mine, i also have to admit to shedding one after watching this. Anyway, congratulations on the birth of Hudson, glad to see Mum and baby doing well.

Wow, what a story.
Very nice to hear everything is good with your family. Enjoy the new born. 🍀
Such a beautiful baby, congratulations and love to you all!
The Love a Father has for his child is Unconditional, and no matter what! You will do anything to Love and protect them and their Mother which you have done I had a similar episode with my daughter who is going to be 28 yrs old this year. I feel for you 3 and I am so glad things are improving and you were right to be away for the channel and keep it Private as it is All our love to you all
Glad you are back and all is well. Hank will soon bond with his new brother and they will be inseparable. Thanks for sharing.
So happy things turned out all good in the end❤ Much love from the coast of Maine 🤙 ❤️
So honest and clear. All the very best to you three.
